Miklós Horthy, as an ally of Adolf Hitler, is responsible for the tragedy that happened in the winter of 1942 in the Don-Kanyar, on the eastern battlefield. He is also responsible for participating in the deportation of 600,000 Hungarian Jews. At the end of the war, Horthy cowardly fled from prosecution, hiding somewhere in Central America until the end of his miserable life.
1. He helped Jews escape from poland your confusing him with szálasi. 2. He didn't flee he was forced to leave hungary by the nazis after forcefully deposed by the them. 3. Don-kanyar is a stupid thing to say, if we used your logic kossuth was also an evil genocidal maniac because of the disasterous battle of segevár.
@@kuruc3294 Basic fact: loving your country does not change history. Horthy pursued swing politics - just like Orbán is doing now - and the people suffered his political mistakes. Yes, at first he protected the Jews, then when Hitler himself demanded of him, he assisted in their deportation, sending 600 thousand(!) Jews to their deaths in a matter of months. The tragedy of the Don-Kanyar is still Horthy's responsibility, since, while national self-determination was behind the 1848 war of independence, with the support of almost the entire nation, the 1941-42 campaign only served the political goals of the right-wing regime in power. We can constantly perceive how the domestic political right is retroactively trying to beautify and falsify history. As long as I and my companions live, we will not let this happen.
@MrBraunX horthy definitely made some mistakes but he was still a good leader, he managed to get almost half of the pre trianon lands back peacefully. I'm not saying he was a Saint, he had his faults but still in general I think he was a positive force
@@kuruc3294 there is always a choice, but (as it is now), Hungary was on the wrong side of history. These wrong decisions always happen when our country has a nationalist, right-wing leadership.
