The Civil War in the U.S. could not have been fought without the contributions and sacrifices made by hundreds of thousands of horses. It was the horse who carried men into battle, carried supplies, pulled wagons to support troops of the North and South. This is a fascinating historical documentary on the retreat from Gettysburg, one of the major battles of the Civil War. And watch our other episode "Unsung Hero - The Horse in the Civil War" for a fascinating look at the role of horses in the Civil War.

I really appreciate your videos Kent. They are appreciated not only for the information but the wonderful research done before a video is made. Respect to both the descendants and audience is very important. I watch a good deal of videos on every subject only hearing every view can lead to discovery of truth. To hear some guides and presenters parroting the same old presumptions is tiring and almost a waste of time to the audience. I appreciate Kent's videos and can easily see the respect and results from research and reflection that does better at shining a light leading to Truth. Kents approach in another of his reacessment of Meades leadership at Gettysburg was very insightful and much appreciated. I still have a good bit more of this video to watch. If my fellow audience doesn't mind my opinion. Videos like this that seeks to honestly inform are much better than the harping of some other videos. The best way to honor the sacrifice of our ancestors is to watch many videos and treasure those presentations with honor and respect for all.

Lee was beaten by Gordon Meade. That is shocking since Lee is reputed to be the the best general ever. And to think, Lee would ultimately surrender his whole army to Grant. Shocking!! indeed!!! The Lee myth is a lie .

I suppose if we ignore the many successes Lee achieved with an army that almost always lacked supplies of all kinds, an army that was almost always outnumbered, an army that almost always suffered from a shortage of man power, and the many other problems that Lee had to deal with to keep the army together and winning victory after victory. And instead just concentrate on Lee’s few failures often brought on by the previously mentioned disadvantages. Then yes we can say that “Lee myth” is just that. A myth. But again we would have to ignore 90 percent of Lee’s time as the overall commander of confederate forces, to actually make your comment seem like something other than the ignorance it clearly is

Well, we should not worship people from history period. Lee was a great commander, cared for his men, and tried to be a great strategist, just like everyone else. It’s not that Lee was never a good commander, but that the circumstances just outweighed him. Look at what happened to Napoleon. All of these ‘great’ commanders ended up losing battles or their wars. Plus, there are hardly any geniuses who completely think up something new. You could say Napoleon made the Corps system, but that’s kind of it. The concept of offensive was Lee’s big thing, he believed that when outnumbered, you have to end it soon or else there is no hope. When Lee fought Grant in the Overland campaign, his army never broke and gave up the field. Grant was usually the first to disengage from the field, but he ended up winning the campaign. Why? Because the circumstances were more favorable to him. Having nearly 50,000 more men definitely helps. Again not that Grant was not a great commander, but you have to take these factors into account.

Lee did the best he could with what he had to work with. It would be comparable to the US fighting some random Latin American country in regards to the difference in resources. The South was never going to win this war, the only chance they had was the North giving up, and that was never going to happen. They could've destroyed the entire Northern army at Gettysburg and they would've replaced it within a month or less. Even if England or France tried to intervene on the South's behalf, it wouldn't have made a huge difference in the outcome, except extending the war a year or two longer. The war should've never happened, and how our founding fathers didn't forsee this was going to happen is a travesty.

Yes it is. Robert E. Lee suffered a massive heart attack around June 28th, 1863, going out of Maryland into Pennsylvania. Lee, being the Person that he was... Lee stopped the War. "To stop the Killing!" Lee knew where the Southern Wealth was that Abraham Lincoln and his New Republican Representatives were after. The MAJORITY of the Southern Wealth was not in the USA, but was taken off Shore. And the Confederacy was funded from Montreal Canada.
