I have a library hold on this one, but there are so many people ahead of me I'll likely get it around Xmas. At the earliest. I've been wondering if I should cave and buy it. You just saved me that money! Sounds like a book that can definitely wait.
I like that Gore and the expedition he was on , we’re real historical events / character. The first half of this book was great. I can see this being adapted to tv/ film. When it turned into a thriller it lost me. I’d like the characters around Gore to be fleshed out more. Would people who have been dragged from 17th, 18th, 20th century; adapt that quickly??
I didn’t know it was based on a real historical figure! I think this could work really well adapted for TV. Agree that the supporting characters needed fleshing out more 👍🏻
I keep seeing this around and I was intrigued by the blurb. I want to work for that Department 🕵🏼♂️ May pick it up later after all the Booker Books. I find first books can be over ambitious, as I think writers are trying to show all their writing skill in one story and then it can get confusing for me.
Fair assessment. I also, if I rated, would say a 3 star but I think I enjoyed it a little more than you. Great premise, meandered too much in the middle and tried a bit too hard to do too many things. Would read this author again though.
I've heard such mixed things about this. Not a fan of romance or smut either-- and I've heard it would've been better w/o the romance. I've got it on reserve at the library and the queue for it is miles long, so it'll be a while before I see whether it's hot or not for me.
I would agree that the whole romance subplot could have been left out. You’ll have to let me know what you think of it when you make it to the front of the queue ☺️
