Unboxing a Hot Air Balloon themed, “Rise Up & Pray”, Operation Christmas Child (OCC) shoebox. In this video, I hope to inspire you with ideas for packing your own OCC shoebox by sharing what I have packed for a 10-14 year old girl in this one.

That is the cutest cross body bag! I want one! The necklaces are very cute as is the keychain. I’ve always loved that coloring book and very cool “Spot the Difference”. I like those too! Another favorite is her tote! I could also use that! 😂 Those stickers are so awesome! Love that we can get those so reasonable now! Oh I’m sure she will be wowed! There’s so many beautiful items for her to feel the love and feel joy! Rise up and pray is the perfect title for this one Trish! Loved it! ❤

I know! After I received the cross body bag I thought, I want one of these! They sell them in solid colors, too. Spot the difference is one of my favorites to take with me on vacation or when traveling, in case I don’t feel like getting into a book. Yep, can’t beat the price of those stickers on Shein or TEMU. I love this theme for the older girls. It is so great. I think anything that takes off into the air can be a very inspirational motif for a child. I especially like the small handbag, the big shopping bag and the squishmallow.

Thank you so much, Elaina. I agree about anything that takes off into the air. I originally wanted to include a mylar, hot air balloon. I did find one on TEMU, but it was gigantic. The blown up size was 25 x 31“. I thought that was a bit overkill since she would have to blow it up by mouth. Then what would you do with it after she blew it up? 🤔 Plus, the folded up size would be a bit bulkier than I had in mind, so I passed on that idea, but it would’ve been cool if I could’ve found one that was standard balloon size. I suppose I could always throw in some regular balloons. That would be fun. Thanks for watching, Elena 🥰

Beautiful box Trish! The theme and the name are inspiring. You have given me an idea for another theme to worship our Lord. I think the purse has to be my favorite item because I know how much young girls love purses! The shirt is beautiful. The bandana really gives it a pop of color. I hope she finds the right person to share her necklace with. I immediately thought of my sister when you took it out and perhaps she will too! TFS, this one truly gave me inspiration!

Oh, I love this theme and the phrase you put on the lid. That purse is adorable! Spot the difference is really fun...I enjoy doing word searches before bed at night. Love her tote bag. How sweet of your friend to give you a t shirt to go with the theme. I love how the scrunchies will go so sweet with her t shirt...in her hair or as bracelets on her wrist. A very well rounded shoebox with such a sweet theme. 💙

Thank you, Diana. When I was looking through my stash for a journal to add to this box, I knew “Rise Up and Pray” was the perfect choice. The cover just needed a little zhuzhing up, so a hot air balloon sticker seemed the appropriate decoration. Then, of course, it was the ideal name for the box. Oh what a lovely lovely box! Love the title. Thanks for the shout out. ❤ That was one of my favorite boxes last year. 😌 Yep, I got the diamond painting kit from Hobby Lobby. And yep, I sure do shop there a lot. I have actually purchased those many times, but I didn’t see them on clearance 😕. I would have bought them all lol. I make them for myself too and use them to make cards. I have also purchased the cactus and the heart. I am so sure that the young lady who receives this box will really love that little kit. It’s so hard to pick a favorite item in this box, but honestly, it might be those cute balloon socks lol. Actually, all the apparel items, jewelry and purse together are my favorite items. The shirt is so beautiful. You did an amazing job putting this box together. Thanks so much for sharing it with us before it gets sent on its journey 🤗

Thanks, Val, and thank you for the inspiration. Just before I filmed this video, I decided to take another peek at yours and got a chuckle when you held up the diamond art kit 😆. Yeah, Hobby Lobby put them on clearance when they were doing all that clearing out a couple of months ago, so I grabbed the hot air balloon. Super awesome🎈 there are quite a lot of hot air balloons in my area, I never been inside one since I'm therffied of heights, but they are so pretty (watching from below on safe ground XD) you included a lot of fun items, there are a lot of craft items :) :)

Love this theme! I've packed some of the coloring books in boxes that weren't balloon themed. They're so pretty. It's always fun to see all the different items you collect for your themes. My favorite might be the crossbody purse, but I'm not sure. So many pretty things for her. 💞

Absolutely beautiful box!! There are definitely many wows and I know she will feel the love. 🫶🏻 Love her coloring book and that you included a whole box of prang colored pencils. Her shirt is just gorgeous. I found one of the hot air balloon craft kits on clearance at HL as well. Thank you, Tracy. Thanks to Shein I found a lot of the hot air balloon items, at great prices, too. I love the color on that breathe bracelet. I think I only paid $.10 for it. I love it when I can find fun, jewelry and cool, little trinkets for my OCC boxes at DG when they are 75-90% off! 🥰

Great theme, Trish! I am also working on a hot air balloon shoebox. I've been working on it for a while but I probably won't finish till next year. But I love you found so many Hot Air Balloon items! I need to look up Shein! Love the purse. Great hot air balloon jewelry. I got the same coloring book from DT. Great bead kit. My favorite might be the tote. Love this theme, Trish! Trish, what a beautiful box ! I don't know about all these special days ! They sure do make cute themed boxes. I've used so many of these skateboard stickers this year. They are wonderful to decorate everything. The tee shirt is beautiful.

Thanks, Judy. Well, I didn’t build the themes around the day. I just happened to come across the Day Calendar while searching for something else and started looking up some of the themes that I had already started or packed and found that there was a day of the year celebrated for nearly all of them 😂. So, I figured why not share them on the day they are celebrated, 😆. The T-shirt is one of my favorites, as is the cross body bag and tote. TFW 🥰

Hi Melanie. That particular journal I got on clearance at Walmart a couple of years ago. I believe it came in a 3-pack, but I don’t recall what I paid for them. I found them in the office supplies/stationary aisle. The best way to find journals, cheap, is to shop year round, pick them up when they are on clearance and and collect them as you go. I’ve found them on clearance at Walmart, Dollar General and Walgreens. I also pick up journals at Dollar Tree. They have the best selection of journals in town and they are well worth $1.25.

I’ve noticed most shoebox packers aren’t including soap anymore is that new this year?

Hi Sarah. As of the date of this publishing, soap is still allowed by OCC, although they removed it from their suggested items. There has been a lot of discussion about it, though, as it sometimes gets tripped up in customs, likely due to expiration, being out of the original packaging, moisture, mold, whatever. Many people still pack soap. Last year when I started running out of soap, I made the decision not to purchase any more for my shoeboxes. That was just a personal decision. I was torn about it at first, but it allows me to pack something longer lasting in the space that the soap would’ve taken. However, you can definitely still pack soap in 2023.
