One of the reasons why vsu's sousaphones/tubas are so good is because they are not afraid to push the limit of what most directors "think" they can do. As a trumpet player i think a sousaphone can do anything a trumpet, trombone or frech horn can do. (except hit very high notes) Most compositions only call for a sousaphone to play simple bass lines so they are easily underrated.
besides the solos, that one cord at 2:51 was my fav. because as being a past tuba section leader (CLARK ATLANTA UNIVERSITY 2003-2007 BASS ROCK!!) i know how hard it is for everyone to balance their note! that one note made a huge difference. and for everyone watching on youtube, its much crazier in person!! standing face to face with them in the tunnel at honda battle of the bands was one of the best experiences of my life!!
From one arranger to the next...that arrangement is OUT COLD!!!! Supa creative and all ur ideas where CLEAR and EFFECTIVE!!! Horsepower where ever u r.....A BEAST is amongst u!
My daughter watches the wonder pets, and yes, I can hear "the phone is ringing" in there. Then they playing "like a lollipop" what?!!!! OMG!!!! They sound more like a trombone section than a tuba section. So clear and clean..... wow. I'm a believer
This is great footage that you're putting up of the T.B.I. and Horsepower exhibition. The more I see them, the more respect I gain for Horsepower. Good Job Horsepower!! Good Job Thunder Brothers!! "Taz" F'96 Thunder Brothers Inc. SCSU Marching "101" Band
it was in warren county NC, its the warren county btob and drumline competition. they have on in the fall and this was the one they had in spring in this video here
This was the all star group, not the regular squad. People always wondered how or if the group would sound good with larger numbers so we just gave the people a treat. Majority of the folks that we added were folks that are playing other instruments in the band or seniors about to graduate that didn't march that year with a hand full of recent grads. Funny thing about it, about 5 of the top guys didn't even play. LOL.
Yall just stop all this damn madness!!!!!! Best tuba section ever!!! I cant even go to sleep cuz I keep finding another damn video!!! Gone Horsepower!!!! SU fall 96... oh yeah, I seen what yall did to Bama state @ the honda classic in the tunnel!! I'm a Bama native and they got murked that day LMFAO
look you tube!.....lol! I got one question for you....what song does VSU BAND play that the tibas stick out on? don't worry i'll wait....I know you can name all kinds of fanfares...but nothing other than that!
Nice job guys. Now southern can shut the hell up talking about power. you guys have power and balance. I also love the technique. Great job I live in Northern VA now maybe I may can see you guys in person one day. Yall section is definately up there with the best.
VSU stay puttin it down!! I would love to battle them, but some fanfares too way to compete with, lol.. I just thinking like... "Is it over yet?" lol.. Horsepower... I.B.L. and yall need to colab again, i think that would be SICK!!!!!
Hey, I'm trying to audition for the snare line of VSU, and I heard you were the man to talk to. I'm a sophmore in high school and I just want to know how can I tryout.
True. Until the rest of the band gets their numbers up, we probably be held back like this because a lot of our folks play other instruments to balance out the sound of the band. Sometimes it is not always the strongest players that make the cut.
Yeah... They dont come out in their arrangements. I know that. Otherwise it would be horse power and ther occasionally audible band as accompanyment. But they don't need to play out as much with the band. It sounds crisp when they play with them, and I like that.
Well if you are looking into transferring, this is the place to be and we welcome you to V-State. If interested, hit me up and I can get you in contact with the right people.
Have yall noticed at 2:46 wen tha two tuba players that are playing the solos they lean back and it looks like the tubas are laughn wen they hit them notes
CDUBB2013 said his favorite section besides jsu & FAMU. If you look at bama st. tuba clips famu section leaders asu silver bullets. VSU the truth too. OBVIOUSLY THE TWO BEST TUBA SECTIONS IN HBCU ARE HORSE POWER & SILVER BULLETS
