While on the surface it seems similar to slime, this definitely ain't no slime. Both series are great but very distinct from the other

The similarities between this and Slime will quickly cease, as Slime develops into a Civilization game, Spider remains as an insanely difficult Dungeon Crawler where the devs just want to see you suffer (Noita).

The entire fandom when he said it was similar to slime isekai: So you have chosen… death.

In all honestly, I think aoi yuuki carried the first episode completely.

One of the big differences between Spider and Slime - in Slime, Rimuru is pretty much gifted unlimited power right in the beginning. In Spider, Kumoko has to work HARD. She earns every bit of power she ends up wielding. And watching that process is one of the best and most unique parts of this show.

An extremely morally grey story. With hard hard backstories manipulative overlords, religion and political influence, major survival fights and the best goddamn female mc ive ever seen.

I feel saddened that the word "Hot Garbage" and Kumo desu ga Nani ka? are in the same sentence.

A lot of LN readers don't like kumo desu being called the same as slime, me included.

I would take every isekai over "I'm going to academy, fighting against monsters. My abilities are somewhat unconventional and a harem is already waiting for me. My childhood friend that happend to be girl is now crossdressing and is my roommate" there are like tens of this garbage lmao

A) Nah fam. Spider is very different from other isekai. Starting from a certain point I dont know any isekai being similiar. As a wn reader I can promise ya that B) I think the 3D animation will be dropped from a certain point in the story onword. This is one of those Isekai where the "story" is the main focus, yes, at the start is kinda comedy, but later on its become really, really good. They will explain everything, why they all died in the school, why this is a "game" world and so on, so keep watching it, its really, really good

I never had a problem with CGI , if the series is good the CGI could be as heinous as it wants. I didn't even notice it here. As a loving owner of the LN I will definitely watch this whole

Dude, come on. I love both Kumo and Slime, but the first episodes are very different. Slime ep 1 spends a decent amount of time on him as a human and how he gets killed and reincarnated. Then he wanders around without any real trouble in the cave eating grass. He then runs into Veldora and becomes his friend. How in the everloving hell is that the same as Kumo ep 1?! Kumo ep 1 you barely get introduced to the class before they get isekai'd. Kumo is just a run of the mill monstrous spider with no obvious stand out power and is immediately faced with death. First from her siblings and then her mother. She is faced with the genuine threat of humanity killing her siblings and she knows she can't face them now. She also faces starvation and has to eat that dead brother spider. And it is deeply unpleasant physically and morally. Switch over to the other students and they are mostly doing pretty freaking good. They are nobility and being well taken care of. Then back to kumoko dealing with the frog, getting heavily damaged and having to eat it's acidic flesh. How. How the fuck can you say these two episodes are the same?!

Kumo Desu is ACTUALLY good. One thing to note, the "cute" look of Kumo-chan is how SHE views herself... the other spiders around her is how she ACTUALLY looks. Also, the starting scene of the classroom is very important and is hella spoilers... everyone who got killed in that classroom reincarnated.

Kumo desu ga nani ka? Is definitely different from slime. But i agree that there are many parallels between the two series. Both have nonhuman MCs with growth type abilities and potential, the tone of the two stories switches from comedic to dark and vice versa pretty often, lots of sidestories and other characters who were isekai'ed with story arcs that always feel different and refreshing. But the starting point of the two stories are vastly different, while rimuru is free to go to the surface just by episode one, kumoko here will have to struggle to get out of her situation. Rimuru was reincarnated with a unique skill but kumoko has none of that, spider was suffering from day one, while slime was more about how he would use his power. Of course, slime will eventually have moments where rimuru struggles but it is never to the extent as seen in spider. Slime focuses partly on kingdom building, the application of modern ideals and knowledge to another world. But that is because rimuru had the time and power to do that, if rimuru was born without his predator unique skill it would be a vastly different story. Slime was also about responsibility, rimuru was never lonely in the story, always having companions and subordinates, but the tension comes from the responsibility he has over the life of his subordinates and friends. Spider was more lonely, kumoko would be isolated, with no one to rely on but herself. All around her a monsters with no inteligence and beings that only see her as food. The only intelligent beings that live there are cruel as they would toy and play with their food. Both characters would end as powerful individuals with vastly different ideologies, rimuru embodies fairness, responsibility and loyalty Kumoko would embody survival, fear and vengeance.

Definitely stick with this series, it will have 24 chapters iirc so there's a lot of time for it to develop. The struggle is real and so is the humor, and just you wait for the twist later on... We are in for a treat.

The similarity to the slime will ended very quickly. The series are very different. Our poor white spider live a much harsher life.

