While not ever detected in Australia, horse owners, particularly in northern Australia, should be aware of the signs and symptoms of African horse sickness and its 𝟵𝟱% 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 in horses.
Be on the lookout for redness of the eyes, swelling of the face, eyelids, brisket and front half of the horse, difficulty breathing, with or without frothy discharge from the nostrils and rapid deterioration.

African Horse Sickness is spread by biting midges and has spread through south-east Asian countries in recent years.
