The Horwin CR6 is a small capacity electric cafe racer that packs a punch.
It's a little more stylish than the rest of the EV market and it's very easy to get on with. Alright it's not going to light your pants on fire but it has just enough to keep you entertained on those short trips.

It's a really good looking bike. I hope more manufacturers start making a range of electric bikes, including retro's. If this bike was a little more powerful and I actually had any money then I would definitely buy it as a second bike!

They are good I just wish insurance company's would not take the piss with them, when i was looking for insurance a petrol bike that cost 5000 was £40 a month with £500 mandatory excess yet the Horwin that is also 5000 was close to £80 a month and had a £2000 mandatory excess
@karlosh9286
@karlosh9286 3 года назад
@@EQINOX187 That must be one posh petrol 125cc bike for £5000 ! Most of them are £3000 to £4200 ish. £80 / month is £960 a year, that's ridiculous. I really don't see the economics adding up on this electric bike. Even forgetting about the extra purchase price of the electric bike, for the extra £40 / month on insurance you could buy 7.3 gallons (UK) / 33.3 litres of petrol , that should be enough for about 880 miles on a 125cc bike every month. So 10,000 miles per year. Not many do that type of annual mileage on a bike. ( The manually geared 125s (not the auto scooters) do about 120 MPG or 26.4 Miles / Litre )
@EQINOX187
@EQINOX187 3 года назад
@@karlosh9286 I do not know if there is a 125 for £5000 but it didn't really mater as on the insurance websites they just ask for what bike it is / size and the value of the bike and so you can enter what ever value you want to get an insurance quote based on that and i tried all kinds of brands and came to the conclusion that at least for me they where jacking up the insurance cost for the Horwin, range wise yeah it would be problematic for long range but my purpose for the bike was a work commute of about 8 mile a day and at 1p per mile to charge so it would be cheap to run and would only need to recharge it every 7 or 8 days, but yeah insurance costs killed the idea

@@EQINOX187 Honda CB125F is about £3k. It's okay. Honda CB125R is about £4200, they're quite good for a 125. There are others. There are some chinese 125s you can get for about £2500. A Honda PCX 125 auto scooter is about £3200. 8 mile a day commute for about 220 days a year is less than 2,000 miles per year. You might ride other places, say 4,000 miles per year. This is a kind of common annual mileage on a motorcycle. A manually geared 125 does about 120 MPG. At £5.44 a gallon (£1.20 / litre), that's about 4.5 pence / mile. Auto 125cc (Honda PCX 125) scooters are more like 100 MPG, so they're about 5.4 pence per mile in petrol. So a geared 125 at 4,000 miles a year is £181 in petrol costs. You'd have spent £40 in electricity costs. So only £141 more for the petrol. But the Horwin electric bike will cost you anywhere between £2500 to £1000 more than one of the petrol 125s above, it will cost £500 a year more insurance, but only save £140 petrol. Servicing costs on a 125 will be a bit higher, a semi wild guess say £200 / year more. On the Horwin, you will be limited to a range of 70 miles, yeah I rarely did that much on my petrol 125 when I had it. Horwin, once empty a 3 hour charge. Petrol bike , 5 minutes in a petrol station. Petrol 125 bike range on my CB125R was near 300 miles. A 2021 Honda CB125R has the full legally allowed 14.7 BHP (my 2018 one had 13.3 BHP). My 2018 CB125R could do a top speed of about 65 MPH, the new one should be able to do 70MPH. If you ever go on a dual carriage way you really need something that can do over 60 MPH, preferably 70 MPH. This Horwin can do about 58 MPH. Trucks will want to over take you on the Horwin. This is NOT fun ! A Honda PCX 125 should do just over 60 MPH. Top speed is important on 125s, because they're all terrible ! Finally there's noise. In town centres a bit of exhaust noise (not loud hooligan pipes, they're anti social !) is useful, mainly for semi blind pedestrians to hear you coming. I've also got a 250w ebike, I've had pedestrians not hear me coming and almost walk out in front of me. On a 125, they'd have heard me coming. I'd love electric bikes to work and be better than petrol, the issue is they just currently don't. Economically, or practically. If I was still a learner, the only electric motorcycle that would appeal is the £11k Zero A1 SR/F (something like that) and that's not economically appeal, it's because it games the max power allowed rules, and can give a peak power of over 30 BHP. Apparently it's quite quick. But whether learners should be allowed, or if it is wise, is entirely a different conversation ! I'm sure Tim / RarifiedRoad has done a review. I'd like to get a ride on one of them ! I do reckon the law will be changed, and the Zero A1 SR/F will not be legal for learners, but currently to my knowledge it still is.

