This has to be the saddest song I've ever heard. Erroll's screams are packed with raw emotion, and even the instruments seem to be crying. Amazing song from a fantastic singer songwriter.
He may have known someone who went through this situation and he was literally feeling the way anyone would really. It gets to me every single time I play it!!!
@@tammicorbett2614 He really pours his voice out. It's like liquid chocolate. This by far his best song. It's time this song was played more times. I will be attending our local karaoke do tomorrow night and i'm going to have a go at this song
@@StinkyGreenBud I disagree with you on that ,,the younger generation need to hear this magnificent voice and song,,the radio is a great way of sharing 👍🤞
The music of the 70’s and 80’s will stand the test of time and still be relevant in another 44 years. How we took the good music we were listening too for granted.
My heart aches for the poor man that found his beautiful wife stiff and cold, and then he had to read the love letter. He loved her so much, I know it was hard for her, but she wasn't satisfied with just his love, she desperately needed to be a star 🌟 and now she is!!!
I remember when this first was released in 1974, I was 13 years old and cried when I first heard this. Every time I hear it now, after 50 years, I cry.
What a great band. Saw them live in Newquay Cornwall in 1971. A young lad of 22 then. Where have the years gone? Thank goodness the music lives on. They recorded some great songs, yet only had one number 1. Sadly, Erroll is no longer with us. RIP and thank you for the music,
Omg, when did this wonderful man pass away? Lord…I didn’t know, ooooh how very sad, 😔 rest in peace my friend, I loved you silly, and your awesome voice.😢🫶🙏
Know what you mean I heard this on Walkman radio. I searched for it for years I found it by accident. Now It's one of my favourite songs ever behind bohemian rhapsody.
, I don't know how I never heard it back in the day, but I'm literally addicted to it, so sad, but I think it's supposed to make you feel, regardless of what that feeling is. I just love it. 😢❤
One of the most epic songs of all time. Haunting. Achingly sad. Tragic. Sung with such emotion and sincerity. Hook is undeniable. Impeccable musicianship and production.
Oooh how I still love this tear jerker, the first time I heard, I burst into tears, omg it was sooooo sad, I must of called the D.J. 100 times a day and begged him to play it. Look at his face, soo very real and painful. He is soooo good, no great at this song,🎶 I thank you to this day. I still play it a lot! ❤❤❤❤❤😊
Still my favourite Hot Chocolate song. Can't believe this came out six months before my sixteenth birthday. Such a stunningly beautiful and agonisingly sad song. Still so fresh forty six years on! Black and white, working together to make beautiful music... Why can't we get back to that kind of harmony in all aspects of life today?
I love hot chocolate they reminds me my youth with their songs i was also sixtheen and you have so right these beautiful years cant come back i miss (νοσταλγω ελληνικα)contains all the emotional in heart and soul
I came across this song looking for "Every 1's a Winner". I heard it while in the store today. I never heard this song before and I have been somewhat of a fan of these guys since the late 70's. I read their Bio and the band had amazing success in Europe and the UK that we didn't get here except for a couple dance songs. What a history. Erroll Brown...was the real!! RIP.
This has got to be the saddest song ever written. I remember I was 12 years old when this song came out in 1974 and ever since, whenever I hear this song, especially when Errol screams at the end, I always bawl my eyes out. R.I.P. Mr. Brown.
My God. I was 17 when this came out. I rushed to buy the 45, lol. I had never heard anything so hauntingly beautiful. That was a long long time ago. It's amazing the emotions an old song can stir up.
Wow! I grew up with this song playing on the radio in the 70's. In Australia we didn't have the opportunity to view the music clips. But, Errol Brown, makes you feel the saddness in this clip. A very moving, touching song. Thank you for sharing
This song is so beautiful, as is, I NEVER want to hear a cover of it. Made me cry as a young girl, still does at 58. That soulful wail haunts my aching heart. So, so beautiful, again.
I first heard this song when I was 12 and home from school with chickenpox. It has taken me 48 years to find it again! Heart wrenching and beautiful. I keep playing it over and over. I can’t believe I finally found it!
“Emma”, also known as “Emma, Emmaline” or “Emmeline”, is a song by Errol Brown and Tony Wilson released as a single by British soul band Hot Chocolate in 1974. It reached number 3 in the UK Singles Chart and number 8 in the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. After being asked by producer Mickie Most to add “depth and darkness” to his compositions, Brown wrote the song about the death of his mother. I highly recommend the cover version by legendary band Sisters of Mercy. It is romantic, poignant, beautiful, haunting, emotional, and tragic. It is the absolute perfect example of what goth rock should sound like.
Emma is one of the songs I will never forget. Top ten ever, imho. I was 16 I think. Knocked me out immediately. I loved this band , really loved them so much. Darling I love you.... I just can’t keep on trying no more ..... Outstanding.
What a unique vocal talent and a true gentleman. They were for me at least, THE sound of the 70's and of my youth. Fondly remembered and sadly missed. R.I.P Errol and thank you.
Thereis only one Erroll Great singer Fab Band...awesome songs...We miss you Erroll you are now a beautiful spirit and a true legend..Gone too soon.!X...R.I.P🌈🌠🌷❤
"Emma" is Hot Chocolate’s real classic. The story is tied to the death of Errol's mother - just listen to his harrowing screams at the fade. It’s wonderful something that twisted should ever have been considered chart fodder.
How cool was HOT CHOCOLATE still love listening to them after all this time Born in 1958 I remember seeing them on top of the pops When I was a kid and feel like a young kid now 😊
Errol Brown the man with a voice as smooth as velvet & satin trousers as tight as skin. The two coolest black dudes of the 70's were Errol & John Shaft. You were a class act sir & will be much missed by your legions of fans here in the UK.
gutted to learn of Errol's passing. The best British soul voice for me and a massive part of my youth spent boogying to just about everything hot Chocolate ever recorded. So under-rated as both a singer and a songwriter. Thanks for the good times Mr Brown SIR.
RIP Errol Brown Hot Chocolate an excellent pop group. I believe in Miracles, So you win again, Everybody’s a winner and Emily these Hot Chocolate classics and Errol singing them.
I’ve watched this song about 5 times so far today.......what a song .....those were the days. Miss them so much. Make that 15 times this weekend 👏👏👏👏. The soul of Errol is unsurpassed!
