Fun thing to do with the flamers is bring a destoryer squad with double alchem flamer pistols and that unit can throw out some crazy wounds on a unit. Over the weekend I had a game where I was able to do 64 wounds to a bloob of tacticals. These guys are no joke
No idea if you can still get them, but for a cheap 'out of the beginner box' unit of Grave wardens, the old style cadian grenade launchers make for great conversions. clip the hand off it, and the bolter off the combi bolter hand, glue the grenade launcher underslung, looks pretty good IMHO!
Power scythes pair well with rad-grenades to cause Instant Death against Veterans and other 2W power armor units. Stoic Defender warlord trait, while not Death Guard specific, can give Pinning to one of the big infantry blobs or can be very useful with Grave Wardens who have a lot of firepower per model.
Just a friendly reminder, Calas Typhon isn't actually that great in The Reaping, mainly because he gives an extra movement reaction, yet The Reaping makes it so you can't use any movement reactions other than your advanced reaction. I'd recommend Typhon with some Grave Wardens instead in Creeping Death, as it's way more flexible and you'll use his extra reaction. Typhon is also expensive compared to the more commonly used centurion delegatus as for a really cheap points cost, you can just slap a delegatus to unlock the RoW. Also a cheap way to grab a retinue, especially deathshroud, all piled into a land raider. With the standard and Blood of Barbarus, this will be an unkillable unit, you get an extra assault phase reaction (much more useful imo) and with rad grenades, can be a decent threat to melee.
Easily one of the strongest Legion in this edition. If I weren't running EC, these lot would be my choice (although I'd be running them as Dusk Raiders myself).
So I have a decent amount of games in, and while DG legion traits are cool, they aren't exactly OP. Couple things I have learned to take advantage of include the fact that vehicles can move and still shoot. So a scorpius will always get the rocket barrage rending 4+, and fast vehicles like sabres can turbo boost what 32" and still fire. You also have to play like Death guard, so setting your HS or recon marines up out of line of sight but with a position to move into can help it if you aren't going first. Augry scanners are brutal on HS, such as las or volkite. Typhon is a beast with his powers. WS 7 and a ton of attacks, rad grenades make those Death Shroud IDing T4. BUT their 5++ is not enough to stand up to other death stars, which puts them in an odd place. Also pro tip, don't take creeping death if you have any allies. It can be a bit painful lol.
i'm going creeping death in a 1k pts zone mortalis... the entire board being considered terrain is kinda fun when my opponents realise every time something moves its punished is really funny
DG seem like they'd make a mean recon company list! Being able to move all your nemesis bolter marines and still shoot with them outside of veteran squads seems phenomenal
You're not wrong! One may argue that with a range of 72", you can usually find something decent to shoot at without moving. But it really depends on what the table looks like, and where you need to get to for objectives.
@@blackbriargaming5483 yeah, terrain density really heavily changes how good it is. But then I'd say DG as a whole are better or worse depending on the table and what it looks like, makes them hard to rate imo!
At only 24 inch range, and with how fast units move across the table, whenever I've faced one it disappears very quickly to combat. But certainly worth a shot!!
It’s been very hard for me to resist the death guard because their rules are literally exactly how I want to play. But their lore and stuff dies t appeal as much to me so sons of Horus for me atm
Great video! Really looking forward to the emperors children episode =D It has been intimidating as a new player trying to figure out what the heck to put into a list.
I keep going back and forth whether to play these guys or word bearers. Faction adhd hitting me hard because I don't want to make more than one army, as was my problem back when I played 40k, trying to stick to one! I would probably go with the reaping and just have tons of tactical squads and heavy support squads, probably toss in a tactical support squad with all flamers to dice something down. I'd also bring morty and some deathshroud in a spartan and point them at the biggest squishiest thing opposite the table. That way they don't have to worry about running anywhere, just pop out and go right into assault. That's my .02! This video doesn't make my choice any easier though! 😅
