RIDICULOUSLY FAT TROUT! Big Hungry Browns Smashing Plugs!

Another day on the Finger Lakes. Worked a different section of the lake with brown trout as the main target. Fishing was pretty good on this day although still a challenge to track down the brownies. I got one fish jigging but switched to the troll when the going got tough. Rounded out the day jigging a couple of nice lake trout.

Thats a beautiful lake, I know what you mean about everything in nature having its own place. Those brown trout were straight up obese!

I fish Cayuga regularly, the 2nd fish was likely a landlock Atlantic salmon. There is a decent population in Cayuga and they can be hard to tell from a brown trout. Key is Atlantics have a shorter mouth (e.g. small mouth vs large mouth bass), don't have spots on the adipose fin (the top fin closest to tail), and the base of the tail is smaller (you can easily get your hand around it). They also have a slightly forked tail. Having said all of that it can be really tough sometimes to tell them apart. Only true way is to look in the mouth at the upper teeth. Atlantics have one row of small teeth down the center browns have two rows. Great fish either way and one of my favorite lakes.

I agree. Would’ve liked a better look at the tail.

Dude you crushed those trout without really going with traditional methods! That’s why I browse through RU-vid because every guy has a preference for the area they fish but there’s those out there like you that cross the bass tackle over to trout and crush em. I’m just taking in as much info as I can then mold it all into success on the water, hopefully.

I grew up in the finger lakes region. I went to school. In Ithaca. I never once thought about kayak fishing. I’ve only ever caught pan fish. Can’t wait to try trolling with spoons and yozuri lures. Thanks so much. Ever fish Canandaigua?

My RN that comes here was watching your video about lake trout the other day with me. She loved it. Said she had just got back from vacation, where they were fishing for Lakers also, but caught none. She watched where you said to fish anywhere from 50 feet to 70 feet deep for them. She said thank you for info, that they had only been fishing up to about 30 feet deep. -

That is some absolutelly beautiful Brown trout! You are very lucky to have access to such fishing spots! I allso find it funny (not sarcasme) you call those "lake trout", we call them "charr", since they're not closelly related to trout. Keep these awsome videos coming! Love from Norway

If you fish the Finger Lakes and Lake Ontario they are known as FOOTBALL Browns(not Cleveland}. The gobies are all over and that is why our Smallmouth are often 5lbs now rather than 2 lbs when I was younger

Willie Evans yeah. We launched way at the north end the other day. Fished for about five hours. Pulled in 12 lakers, nothing of great size. Lost a big one. Absolutely no browns on the top lines. Everything came off the very bottom. It was our first time fishing cayuga.

Yea high humidity is a killer the heat I can handle but humidity takes it out of you I work in roofing construction it’s gets hot so if I’m not working 90s don’t bother me as much as others people will always be like man it’s hot and I’ll be like oh it’s not too bad but then again the roof gets you another 10 to 15 degrees hotter than regular ground and then finding shade makes a huge difference direct sun is worse of course

Just found your channel in the last week or so. Really enjoying your videos. I'm a terrible angler. Well, to use the word "angler" is probably a huge stretch actually. The videos are great. Keep it up! PS: I live in the Finger Lakes region. Which lake is this?
@tinkmarshino
@tinkmarshino 4 года назад
the fattest trout I have caught constantly are browns and brookies.. BUt that brown you caught was an aberration! man that was something.. big ole hump and a belly the size of rhode island.. f-4 flatfish evening in the late summer, early fall.. especially for mac's know them boys silly out here in the pacific northwest..You got some real nice browns.. Lemolo lake down in the southern part of ORegon by diamond lake has some huge browns.. They wanted to make that a trophy brown lake but it is a reservoir and the lake level changes to much to give browns a chance to get record size.. But I know the spot where the big browns hang and can catch those size all day.. it is a lot of fun though I have not been sown there in about 20 years.. thanks for the share Elias.. we are waiting for a snow storm and I am getting anxious to get back fishing so these are get "fix" videos.. carry on and I want to tell you I truly appreciate your hard work to make these happen.

Hey Elias, some of your older videos you were using a catch bag that hung off the side of the kayak and was a netting material with a big peice of velcro at the top.. It was made by a local NE guy. I can't find the video or the product. Do you know what i'm talking about? It may have been John Skinners videos. I'm not sure.

Those where all nice trout man is there ever a skunk day for Elias my Lord well I guess you wouldn’t be uploading a skunk day huh lol might not be as interesting as catching great fish love all your catch and cooks brother your definitely one of my favorite fishing channels mainly because your always catching something new or switching it up I can’t stand to see largemouth bass anymore I don’t get excited for them great fish and they can get pretty big but too many people target nothing more than largemouth for sport and it bores me to death let’s do some real fishing guys

I lived in Seneca Falls for 4 years. We used to catch the smelt during the spawn. Caught a few large Walleye but never a Lake Trout or Brown trout that size. I wonder if they were there 45 years ago. Were you fishing the north end of the lake from the west shore?

Good to finally see someone who _keeps_ the FOOD they harvested, instead of spending a lot of time and money for the purpose of _tormenting_ the food and then throwing it back (to _possibly_ survive). There were times when I was so damn poor that if I did not fish, I did not eat that day. I learned that Carp is delicious when properly prepared (cut into chunks, breaded, and fried!), and can be _very_ easy to catch --- a hundred-plus pound stringer of them when _no one_ else was catching _anything_ (hint: they are absolutely addicted to frozen corn nibblets!) And, a 35 lb. carp that will _easily_ snap 20 lb monofilament _can_ be landed on *_8 lb_* line -- if one is patient, and lets that submerged Sherman Tank tire itself out -- pull up with rod, quickly reel in line as lowering rod, pull up rod, repeat until the next run, and wait for the drag to stop spinning, then repeat. Eventually, your arm will be aching, and your fish will be slid up on shore. I digress. I love trout. It is delicious. I used to ride my motorcycle into the country (Michigan), then climb down to a tiny brook (spots were so narrow I could cross it in a single step), where I'd catch a nice mess of native brookies, just-legal size, and _delicious_ when cleaned (one slit to cut out the innards, cut out the gills, rinse under the faucet, and then fry in butter -- do NOT scale them, do NOT remove the head!). Ah, memories... Old age sucks. Enjoy your youth while you have it, and do NOT take your health for granted! You never know when you may lose it in a heartbeat (in my case, courtesy of a doped-up driver in an Olds 98 who rammed my Chevette -- she was doing 45 MPH and I was stopped behind a car at an intersection -- ended my life as a "bigtime" computer consultant (making $60/hr in mid-1980s dollars, so do the math as to what that'd be now) -- and here I am, health wrecked, "living" on Social Security, and pissing and moaning about it in a comment on a fishing channel. :)
