The smoke happens when you are not using it properly. First you need to get the stove to the working temperature. Then the second combustion happens, only then add the cooking pot. Keep the fire going by adding the firewood slowly. It will smoke very little or not at all. I made a short video about it, it can be found on my channel.
@oldbatwit5102
@oldbatwit5102 2 года назад
I have seen a couple of reviews on this where they pretty much completely cured the smoke problem by slightly pulling open the ash pan at the bottom. Apparently this is essential. I have seen it in use smoke-free. I would personally also try not cooking over big flames but later, when it's mainly coals.

I would still tree equidistant holes on the top lip and add three bolts to raise what ever pan you are using up ...or, just avoid the thing altogether.

I'd have to disagree here with you and others that say/suggest etc. that it doesn't work. I saw your vid, went and had a look at one of these and tested it out. There is a trick, well not even a trick. Unfortunately, it's not written in the manual-LOL, there is no manual- it is after all just a wood stove. Anyway one must use the lower ash tray as the lower air vent. it works because there is a large flange on the tray, so it can still catch ash and provide a variable gap for air intake. Result, ZERO smoke with top hole completely occluded and complete combustion. Try it out, you might think differently about it.

Have you done a video on this? Im curious as this stove looks like it would be a interesting camp stove. I think if I had this stove Id just tackweld some small 3/4" angle brackets to the top of the stove as pot supports.
@BushCampingTools
@BushCampingTools 3 года назад
@@AtomicBleach Yes indeed, I've made a video, no need to tack weld anything or modify it. See my video on my channel. I won't hijack his channel to advertise mine LOL to be fair. Also check the comments from those on my channel who own it and say how good it is if u know how to use it. It will rage properly with the right fuel an using the vent 9which is actually part of the ash tray! I do not believe the presenter in the above video examined the stove carefully enough and simply wrote it off. It is actually an excellent wood/charcoal/ heat beads etc stove.

@AtomicBleach 3 года назад
@@BushCampingTools appreciate the link! Looks like it kicks arse when it's actually getting proper airflow. Question... Have you tried it without the ash tray? Was wondering if you could basically do a swedish fire torch in it or is there a grate separating the ash tray? Also I always carry with me a extendable pocket fire bellows fresh stoves like this you can pick them up from sites like AliExpress for basically a few cent
@BushCampingTools
@BushCampingTools 3 года назад
@@AtomicBleach Hi, I forgot to say there is a special pipe included and this can be used to blow air into it safely. and also pick up and move the device. There is a grate which can not b roved and sits above the ash tray. I think if you could find a small log of the right diameter there is no reason not to be able to use it as a Swedish fire/log thingy for sure. But one can def regulate the amount of air intake from below (not through the gasifier holes of course) by moving the ash tray in ad out. I have tried the stove since this video many many times and in fact my son has been using it camping for the last 3 weeks almost non stop. I don't know what wood he is using but I have also tried it out using only softwoods too like willow a it works just as well as when I tried the following: Birch; beech; oak; walnut; mulberry; cherry; apricot and apple. I've also used pine as a softwood too but pine branches, not processed timber of course. Some of my viewers hv told me they also use charcoal to good effect and i think whilst I have not tried that, it would work very well. To be honest the WTG 380 I show on the channel is extremely good but for car camping only or a crazy day hike with someone else who carries the food LOL; this small stove we have also taken on day hikes numerous times now and to be honest it works a dream. We have another small gasifier type stove (a TOAKS) but it only works well with hardwoods of high calorific value. o I think if you were to remove the ash tray altogether it would not burn so well as one needs some sort of air regulation for it's design to work properly. Some Japanese (only in Japanese language) also show it to work very well. Finally there are lots of wood burning stoves out there, some are gimmicks, some just don't work but this is not one of them.

It does work, u just have to know how to use it, see my vid (and no, they never gave me one, i bought it). the design is actually excellent when one thinks about how it is supposed to work. i studied this carefully before trying to use the stove in the bush.
@avadheshmalik
@avadheshmalik 2 года назад
I have been using one for some time now. I found it excellent and all it takes is to tweak the airflow a bit by moving the base plate (ash tray). Also, you have to see how tall you're stacking the wood pieces in order to enable the smoke to undergo proper secondary combustion. Pretty elementary, if you ask me... I would have tried that before giving such a bad review.

I bought one and yes, that´s the first thing I notice, no top pan/pot support! On a positive note though, I have a Petromax FT1 Dutch oven, which is the smallest one they make, and If you buy the FT1 with feet, those feet fit right in the top feed hole but not all the way in so you´re left with a 3-4cm. gap! Perfect for air flow 😎

I agree you werent using it correctly......It needs to draw as much as it burns while a pot is on the top so all doors and ash pans must be closed for proper airflow. I will not go so far as to say this is my first choice but most of these types require a very narrow burn vs draw requirement.

It's a so called "rocket stove" design with its insulated sides and side loading. Designed for burning small bits of wood (like twigs and grasses) at extra high temperatures which causes the exhaust gasses to form a secondary combustion. You are overloading it with way too much fuel like it is a standard wood stove. It's actually much more efficient than a regular wood stove for cooking if you're using it properly. The smoke is operator error on your end.

@torpilo

The stove is made to function with the feeding door closed, otherwise the gasifier effect is annulled. Extra air flow can be obtain by manipulating the ash pan. Those been said, I don't think it will be the best gasifier stove, since the conical shape isn't the best to create the chimney effect.

A fair review 👍 .. thanks for that. That said, it looks to me, more like a little 'base camp' stove or good for staying out of trouble playing with it on the front veranda. Appears to be robust .. stainless steel so longevity shouldn't be a problem. Some tweaking regarding a top pot stand and then good to go. Perhaps not everyone's cup of tea, but then look around regarding taste and choice .. 😏.

I kinda think maybe its designed to cook from coals and not an open flame like most folding or backpack stoves. Just looking at the design it sorta should be treated more like a grill. It has a ash tray so i wouldn't think it's an open flame cooker. I could be wrong because I don't have one I front of me to see but treat it like a conventional grill and see if that helps.

Sorry to say, but there is a big difference between “inefficient” and the fact that you do know how to use it properly…. You should use it with the door closed, that ensures the proper airflow and reduces smoke. Airflow can be then controlled using the tray underneath the stove. There are other videos on RU-vid demonstrating proper usage, take a look, maybe they can help you. ;) Cannot comment anything on bulkiness and weight, but that could have been easily seen in the specs before buying.

I also thought about a pot lifter when I saw the smoke. Maybe adding 3 screws/bolts (protruding around half an inch / 13 mm) onto the top could do the job. In French, they say its conception limits smoke's production (yes, until you put a pan onto its top :-D ). I saw this stove in a Decathlon shop and found it, exactly as you say, heavy, bulky and quite expensive, for a made in China device. So I didn't buy it, and do not regret that :-) My decision was already made as I saw the thing, before you video. Thank you for your honest review. ATB.

I guess they'll sell them to people who are new to camping and will just pick one up as they are in store but i can't see any experienced hiker/camping buying one. I am a little skeptical about your opinion in the sense that it will depend on the use; in my case I would buy this model in anticipation of a motorcycle trip, I have the possibility of storing it on the suitcases of the motorcycle and arrived at the camp it will prevent me from making a campfire (prohibited in my region ), would allow me to cook (safe) and especially to warm up close to my tent ... If the size and weight do not bother it is a good model I find, and for 50 euros it is not that expensive I think
