Word of advice guys.. Research how the decibel scale works, it's a logarithmic scale... The difference between 81 and 82 decibels, is WAY quiter than 82-83 etc

Love the noises on i30N. Looks pretty good too. MK7.5 R to me has gone really soft in terms of the looks. MK6 and 7 were better.

The clear winner is the i30 N for certain. it sounds amazing, its fun to drive and comes with all the equipment you ever need as standard. You guys are comparing a 28k i30 N against a 38k golf r. 10k is a big amount of cash... you need to consider price vs performance.

List price maybe. On most finance deals the Hyundai is somehow the same price/more expensive! Which is why you never see any on the road I guess, because nobody in their right mind would pay that for a Hyundai.

Hey Luke. I don't know if you know this. But if you turn traction control off. It removes the rev limiter when in park. Might help you a bit more with the Exhaust rev challenge.

What a day we live in where we are comparing a Hyundai to a Volkswagen, yet here we are. I absolutely love my i30N. Got it in Polar White with the part-leather seats and panoramic sunroof (which does add a bit of weight). Looking at increasing the power and torque at the moment to at least 300HP+ and 450Nm+.

Two great cars, both of which featured high on my wishlist. For UK road use (re: wet) the Golf R is going to be miles faster, but the i30N got my vote because it is a fabulous track car that I found to be more fun to drive. Both are awesome though!

Slight bug bare of mine. The I30 N needs to get into 3rd gear to get to 60/62 mph, so it actually has relatively shorter gears than the R. It's a shame because, if the cars gears were 5% longer and it maxed at 62 or 63 mph in 2nd gear it would be sub 5.2 seconds to 60. I think this explains the 0-60 times in my seat leon fr 1.8 mapped to 233hp. Because the gears are longer (2nd gear goes up to 66mph) I can do a 0-60 time of 5.4 seconds with PS4 tyres as well. Interesting. I hope they could potentially tweak the ratios a bit.

Great video. I am slightly biased as I own an I30N but to even mention a car made by Hyundai in the same sentence as Golf R’s etc is a testament to how good this car is. Give it a remap (or tuning box as I have) and and extra £400-500 brings you up to the 300bhp mark and 450 odd NM torque. Keep up the rear work you’re doing with the videos👍

@@royalstevep68 You missed the obvious. Point is the i30 N is a lot cheaper than a Golf R and you don't need to spend more than £500 to get it to the same power output. You'd have to spend a few thousand on a Golf R to get it track worthy like the N. Suspension is to soft, brakes fade faster than a red cloth in a washing machine, sway bars aren't adequate for track use...oh, and VW actively searches your social media to void their warranty if you so much as take it near a track.

Good Job! Somehow ithink the i30 looks cooler than GTI/R's on the back, and thats coming from a GTI Clubsport owner! But maby ill change my mind tomorow.. The GTI/R's are extremely perfected in design, and it is very hard to get tired of them if you see how refined they are though!

@@kermitthefrogg123 MK7 GTI CS or R should beat Mustang V8's & such from stock yes. If u tune a normal GTI shod be good as well. I raced a Mustang on the streets just 2-3 days ago, and i basically had to brake not to drive into the poor thing... I also smoked a Big Tesla But yes some people just dont dare there was a curve downhill which was so easy for the Clubsports XDS+ Diffrential to handle in 90 mph.. Much trickier in a 2 ton Tesla.. Lol, GTI Clubsport also pushes 100 % of power to the front wheels, so.. Lol 😆 👍

I feel the MK7 in general is an all around better car/chassis than the rest of the competition but Hyundai really stepped their game up and are definitely what to watch over the next few years. Both are great options. VW for a more subdued and luxurious experience and Hyundai is a more flashy yet well performing option. I’d love to see a club sport GTI vs an I30N. I think that’d be a better comparison but nonetheless this is a pretty good comparison.