Awesome to finally see an e motorbike on the world market in the vacuum between e mopeds and the Zero or Livewire. Liked the review but what happens to the performance on a few different cambered hills would be useful for potential buyers. Thanks.

Question. If I see myself on this bike in a situation where I need to quickly get away from some danger in any direction, will I be able to live another day or will I meet my maker?
@EQINOX187
@EQINOX187 3 года назад
In short no, when i test drove one of these I found the throttle is quite hmm how should i put it hmm soft or delayed, the controller seams set up to apply the power slowly and as it sees fit rather than as demanded by the rider, in comparison when I tested a Zero CBT class bike when you pin the throttle at the lights it will lift the front wheel and it was very responsive to the throttle input and so what you requested you got, but with the horwin if you pin the throttle expecting the same but no and so at the lights it will just softly pull away, similarly I found when driving if I try to rapidly accelerate from say 20 or 30 the Zero did so but with the Horwin it was more pull the throttle and go put the kettle on while you wait, this is not so much a flaw with the core bike its self but rather the controller and setting s Horwin went with and for some stupid reason the decided to to force the bike to apply the power softly and based on the controller rather than what the rider demands from the throttle, I am told there is an upgraded controller you can buy that makes the Horwin more responsive but I have not rested or seen it in action.

@Capt Shiny hey :-) ICE bikes have singles, twins, triples, fours, v twins, L twins, boxers, rotax, v4's, all feeling different to ride. An electric motor is just that, it has no "soul", sure some will be geared for speed, some acceleration, and some for economy, but they are still just an electric motor drawing power from a battery. I am happy to be proved wrong, very much so... but all I can currently see is them being just a different colour with different suspension options depending on the manufacturer.

Looked like it had some tank space for stuff, could you fit your helmet in it? Thoughts on the "pro" version of this, apparently it has five gears, which is interesting on an electric motorbike. 6 hours charging does some like a long time, wonder if it has any kind of fast charging. Cheers

Good review . Like from me. Edited this because I just saw a comment it's more like £5,047 after OLEV grant and not £6240, so that does change my diatribe ! A Honda CB125F at £3K costs £2K less. I reckon £2K of petrol a 125 cc bike will do about 44,000 miles. The only bikes I see on Autotrader with that kind of mileage on are usually large adventure or touring bikes of a reasonable age. The Honda will refill in 5 mins, have a 200 to 300 mile range, and similar performance (might be better) Now if I was a rich learner, economics not being considered, the £11k Zero A1 class bike could appeal, only because that games the allowed power rules, allowing a transient peak of 30 BHP, and sounds like a pretty quick bike to the legal speeds we're allowed to do. Whether learners should be allowed that is an entirely different diatribe ! If economics come into it, well it's back to a Honda CB125F. (more likely the CB125R , but the economics are closer on that one ) Electric bikes still aren't doing it for me, too dear, naff range, slow charging, no noise (to warn pedestrians) and I'm a dinosaur !

It is a great bike and i really want one however there is no escaping that cheesy start up and show down music, it is utterly not needed but also there is no way to disable it, I personally love electric bikes but it is hard for other bikers to take the seriously and even less when it makes a cheesy start tune right out of a early 2000s smart phone, when i had one of these out on a test drive there was not one person that did not look and then laugh when the tune started and frankly it was embarrassing to be in a supermarket car park as you start it and boom start music and everyone one turns and looks at you and you can see them holding back the laugh, it got to the point where i would avoid turning it on until there was no one around, and this is a real shame as the bike its self is really good but that start tune though... hell there is a reason computers and phones ditched the start tune and no respectable electric car or bike has them so it boggles the mind as to why they seen fit to ad it and also seemingly have noway to disable it.