The light novel is actually my favorite LN ever so I‘ve been really excited for this anime ever since it was announced almost 2 years ago. I can tell you right now if the animation holds up this is gonna be one of the highlights of the season, wich is saying a lot, especially in this season !

the only similarity with Rimuru is they're isekai'd and turn into monsters. but oh boy, Kumoko didnt get any freebies and handouts, no allies, everything is out kill her for a long time. not hating on Slime though, cause i love the empire building aspect of it. and i love the survival aspect of the Spider too.

Easiest way I think this can be explained: Spider is to Slime what Re:Zero is to Konosuba. At the very first glance the story is very similar, but the further it goes, the more distinct and different they are.

The similarities are superficial. It's obvious Rimuru had it way easier than Kumoko. The presentation was also completely different considering how the animators made comparisons between her classmates' easy life and her harsh reality. Her character also actually had to find things out by herself even with the "narrator". This was a lazy review.

The difference between slime and this is that the spider actually faced real danger while slime was OP from ep 1. I prefer spider series over slime

It's a little late but I would hardly say this is similar to slime reincarnation. Slime reincarnation is the story of a op main character building his own village and relationships. Kumo desu ga is more of a story of a survival story and uncovering secrets of an unknown mysterious world

Hold up. Slime didn’t start in a high level area. Everything was pretty low level, except for the freaking dragon.

The cgi looks wonky at some times and is overall petty good. Lets be honest tho most good cgi is just cgi thats not berserk 2016

I love that this series answered questions people tend to either overlook or left unanswered in most Isekai and spun it into a really well thought and pretty enjoyable story.

I watched it yesterday and its actually one of the few anime this season ima follow. It's super funny and pretty cool.

One thing I don’t get is how people complain about isekai copy paste template but almost every anime season they freak out over the same romance/ slice of life copy paste

What i like about this serie is that there is an explanation as to why there is a Game like system in the world and it is part of the main plot.

So I watched the first episode and thought it was okay, but for some odd reason I felt the need to read the LN so I’m about to finish the first volume and honesty if this just keeps its pace we’ll be fine. It could be amazing.

Main difference between this and other isekais is that she's not OP. She fights, wins and levels up almost in a Shounen-like way which is very satisfying to read/see. Hope the anime gives the fights justice since the manga surprisingly gave me chills.

For this series it's completely understandable to have cgi as a manga and light novel reader this series would be extremely expensive to animate as it has a very large amount of monsters most of time and has a lot going on too. I do not think the cgi even that bad looking I'm really looking forward to the rest of the anime

Actually, I've heard that the only thing Spider has in common with Berserk is its director. Supposedly the CGI is being done by other people.

I largely don't like it when there is a mix of 2D and 3D. There were cases like Code Lyoko where they made it work. If it's 2D they are on Earth, if it's 3D they are on Lyoko, it's as simple as that and can actually help you keep track. With all the video game anime out there I'm surprised there hasn't been one that did something similar. Still I wasn't too bothered by the use of 3D in this one. I noticed it when watching the preview last year, but while watching the show I forgot about it after a while. So while it isn't all that good of a use of CG, it's not horrible.

Yeah... I gotta say, the start of the series may seem similar, especially the anime, but the series are completely different. It becomes very clear later on and how a lot of what is happening now foreshadows future events. I haven't even thought of comparing them.

Sorry to say you dont know why peps love that series yet ,-)))))). Sure the MCs personality is one of its positives but its so much more than "just" that. Once things open up you find a world that is on par with re zero in its lore and factions if overall a LOTs more hillarious in tone despite some rather dark plotpoints......

you didnt even touch about the other reincarnations. Like all those other characters. Slime didnt have them. Your bias and superficial view on the episode is kinda showing off too much here. Some are understadanble but others like how you just ignored the other characters presented or how she gets a USELESS SKILL and how she fails to use the magic skill just piss me off. Slime he was starting op already in the first episode. He was just one shooting monsters from the get-go. Spider has actually started in a serious struggle from the very first episde.

Not every Isekai is gonna be a re:zero or Overlord, it's gonna be a Konosuba Me: Why not ALL of them at the same trime?

I’ve read the LNs and they are a really easy read. The first 3 books are pretty standard Isekai but then things really open up a lot, so it’s the sort of story where a second series will really improve it. There are some great fights to come this series though so I really hope the cgi does a good job with them! It’s a fun but dark series and the name thing ain’t coming up anytime soon if they stay faithful to the books.

