Santa Monica Code Enforcement Officers, with SMPD Officers, confiscate hot dogs at Santa Monica Beach on Sunday, August 14, 2022. A citation was also issued.
The multi-department Vendors Task Force consists of Santa Monica Police Officers, Santa Monica Code Enforcement Officers, Santa Monica Fire Department personnel, Santa Monica Harbor Patrol Officers, Public Works, and private security guards.
Sidewalk vending can be conducted on most sidewalks and pedestrian paths in the City, but there are restrictions on where stationary vending can take place and the hours when roaming vending can take place in residential locations. In addition, no vending is allowed on private property, the Santa Monica Pier (including within 100 feet of the Pier), a farmer’s market, permitted community events or filming activities, a bike path, a street, driveway, or public parking lot.
Stationary sidewalk vending is also prohibited within 25 feet of the Third Street Promenade, the Transit Mall, the Beach, in residential areas, the 1700 block of Ocean Front Walk, and portions of the Palisades Park within 500 feet of the Pier entrance. Roaming sidewalk vending is not allowed in residential areas between 9 p.m. and 8 a.m.
The newly formed task force has been instrumental in helping to educate and enforce the City’s safety laws and ensuring safe sidewalk vending practices across the City.

I have never heard so many INSULTS hurled at the SMPD, and it just went on and on! For those of you that don't speak Spanish, they repeatedly called them clowns, accused them of assaulting the female vendor (even though she ran as soon as she saw them), demanded they speak Spanish (even though the officers were not speaking to them); and they claimed that the vendor was just trying "to make a living." I loved their reply, "If you feel that way, why don't you ask her husband or boyfriend why he has her selling hot dogs when she's pregnant?" They now have "lookouts" up above the parking lot to call them on their cell phones when they see SMPD heading their way. I support SMPD even though I do not live in the city, and I will continue to support them all. These people will never quit.

The vendor did not have the proper permit to sell the hot dogs on the pier, so that way why they confiscated the crap and the hispanic knew if was breaking the law. Bet me they knew.

If the operator of the hot dog cart ran off, then it appears she abandoned it. Why can’t SMPD just confiscate all the equipment (cart, cooker, cell phone, and money) along with the food?

These illegal dogs must be removed immediately and the vendors arrested and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Only rich privileged folks can break the law without consequences.

There's nothing worse than food poisoning. I get it every time I go to Asia. Unsanitary cooking conditions can't be tolerated. This isn't Tijuana.

Those 🌭 smell good when you pass by them but after seeing these vids and the other video of the pier performers saying how unsanitized these vendors are, I’m staying away Ok I’m gonna give one thing they said, the guys said that the vendors take the carts in the bathroom 🚽 with them. You don't even know how the food was handled, so I don't think you should want any of it. There is a far safer way to get food that you need. There are church groups, pantries and other resources that you can go to. There is also Meals-On-Wheels that will deliver food right to your door.

@@euphoricmonk it was overkill with how they did it, and how dang many officers does it take to put some weinies in a trash bag. Seriously, no one was fighting them about it. It didn't need to turn into a commercial of over use of power. Get a heart and settle down now.
