loved the video bro. I catch all my lakers on the vertical tube jig anywhere between 3/4oz to 4oz jigs. I love the color of those lakers, so vibrant! Keep up the awesome vids

Nice - I've heard that tubes work well for these guys but I haven't tried them yet. Thanks and will do!

Wow. Nice lake you have man, Every lake Round Where i am, are all "Basically" Privately Owned. Besides that Little Itty Bitty public Boat Lauch the Fish And Game Provide 😂 Basically Bank Fisherman got no chance.

Thanks! Yeah this lake is pretty awesome. There's not a ton of bank access here either, there is some though. And it's a big lake so even what access there is can be very hit or miss. Although very glad to have it, especially in the winter when it's too cold for the kayak.

We have a raft we use to get out deep, but that even looks funner!

It’s definitely fun, but a raft sounds cool too though!

For the keitech what jighead are you using? I'm having a hard time finding decent 1oz jigheads, hooks keep bending out. Also let me know if you are up for having anyone join you, I fish Cayuga weekly on my Hobie. Also, I've been having a lot of success using elias' larger 4.5" swimbaits not just with lakers but browns and rainbows

Hey JP - So I have the same issue actually. Right now I'm using Cabela's 1 oz jig heads and they bend pretty easily, fortunately they are pretty cheap though. And yeah for sure, I'd def like to get out there with ya. I probably won't have much time in the next week or two with family and work obligations, but once the the week of Monday 9/12 rolls around my I'll start getting out there again. Also because of my work/family schedule I can only fish week days. Thanks for the tip about the 4.5 Elias baits too.

Hey JP - I’m most likely going out on Cayuga (weather depending but it looks okay so far) either this Thursday or Friday. Probably out of Meyers or Taughannock. If you’re free wanna come out?

@@rem_fishing sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I've been out a few times this winter from meyers with ok success. I'm waiting for the next day with light wind to get back out.

Hi I live in Oswego New York not to far from the finger lakes and was wondering if you had any tips for me on how to catch more lake trout like lure size and what speeds to fish them. You’re doing a good job Keep up the awesome videos

Thank you! That's much appreciated. If you go to the channel page and watch some of the more recent Laker videos, there's some info about that in them. Otherwise it's kind of a lot to type. Good luck out there and thanks for watching!

Fantastic video! The water is like glass which is great. I used to fish Seneca a lot and many lakers had scars on them. Now I fish Keuka and don't see many scars at all. A fair amount of yours had scars or a lamprey still attached unfortunately. What lake is that you were fishing?
@rem_fishing
@rem_fishing 9 месяцев назад
Thanks Joe! This is Cayuga. This video is from spring of 2022, this year I've seen less lampreys than last.

What fish finder are you using? If you could do it again would you get the same one?

I'm using the Lowrance Hook Reveal 5x SS. I like most of the features and feel like it was generally worth the money, but I made one mistake when I bought. The "x" in 5x means that it doesn't come with any bundled mapping, and I thought that I could just put a Navionics card in later if I wanted to without paying for the Lowrance maps at the time of purchase. What I DIDN"T realize (and Lowrance doesn't make this all that clear on their website) is that not only does the "x" model not come with mapping - it's NOT COMPATIBLE with any third party mapping cards (like Navionics) that you might want to add later. I was pretty annoyed when I did buy a Navionics card later on and found this out. If the Lowrance website had made this clear in a more obvious way (which they should!) I would have spent more for a mapping card compatible unit. Too late though now. BUT - otherwise, I like this a lot. It's very accurate, durable, and the menus are fairly intuitive. I really like the split screen feature.

Nice vid man, dont throw those dead lamprey back though, probably the best pike dead bait that you can use 👊

I really enjoy your videos. Like you I make every attempt to assist the fish in recovery after catching them. If a fish swallows a hook deep do not try to pull it out. Cut the line closest to the hook or lure. The fish has a better chance of survival. No more than three minutes out of water. I can't tell you how many fish videos have the fish out of the water for long periods. Catch, take your photo, then get the fish back in the water. Some species may vary on that method. I also see a trend of fisherman throwing the fish back in the water. Are there any Fisheries Biologists who can comment on that? We should all have an appreciation for this wonderful resource.

Thanks! And all good advice in my opinion too. Sometimes - and it depends on the species and the water temp - plunging a fish into the water forcefully (which can look rather brutal) is actually more beneficial as it causes water, and therefore oxygen, to rush through the fishes gills rapidly. Which may help them get going again more quickly than holding them by the tail in the water and waiting for them to swim off.

I don't generally fish for them that way, but I'd guess a #2 hook would be good though. Maybe smaller or bigger though depending on the size of the shiners.

you need to really set the hook for those big lakers they have a tough mouth you will lose alot less
@rem_fishing
@rem_fishing Год назад
Thanks. I think that you're definitely right when you hook them on bottom - gotta really rip it into them. But sometimes I've found that when they hit it on the vertical retrieve, they will kinda set it on themselves by grabbing it on their way up and then trying to swim back down right away. In that scenario I have often yanked it out of their mouth by pulling too hard.

I really like your videos but I don't like seeing you throw the fish so it plunges in the water so hard. You have a great nack for catching them just seems unnecessary to throw them .
