Great video, with concrete advice! I recently had an endoscopy procedure and a discrepancy was found. The sample was sent to pathology for a biopsy. During that time I went to my collection room, sat down and appreciated what I currently have. I also looked at my preorders and thought to myself, I could be in a much different place pending on my results. My collection makes me happy when I look at it, repose figures and photograph them. It’s better to live in the moment, then to wait for happiness in the future

I've only gotten back into collecting a year ago after a 7 year hiatus but it feels like not only is Hot Toys announcing more figures this year than what I saw 12-16 months ago, they're looking better and they're characters I want. It was hard to look at the entire Ahsoka line and only pre-order Ahsoka (white) and Thrawn. I sat on the idea of Baylan and Shin for a couple months but then Hot Toys announced bangers like Superior Spidey, Han Solo, Jack Sparrow, Maul, Revan, Loki, Sidious, etc. and I had to sadly pass on the former 2. I feel like I'm having to get far more particular about what figures I truly want. This is probably good for the hobby because it makes me care more about what I'm buying. If Hot Toys announces 25 figures per year, I'm likely to buy something I don't care about.

Great video. Months ago my collecting habit changed. Because of the points you make in this video. I collect mostly starwars and also some batman fig. (With only one spider-man 😊) ive collected over 50 figures now, also during the years sold some figs I dind't need anymore. And like you said i enjoy my collection more than when I was chasing everything.

The DX 19 versus the new armory was a perfect example. As the current holder of the DX 19, I considered the upgrade, but for me it was an easy decision. I don't have the space for the armory and the DX 19 is as good as my collection needs to have for now. Perhaps inart will come up with something worth considering, but right now, I'm happy with what I have.

Catching them all is near impossible! “Bitch and switch” definitely had me laughing. I never freak out over pictures because in hand is a different experience. I just collect characters I really enjoy and I pick a certain look I want in my collection, and I know I’ll be happy with.

I think an important lesson to take from this is that we have to learn to be happy with what we have instead of chasing every new version or latest iteration of a character. Its a hard lesson but, I am learning it myself. I just started moving my entire collection from my room to the basement and I am also culling on what I don't need anymore. They look cool but, I don't need them and are just taking up space for something better. I guess im kinda ready for the new age of collecting. My wallet isn't.

I've been collecting since Febuary of 2020 and in that time it's changed a lot. Competition is great it has led to some amazing new figures! Thanks for the content as always!

For the thousands in attendance, and the millions watching around the world, LLLETS GET READY TO- completely agree with KeCo. The cycle never changes. I have some figures in my collection that are nearly twenty years old. Do they look as good as the latest releases do? Fuck no they don't. But they have their places in my collection and if they ever make an updated Buffy line I'll be the first to buy the new ones. I have plenty of Hot Toys figures that I've bought 2.0s for, and others I was completely content to sit on what I already had. People can't continue to stress themselves out about the cycle, but when all they see on social media is everyone getting these new figures, they feel like they're missing out and have to compete. Collecting is for your benefit, and the moment it stops being a net positive to your life is the moment you need to reevaluate if you want to stay in the game or not.

Great points, being selective is critical for future collecting. Fomo and hype over something you dont care about will bite you in the ass down the road. Either through acruing debt you otherwise would avoid (and should avoid) or preventative to a future drop you really want.

Dude I appreciate all of your insight. You definitely know what we all go through in this unique community. Currently I’ve had to cancel 4 pre orders due to being jobless as of last month. And I’ve had that fomo issue and I’ve had to shift my priorities so that I can afford my bills first and anything else is secondary.

Phenomenal video KeCo! You’re so right on so many levels. It seems every release is shit according to online, but why then do they all keep selling out? I like to joke sometimes to the naysayers on a lot of pieces and say “I’ll catch you on the next ‘looking for a fair price’” posts. Not because I want to be toxic but instead due to your saying - Bitch and Switch! You see it on repeat when you’re in the hobby long enough!

Great video as always. For me though, I find that I’m collecting figures from 2 years ago that I missed out on and now they’re readily available from my local Hot Toys store, that being said I’m still preordering some figures from Sideshow, including the exclusives. And I’m sorry to say this, but I’m most excited for the artisan Anakin that’s coming out later this year. I know you’re still trying to get your hands on one, but hang in there Keco you will get one eventually. Also I watch a lot of review videos on certain figures before making my purchase decision based on if I love that character enough before clicking that order button. I also find that preordering figures in advance isn’t really worth the hype because after it’s released, they’re relatively easy to find and get at a much cheaper price depending on where you look.

