so why does horse racing exist? they abuse the horses their entire lives.

An e-collar on a dog, when used properly, is set to the minimum value (working setting) that the dog shows ANY reaction to. The reaction might be as small as an ear twitch, it is not meant to be painful. My experience is that I have never been able to feel the working setting for normal training. This has two potential meanings. First, if dogs:humans:horses are similar, and humans get a real POP then the horse is REALLY getting jolted. Second, horses may be really different humans and dogs and maybe that jolt doesn’t ‘hurt’ the animal. I’m just guessing but the use of that device is probably a felony due to it being a race, not animal cruelty issues.

Horses dogs and humans are a liiiiittle different. And if you need an e collar for your dog you should learn basic ways to train your dog and stop bring lazy. Worst expert witness ever.

The jockeys wear pointy metal objects on their feet called spurs that are used to kick the horse in the ribs and make it go faster. Hurting the animal is part of the game. The reason the shocking device is illegal is because it is cheating and has the potential to interfere with gambling.

A few comments that horse tracks are abusing horses, one guy said they are "killing them en masse'. The owners goal is to win fairly and some to "win at any cost" so aside from illegal doping why would they neglect the horse? Fail to give it the best legal food, nutrition, supplements, dental care, shelter, etc. Anti-doping laws are in place so catch the cheaters and at least it's a semi clean sport. No sport is 100% clean.

@@seann.7630unfortunately these devices were very common only a few years ago. They could be really hard to detect until they started cracking down on stuff like this. You wouldn’t believe the stuff people will do to get their horses to the winning circle. Drugging horses was a huge problem as well, now they literally have to drug test the horses . It’s horrid. And all the horses want to do is run because of their breeding.

People use shock collar on dogs and invisible fences. I don’t really see a difference. I’m not saying it’s right but a horse would need a big shock to feel it so it’s not surprising that it’s strong.

No owning horses for the owner is coming....the problem is he will put the horses in someone else's name..trainer do the same thing..controlling certain races happen everyday..not all races are fixed...but there are few everyday that are CONTROLLED..short prices at the window in certain races will tell you this but very hard to prove...that's why it's done

I think it also can turn a horse into a flipper in it's later races, by negative association, like the horse mentioned in the beginning of the video. So yeah, unnecessary risk to others.

It's usually a last ditch effort on the horse's part as its very dangerous for them, it exposes the throat to predators and could cause concussion, spinal injury or a broken tail. The first time a horse does it, it's either a miscalculated rear or an overstimulated state, but then, if it isn't hurt, it finds itself relieved of danger and much like the other moves listed, can become a patterned behavior. It's such a problem in QH racing that many horses wear a device in the starting gate to prevent it, somewhat successfully. QHs are sent into races very ''hot'', it doesn't take much for one to become overstimulated minutes prior to the race. It's my opinion, as someone who has ponied QHs and TBs to the starting gate for many years, that the fear of negative stimuli (including but not limited to electric shock) contribute to both general anxiety and the state of hyperstimulation that result in extreme behaviors. Look at the video on my channel. He looks like a very reasonable horse, doesn't he? He's actually the only running QH, that I'm aware of, to ever buck in a race and still legally finish. He was ridden that day by a rumored dirty rider. He turned into a horse that would chronically flip in the starting gate after that and a few races after, got trapped underneath the gate, injuring his right hind and left front legs, ending his career. But he ponied races and does all the other domesticated horse things as can the rest of them if when they're not terrified and angry.

True. But in order to look at the animal cruelty, we need to separate ourselves from the gambling aspect IMO. A new law standardizing medication and safety protocols was just passed. Anti doping testing was already in place. It's not a 100% clean sport. No sport is. I can understand both sides of the argument. 1.) Abolish racing because the dogs that can't race anymore are of no use to the owner. If a rescue org can't adopt out a lame dog then they get euthanized. Here's the better solution 2.) Don't abolish racing in Taxachussets. Come up with a solution to the profitable business. Force the owners to come up with the dough to establish "no kill shelters". They can raise the goddam ticket prices, concession prices, etc do something so the dogs can be adopted out. There are zero benefits to horse racing for horses. It is purely a “sport” done for the entertainment of humans. Drugging the horses is also common practice. Slaughtering them after racing is how they thank them. When a racehorse has had its body used up, it is very common practice for them to be sent to slaughter. They aren’t usually sent to graze in pastures for the rest of their life like we may be led to believe. That's the reality of horse racing. 😡😡😡
