Camping out for the night on the years coldest night so far. Just stayed in the yard to test the set up in extreme cold before using it in the bush. -33 degrees Celsius.

Thank you so much for what you do! I am a former U.S. Marine with combat-related PTSD, and am currently battling pancreatic cancer. I say this not for pity, but letting you know I live vicariously through you and some other outdoor adventurers since I'm not able to be outdoors in the wild anymore. Your channel helps me relax so much! I do think I could handle camping with you and Crazy Neighbor, however. So if you want a third party, let me know brother! Lol. When i lived in Russia we had a house outside the city which did not have any plumbing or any way of heating it up other than the stove/furnace made out of bricks (not really sure how to translate it correctly!). Anyway my dad and I used to go there in winter (about -30C) and heat up the house. It would take awhile, maybe a few hours to heat up the whole house. We would go to the forest to collect firewood. i used to really enjoy the whole process, especially cooking some food once its warm! :)

Hey Steve, that poor hand! I know that burn hurt. Here's an old trick my husband learned working in restaurants, and I've used it many times throughout the years too. If you get burned, put mustard on the burn immediately. The cold of the mustard will stop the skin damage, and the vinegar draws the heat out. You'll see the area of mustard directly over the burn dry out while the skin around still has wet mustard on it. That means it's working and helping. Just rinse with cool water and reapply. I realize this video is 3 years old but I'm sure that, playing with fire as much as you do, you're gonna get burned again. Be careful and take care!
@MrSkinnyWhale

Ice cube applied directly to burn. If it still hurts when the cube is melted, Apply another, and another. Keep it directly on burn. You must do it right away. It works to stop the pain and prevent a wet blister that pops and hurts for days.

I'm a new subscriber but I'm over 50 in the USA. Long story short I lived with Lakota (First Nations) in South Dakota and I asked one of the oldest people in the village told me that Tipis were actually warmer than reservation houses today. Your ice tent confirms this. They would have had all animal skins and lodge pole pines with a fire place in the middle. They used buffalo "chips" as fuel mostly. I met some of their Lakota relatives that came down for a visit from Brandon, Manitoba. So, Lakotas are in both 🇨🇦 and 🇺🇲

Went hot tent camping a few weeks back. Never had a wood stove in tent before. I watched a number of your videos to get some pointers. Two days and two nights went off without a hitch, my hot tent did get very toasty, some smoke because I had to stoke the fire every few. Wasnt bad though. The night got to 20 f and rained like noahs flood, was happy warm and dry watching movies on my tablet with a fire going in the tent. was a very peaceful sleep. was so warm I slept in shorts and t-shirt on my cot without my sleeping bag. Not much different than sleeping in my house. In most cases, wood is free , if they dont see you chopping it inside the tent haha at a camp ground where you have to bring in your own wood.

Y-ME Farm - How much do you need to put up for a winter? I know it can be different year to year, but how much would be enough for you to feel good about things? When I built my house I’d planned on all wood heat, but at the end I got a big propane tank too - more of a concession to my wife that we weren’t 100% tied to wood. I love that phrase “wood heats you twice, once when you split it and again when you burn it.” It heats me like six times - cutting the tree, dragging it out of wherever if I have to, sawing rounds, splitting it, stacking it, etc.! Still love it.

Awesome video, I like camping in a tent in COLD WEATHER, I have a G-Stove all stainless that thing blows you out of a 20 x 20 x 8‘ ceiling tent , The tent is probably about 65 plus years old (Oil Dipped canvas tent) my grandfather used when he went up to Canada hunting back in the 50s and early 60s, I believe the tent must weigh at least 250 pounds easy, we pull it up on our 4 x 4‘ ATV’s in a trailer, it takes 4 grown men to set it up, but it stays up for 5 weeks during hunting season, Well thanks again for the video, it is nice to see someone else out there enjoying the great outdoors in the winter months and freezing, his ass off also...!!!