The challenge's are so unfair the viewers choice and acceleration tests are basically a 2-0 head start for the golf r straight away......why not do like a pull at 60 mph.......is it you know your get beaten every time.....or which car is the least common........it's just like you putting other hot hatches down.......and the power to weight ratio.......really who give's a !!!!!!! Come on do some fair tests not always in the poxy golfs favour

VW have serious engine issues thou u gotta top up engine oil plus engine problem is well known. Bad maintenance high cost. Hydunai I30N on the other hand much better reliabilty quality 7 yrs of warrenty and better price good performance. Hyundai wins.

Jason Lawrence Golf R Mk 7.5 has the virtual dash too mate. And I’m sure the S3 would put a smile on my face, and I’m sure it’s a lovely car. But the Golf R also fits both of those descriptions. That’s the dilemma, they are almost identical cars. A full in-depth 1v1 comparison is what I need.

I30n hooked up well off the line. Very impressive. 18mpg is truly aweful though haha no wonder the front tyres lasted 3k miles! worth mentioning this is a competitor to the golf gti rather than an R. Maybe pit ur R against that see how close it is to the i30n? Another great comparison though. Keep it going

I suggest measuring R's sound with launch control on :) Should be a difference. Mine with Akrapovic doesn't even open valves in the exhaust until it's driving.. :)

In australia it comes in a red, white, baby bluish mat, gun metal grey metalic and a grey matt (like the audi grey). The blue looks really cool in person and definitely didn't appeal at first via videos, until I saw it in real life.

You are wrong about your weight for the Golf R. Stock with DSG has the weight of 1525 which will make your power to weight ratio about 196bhp per ton.

I seriously doubt that Hyundai is going to produce a hatch back with 400hp......but if they do that is going to be insane lol be quite interesting how they are going to price it.....there Genesis coupe sports cars couldnt even get over 350hp and they dont even make them anymore

@@terrellduncan92 There have been no announcements of such sort. Hyundai just announced the Tucson N which will have around 300hp from the 2.0l engine. They are working on a halo car which could either be a hybrid drivetrain or a full electric sportscar, but no official news about what it will be and it certainly won't be an i30. So far the only N cars that are officially announced are the Kona N, the i20 N and the Tucson N. The Genesis Coupé predates the N program, so it's pretty much irrelevant to what hp they will or won't make. Nevertheless, the Genesis G80 Sport gets 365 hp from the 3.3l V6, so well over 350hp. ;)

To be fair, the Golf R shouldn't even be compared to the i30N. It has AWD and his car is also a DSG and not a manual. Superior all round performance and better traction.

Could you possibly put your Golf R up against a Leon Cupra or GTI Performance? These are the three cars I’m debating about. Really enjoying the series and content on this channel! Keep it up! 👍

I'm a bit late but its a good video😂 I'm 22 and looking at these cars, I think for some people, the insurance will be a killer for the golf. I've been quoted £3k for the golf and just £650 for the i30n

Price difference between the two - you'd expect the Golf R to win being 25% more expensive. Also the i30N does use less fuel than the Golf R in almost every real life test I've seen - measured at the pump and not through the electronics.

It’s not that expensive to get insured on these as young drivers. Work a good paying job and it’s more than affordable. I30n for me is £1500 on insurance with 2 years NCD and the golf R is about £2500. Finance options are £400 a month on average for these cars so total outgoings is £500-600 a month. If you don’t live off mummy and daddy and you work like you should this isn’t out of your reach. I’m 19 and will be getting the I30n next year if not I’d be getting a TTRS if I can afford it

Wheelspin in the golf r on dry surface may indicate a problem with the haldex. A friend of mine owns golf r 7 in white and his haldex pump went and it turned his car into a golf r 2wd 😂

Golf r is more expensive. There is no difference in price-performance ratio. The i30n is a more fun car that sounds good and makes people flutter even though the speed is slower.

The i30 N is basically a GTI with stage 2 and on steroids 😂 at least that’s how I see it.

I'd still pick the hyundai i30N performance. It's hyundai's first try whereas the golf has a long line of heritage that it has learnt from which in time hyundai will too.
