That aerial view is fantastic. Virtual Railfan has a close-up live-feed installed there; it faces the mountain from across that small park with the seating area. You barely get an impression of the track's curvature, but those freight trains are really long! Dozens of them come through daily.
Over 70 years ago, I lived with my parents just over the mountain from this curve. Back then, you could stroll over the tracks and up the mountain. I imagine that has been halted due to some exercise of common sense.
I was on a prison outside work crew that went to Horseshoe Curve to clean the weeds and shrubbery on the mountain so visitors had a clear view of the trains.
that's the only way to see it , mt parents us to see in when I was a grade school kids we climbed stair till my butt fell off and all you could see at the top was RR tracks WTH the curve is that large from the ground you don't get it
