In this video I go hot tent camping in a blizzard! This was my first time hot tent camping in a blizzard like this. The weather forecast called for 12 inches (30 cm) of snow and wind gusts of 40-50 mph (64-80 kph). I hiked through knee deep snow for two miles (3.2 km) to reach my camp. It took nearly 3 hours with the bad weather! When I arrived at the lake I found it was frozen over and the wind was absolutely howling! I set up my new Ankhiale Outdoors Zeta 1 hot tent and hunkered down for the night. The wind and snow only got worse through the night and into the morning. This was an incredibly windy trip and I'm glad my hot tent kept me safe! I hope you enjoy this crazy video!

@@8Throtl1 I believe the point is that it’s good for our mental health to challenge ourselves in what ever way works for us. @@user-zw3bg9vr5g I was really impressed with his gear, but the first question that came to my mind was, “What weight was his pack?” Having a buddy along would have lightened the load a little. I did enjoy the blizzard sounds, but I think I would have enjoyed a little talking. I couldn’t have done it without talking. And after all that, I think I would have stayed at least 2 nights. Over all.. 👍🏻👍🏻 Hike on!

I am amazed that one person can carry all of that equipment and make a comfortable dwelling to spend the night in. The little wood burning stove is a marvellous piece of compact design. Then the camper leaves the area without a visible trace of a human having been there (except for basic needs). Thanks so much for sharing your adventure!

When I was younger, I used to really enjoy snow camping! I had a small but sturdy three-person, four-season tent suitable for blizzards. It was roomy with just two people and came with a perfectly-sized vestibule for donning/doffing boots and outer garments and letting them dry out overnight. I learned that finding the right gear doesn't require a large budget. Even today, I wouldn't break $1,500 for everything I own, tents, camping gear and clothes, as I bought most of it used. My favorite tent is three-season, but with a full rain fly. I used it for snow camping many times as it sets up in literally minutes, about five, including stakes. My wife and I set it up in the pouring rain with high winds. That time, I think I managed to get it up in less than three minutes. In solo survival situations, I prefer to use a bivy sack sleeping system, as I can use it both inside a tent and on its own. One time, when the temp dropped to -18 deg F, I said, "To heck with the tent!" and just dived into the system and slumbered away.

@@paulgargulak8275 earth around the stove (if snow is shallow enough) will thaw a bit and allow melt to go into ground in the first inch or two. I remember my first deep snow camping we was 16 years old my friend and I layed of of school in February in Metro Atlanta and took off to the chattooga river burls ford not a cloud in the sky when we went to bed, frozen by morning the tent was caved in and it snowed 2 feet over night, never seen snow over 6 inches until then. Everything is the camp was lost dug it all out built a big fire and moved the tent under a big hemlock. our gallon of milk, and canned food was frozen solid. we heated up rocks too stay warm at night with, and camped for about 5 days. It was alsome.

I love to hear winter winds. If I cant get away to sleep in an old cabin I built with my best friend back in the 80's in the worst of winter I will set up a shelter in my back yard on the worst of the winter nights where I live. There is something primeval about howling winter winds.

I like that you guys can go outside in the wilderness and enjoy your life! Here in Germany it isnt allowed, only if you know the owner of an private forest and he allowed it. Here you only can sleep in the woods in a emergency situation at hiking but only without tent and campfire. Just for sleeping a few hours.. god save america and his lucky people 😅

I would have enjoyed doing this, when I was younger, but either without the 50mph wind gusts, or inside something more substantial than the tent. It appeared a little more risky than I would like, with the wind and with the wood heater and the long stove pipe through the tent, with that wind. I am happy you made it with no major difficulties. Thanks for the interesting video.

Wow, watching you put up your tent in the snow and wind and dealing with your little stove brought back memories of my unit deploying as IFOR to Croatia, then returning 6 months later as SFOR, to Bosnia! Those tents had the wind whipping underneath them, and the snow! We'd heat water on our potbelly stoves and drink instant coffee and ramen noodles that our families sent us in CARE packages. What fun. As others mentioned, thank you for not having stupid music or needless talking, but just natural sounds. This is the first video I've seen of yours; I'm now a subscriber and telling my son and hubby to watch your video and sign up as well. Awesome video!

I did this years ago back in the 1980’s. I was trying to meet up with my unit in the field. All I had was my basic military equipment. I camped at a 3 way intersection for a few days until my food ran out and then I hiked about 15 miles to where I thought my unit might be. I actually lucked out and found them. I got very lucky. Winds were so high that it collapsed a few GP mediums on top of the troops. It was so damn cold that you could see clear through the other side of the oil heaters. I’m damn lucky.
