My dad did the soundtrack for this film (Regis Mull). He continued to get random checks through the years when this would air in obscure locations. Still pretty cool and trips me out to hear my Dad's voice from way back when, he sounds so...young! 20 years younger than me now in fact.

What a sad movie. It's not really a horror movie. It is about the need for normalcy in child's life. I grew up without a father and always wanted to have one, always felt envious of other boys because they had fathers. I felt really deprived growing up with a single mother. I can understand the kids and Peter in this movie.

I am sorry to hear that. I understand it isn’t fair. I hope you are able to learn to find happiness despite not having a father in your life. Maybe you could consider volunteering as a “big brother” to a kid who has no father. You would have so much insight into what the child feels. Your life experience could be much more helpful than that of many others. I wish you the best.

@@jeffreyzain Robby Benson was kind of the Ashton Kutcher of the early to mid-seventies, but he wasn't as buffoonish as Kutcher. He wasn't saddled with a stupid phrase of the era, like 'groovy, man' the way Kutcher has "dude." A song from the late sixties, Ode to Billy Joe, was about a young girl whose boyfriend jumped off a bridge. The song was vague and mysterious as to why he did. In the mid-seventies, it was made into a movie that deduced Billy Joe jumped because he was sexually confused over a homosexual encounter (with Roscoe P. Coltrane from the Dukes of Hazard, no less!) , with Benson as Billy Joe. Unimpressive movie, but of course, anybody who was young and sexually questioning back then found it a wonderful film. He was also in Ice Castles, another 'song' movie and I think by then he was losing steam, about the same way Kutcher did after attempts to be a serious performer. My sisters liked him. He just always reminded me of Greg Brady. First time I ever heard of him was in the tv movie Death of Richie, and Benson was going all out performing in that thing.

He’s actually perfect to be their father, right amount of authority, yet a kind man, and they respect him. Kind of wish he had stayed on with them kids who just want parents.

One of the best made-for-TV movies ever. It was thoughtful and well structured, with a few good moments of suspense. But in the real world, once they got out of the children's sight, Mr. Wheeler would have beaten Peter within an inch of his life!

ABC Movie of the Week ...November 12, 1974....The songs in the movie are sung by Robbie Benson but not written by him. We really had good T.V. back then unlike now.

What an incredible storyline! I wonder how long the lady was in the house? In real life, those kids would be split up in different homes and may lose contact sadly.

I love this channel because you always have films I've never heard of before. Reall y great film wkth excellent leads as played played by Stacy Keach and Samantha Eggar. All children's roles were well played too. Great storyline with unexpected outcome.

Stacey Keach caught between Mommy Milfton and July Jailbait (don't worry, snowflakes, Arlene Farber already was in her late 20's when the movie was filmed). Looks like fun. ;) Thanks a lot for the upload in decent quality. This movie deserves it. Greetings from Europe!
