I love press and curls. That's all I used to get back in the day. On Saturday nights I would get my hair shampooed and conditioned. Then it would get plaited up & the next day it would be dry. Next step would be to press it out then curl with the marcels on the stove. It would be shiny & the curls would stay in for 2 weeks. Those were the good old days.

To this day the best silk press i ever got was from my cousin, who was a big hairstylist in Chicago back in the day. It was about 12 years ago. He was no longer doing hair at that point except as a hobby as he moved on to a different career. We were all in town for his sister's graduation and I was the only family member that didn't have weave in or a wig on so when he said he wanted to do someone's hair, I was the only option. I tried to get out of it by saying I had soccer practices almost every day and would sweat it out in less than a week. He bet me it would last a month even with my exercise. I accepted that bet and let him do it. I called him a month later and let him know he won. It probably could have lasted longer but its rare I go a month without washing my hair (usually I did 2 weeks). He also used a hot comb and explain to me and my mom his process but I've been able to mimick it fully with the same results.

In useing a hot comb as u are in this video straightning out her roots once water touches it it will revert back to kink and u will need to retouch it anyone who’s used a straightning comb before or back in the day would know this .

Totally love how you know her hair. Most stylists don't take their time. They just turn the heat up on the blow dryer and flat iron and their clients still end up with an afro with minutes after leaving the salon.

How do you keep your combs, brushes, etc sanitized when going from one customer to the other? Also, have you ever had a customer with lice? Any hairstylist, feel free to answer....

We use barbicide and separate clean tools from dirty ones so that we know which ones are clean and dirty. After its soaked in barbicide we wash it off and dry it. If a customer comes in with lice we do not service them.

Ive never seen anyone who was in love with relaxers. Ive been dealing in hair since the 60s and only time I recommend them is if you have really coarse hair or a short cut. People try to avoid them like the plague.

I relax my hair. I don't use heat on my hair. I spray it with water, spray in a leave-in conditioner and roller set it to air dry. That's all. People always think I have on a wig, have a weave in, or get my hair done at a salon every week. I just pay attention to good hair stylist. This channel is wonderful for giving great information.

@@sherylleelee oh my.... That is the only way that I think a relaxer would work. I forgot about that. When I first started doing hair around 1965 and if you got a relaxer we would wet set it on rollers and set you under the dryer and then comb you out. That worked out okay but at that time the relaxers were very hard on the hair by them selves. Some times their hair would be breaking off In the shampoo bowl while rinsing the relaxer out of their heads. I see what your saying because roller set hair is big and full and looks like a wig. In its day when that was the look it was cool! But in 2020 I would wet wrap that hair and when dry run a flat iron on low over it to make it look more modern. Still your way is the best way ....no heat at all!

I love relaxers, i don't blow dry, i wrap my hair. Once it drys i use bendy rollers.

@@kimbermichelle3922 like I said if you. Get a retouch and dont over process that relaxer and roller set it. You cannot ever put a hot Iron on your hair then at that point you probably will have a nice head of hair. Long and full hair.

I love relaxers and i used to roller set too! It works well but now i just air dry and flatiron on the lowest possible setting. If you do braid outs and not heat styling in between the weeks you wear it flat ironed that helps a lot too. My hair is almost waist length doing this.

Okay that’s exactly what I need a hot comb for my roots. I have curly hair and it gets really frizzy and puffy, I have a big issue with my baby hairs not staying put, I’ve used a hair straightener to try to control it but it just makes them stick out more lol.