This series is one of my favorites as far as Isekai go (the LN is my favorite, the Manga I still don't understand why they left out the human narrative; anime is a fair middle in terms of quality); I'll say one thing, WITHOUT any spoiler: something this series does EXTRAORDINARILY WELL is foreshadowing! Right now, they teased stuff that right now only appears minor or trivial but will reveal it's true meaning in Volume 9 of the Light Novel! Also, and IDK if they will manage to adapt this from the LN to the anime, everything is narrated in first person, so information known to the narrator, like the MC, is unknown to us the reader until she actually says it (for example, lets say she magically gets a piece of info of some kind; there is no "this is what I just learned, let's hear a third person narrator summarize all of this information so that both ma and the reader are up to par": if there is context for her to reveal that information to us, she will; if there isn't, she won't. A good example would be the classical moment where the MCs would discover the political landscape of the region and explain it to us; this series very rarelly does that). Also, Spider-Girl is funny AF, at least to me :D The ending is the best representation of her character, no doubt :D So, to those that are kind on the defense about it, and don't know if they want to see the rest, I say stick to it a bit longer, if they do their job right, this series as TONS of potential! If they botch the animation, just read the LN, it's one of the smoothest reading experiences I've ever had! P.S. Mandatory "English is not my first language" disclaimer :P

This anime surprised me. I didn't expect much, but it looks like it might be a fun unique isekai. A rare sight now of days However the CGI could use A LOT of work

So I'm a Spider, So What? > Reincarnated as a Slime I was watching and reading Slime, I really liked the story and settings, it was a departure of the generic Isekai tropes of OP protagonist and stupid girls falling for them (harem), with more concentration on leveling up and country building. The problems started went I notice that the main character (Rimuru) did not really struggle with anything, everything went his way, there was no conflict that he struggled to resolve or any character that did not like the slime immediately. In the beginning arc, he immediately got a power up from one of the most powerful beings in that world. In the dwarf city arc, he just arrived but immediately left with the BEST blacksmiths of that place. As he was building his city, he "outsmarted" (in such a stupid way) one of the most powerful demon lords (that later became his friend). Later he meet the master of all guilds (who was also an outworlder) and Rimuru sharing some knowledge of present day Japan made him regard Rimuru as "master". Also all important female characters in this series fall for Rimuru, so he has a harem as well; just when I thought Slime was above that. Spider on the other hand is also departure from the generic Isekai tropes such as OP protagonist, by showing how the protagonist (Kumoko) grows stronger through her struggles and the relationship she later forms with different characters. I will not go into details because of spoilers, but all I can say is that Kumoko is a much more interesting character to watch than Rimuru; now....if only the production team use the blend of CG/2D more effectively so that we may actually see what is going on when the action is happening (similar to how Demon Slayer blended CG/2D more effectively) To summaries in just a short sentence, Spider is BETTER than Slime, because Kumoko struggles, while Rimuru does not.

Kumo desu ga is one of, if not THE best Isekai story I know. Deathmage being a close second. So even if you don't like the animations for this, do yourself a favor and read the manga and/or LN. It's a great story. There isn't a good vs bad and the MC is one of the two. It's overall pretty nuanced, the characters make actual choices and sacrifices and you can emphasis with almost all parties involved. Unlike stories like Slime (which is a fun story in it's own right) it doesn't put the MC into a position of power right in the start and goes from there. The premise of Slime allows for more group and state building, whereas Spider is a more personal journey in the beginning. And that's my one worry with the anime, is that we never get to the really good parts. Because the beginning for Spider is fun to watch, but also very different to the later parts and also quite long. Which is fine in a written story, but might cause issues with anime (for example no second season). Going into slight SPOILERS, I'll try to avoid it though, but read at your own discretion. Just the fact that there is an explanation later on why there even is a game system is good. The actual implementation is brilliant and ties in really well into both world building and even stronger into the characters and their motivations. And after the world building that is the second strong point of the story: The characters. Take Kumoko for example. In the beginning she's a mostly happy-go-lucky kinda girl that even with the overall pretty shit situation she finds herself in is overall very optimistic. Then she learns some very serious stuff which the reader only learns about waaay later and it puts the entire story and choices into perspective (kinda like it was in FF10). But even with that knowledge she doesn't really loose her optimism. Kinda spoiler but not really: As is the case with many Isekai stories, there's a conflict Humans vs Demons. Because of that very serious, very depressing stuff she learned, Kumoko doesn't really choose a side. Until she learns the motivations and backstory of one of the leaders. At which point her motivations change. She basically says: "Well, the world is fucked and I'm depressed, but I like you and I feel sorry for you. So I'm going to do everything in my power to make your dream come true." And because there is no real good vs evil, even said leader isn't quite sure if their actions are right or how things will end. So Kumoko has the addendum of "Even if you hate me for what I do." It's heartbreaking and warming at the same time. I actually dropped the LN at a certain point. Not because it was bad, but because of a lot of Mind Control going on. And it was so unnerving to me, that I felt ill and simply couldn't read. I picked it up later and soldiered through. Way later in the story that Mind Control part gets a very different spin, with even more Mind Control. That was actually fun, weird as it is. Still unnerving, but fun. So yeah, watch it, read it, whatever it is, but don't miss out on this story. It's good. Really, really good.
