@Eva-cn2bu

@Ronnie Burgess I wrote that because I find docking horse's tail so severely extremely cruel and completely unnecessary (otherwise it wouldn't have be banned) and expressed that in such a comment. If you find that trolling, you're the last person here to tell people what to do. And your life doesn't seem too passionate either if you spend it reading comments with the replies and take your precious time to write an absolutely clichéd reply

I had opportunity to plow with 3 different teams at Michigan state university several years ago. Early in the day, so they were fresh and ready. Owners gave me a run of names an calls, stop them if mud builds up on feet an scrape it off. [foot may settle crooked an twist ankle] Face rear with shoulder leaning on leg, light grab over the hoof and I jacked up a horse easier than lifting a gallon of milk. They could be Service Dogs for Giants. *** 6 year olds were driving teams in the afternoon with a guide walking 10-20 feet behind. Magic day,

ok people.. before you ask a question like "does this hurt the horse?" try reading the comment section first ^^; Sending a nail through a horses outer hoof is like laying your finger down on a chunk of wood upside down, then pushing a needle through the part of your finger nail that hangs off your finger. cutting their hooves is exactly the same as cutting our finger nails, so they feel no pain if you are doing it right!
@hopegreen8729
@hopegreen8729 6 лет назад
frogbear02 without the shoes on this size of a horse it would hurt much more than getting the shoes put on I don’t own a draft horse and I don’t put shoes on my horses because I don’t take them out on trails or rocks or concrete so no need for shoes these draft horses more than likely pull carts which is very bad for the horse without shoes they may feel some pain but without the shoes the pain would be much worse

I had an 18.3 2,000 pound Percheron for a hobby horse, that I rode. I found he would break the drawn clips off the front feet in two weeks, he was so strong and powerful. I went to welded on clips and they would last thru two or three resettings. There was only one farrier in Michigan that had them, because he welded them up for the draft owners.

The nails bent up at the start was new to me too. I've only ever seen then through the hoof and bent down towards the shoe. (Saw first hand why the smart move is to do one at a time as well. Hoof down farriers leg with the nail not clipped, 40 stitches need to close the gash in the farriers calf).

I don't know a lot about horses, but I'm guessing they need to be tied to prevent from being kicked (although it does look bad) an animal this size could surely kill you, but it doesn't seem to upset them. They are beautiful...question-why do these horses not have tails? Just curious.

They do crop the tails traditionally on working animals in case they get caught up in equipment. Some people regard it as cruel because it prevents the horse from being able to swat at biting flies and other insects. And one of the main reasons for the tying of the hooves on big drafts like this one is because holding up their massive hooves would tire anyone's back out pretty quickly!
@julsrobertson5177
@julsrobertson5177 8 лет назад
FlowingDepths Yes, all makes sense.Too bad though they have to keep their tails SOOO short, you'd think there would be something to repel flies...they are discusting pests.I love to watch just about anything that is 'hand-crafted', I make stained glass windows~everything is done by hand.

Since it's a draft horse and bigger than a thoroughbred or a pony it will get tiring for the farrier and they're very powerful horses hense the tying the hooves at some point and I'm sure they teach the horse that it won't hurt them from a young age so the horse won't balk or kick and the farrier has to keep a eye on the horses body movement and ear movement.

I've watched a number of these videos. The farriers are quite skilled. But it bothers me to see the "hammer and knife" routine used almost universally. A set of hoof nippers would eliminate all that hammering, be quicker, be accepted by the horse better, give better results, and be less work for the farriers. Hammer and knife work comes from the 12th century. This is 2020. Hoof nippers don't cost that much, and even if they did, these farriers are skilled enough with a forge to make some of their own. Hammer and knife are still viable for the frog. All I can understand from this is that the European farriers are stuck in the 12th century. Not a good place to be, especially for the horses. Get, (or make), some hoof nippers guys. Your horses will love you. Your wives will appreciate your "extra" energy at the end of the day. YOU will appreciate the increased ease of your job. And, you can see and take care of more clients.

So horseshoes are like tires for our cars
@SvshiButt
@SvshiButt 8 лет назад
Samuel Duval not really. tires are necessary. Shoes aren't.

actually they are a necessity for quite a few disciplines in the equestrian world. ie: driving horses, it would chew up a horse's foot to go down a dirt road with rocks or on a asphalt road, also their are horses that have chalky or flaky feet and need them until the foot grows to a better quality and then there are horses that have long standing conditions like navicular which require shoes to maintain their quality of life.

Dia Allen shoes aren't necessary for all horses. I've seen driving horses and show horses without shoes. It depends on the horse. Not all of them need them

never in the post did I say all horses..in fact I mentioned many specific instances. and I don't know any people who drive in traffic that don't shoe. fyi: there are several associations here in North texas for drivers, my parents were racehorse trainers and we also rodeoed. so I have been around the block a time or two. maybe you should actually read before you comment. you are right, there are horses that do not need shoes however I was giving examples of one's that DO.

Dia Allen I did read xD but thanks. And you gave examples where shoes also AREN'T necessary. Basically it's just your opinion.