Amazing video. I fell dow the rabbit hole of "needing" every figure in a particular line, be it Marvel, DC and Star wars to the point where It got out of control. It became a negative obsession. Now, after giving my head a wobble I ONLY collect Clone Troopers and Figures from the Clone Wars. That way, I look at releases and think" yeah they're nice, but they don't fit" Working for me so far.

I would love it if you can make a comparison video on ordering from Sideshow verses a local comic book store/a store that sells Hot Toys and price comparisons between the two including the exclusives you would get from Sideshow verses just a regular edition through your local comic book store/figure store.

I already have symbiote Spider-Man paid for (mostly) and I can’t wait! But I really hope it comes as soon as possible. Hopefully sideshow gets it in a timely manner. 🤞🏻

Great advice! I figured out long ago that it's better to want and buy than just buy to want. Money is hard earned now a days and getting everything you want is next to impossible!

When the 2.0s are announced, snatch up the previous version. They don't become obsolete or deteriorate overnight. They drop significantly in price. Enjoy and take advantage of someone else's FOMO.

Great perspective and advice us collectors should try to live by! When I started collecting 1/6 I did so late in the game with so many options so I knew I needed a vision or things would get out of hand. I have strayed a little over the years but like to think I retained that focus. Still videos like this help me stay in check

I've just started collecting but I'm trying to follow a few rules like only SW/LOTR/AGOT, some movies, only characters that I really like and sculpts that I find excellent. I feel like that should preserve me from looking at 2.0 and FOMO stuff. I just had the dilemma, looking for a Darth Vader I had to choose between the DX28 or MMS699. In the end, I've ordered the MMS699 since I hate the Kenobi show even tho the figure looks kinda cool. Great content as always !

That's why I am slowing down so much on preordering. Now granted, Starkiller and Revan were immediate grabs because I love the characters. But man, no matter the scale, I am changing out I acquire new targets.

I’m new to the game and I just pre ordered the regular darth maul edition not with the speeder because I can already tell these 1/6 scale are pricy and I will only be buying characters that I want for my future collection. I love watching your reviews and unboxings for someone new like me.

As a newbie I make the mistake of really wanting an expensive figure (OG Harley Quinn or the limited edition Wonder Woman WB100) and not want to fork up the money and settle for a cheaper version (Gold Jump Suit Harely Quinn and Wonder Woman 1984) just to lose sleep over the ones that I really wanted and wind up spending even more to wind up getting the ones that I wanted in the first place. My Wonder Woman WB100 was just delivered yesterday and the wool hair is so much better and real looking than the sculpted 1984 Wonder Woman but the point being, I need to learn to not cheap out and just spend the money on the ones that I want in the first place rather than getting the cheaper versions just to wind up getting the more expensive versions anyway spending even more money than I would of just going for the more expensive ones that I wanted right from the start...

I cannot afford chasing all the figures I want anyway. That's what I get for getting into 3 arguably most expensive nerd hobbies (1/6 figures/ Warhammer/ Magic: The Gathering).

Love it. I switched to just a few “definitive” versions of Jango and Boba along with my Tobey Spideys and just Clone Wars stuff. Completionism is honestly one of the worst things ALL collectors fall into one time or another

I think following some simple guidelines for ourselves, as collectors, will make a huge difference going forward. We don’t have to collect everything. I love Marvel and DC, but my comic book love has dwindled quite a lot, with the decline of the MCU and the mismanagement of the DCEU. The only loyalty that remains for me is with the Nolanverse. I’ll get whatever figures I have to get, if they truly look like worthy additions or improvements to me. Star Wars has become my main sixth scale focus though. It will be the only property that I continually buy figures from, for the foreseeable future. I do have a few game characters pre-ordered though, as well as the SooSoo Toys Blade. I might upgrade some figures that originally relied heavily on pleather, if they are ever remade. I don’t have to upgrade every figure though. That’s yet another point of contention. You don’t need to upgrade everything. There’s just no sense in it. Who are we trying to impress? Some of these upgrades don’t actually look that much drastically better to justify the cost and possible loss of money on the previous release. It’s also best to only upgrade figures from the main series you collect. Do not dip into other lines and partake in all the 2.0s and 3.0s, nor give in to the fomo. If you just have to break any of the guidelines you’ve set for yourself, at least do it with 1/12 scale figures, as they are a little more affordable, most of the time.

I’ve been waiting on that Aragorn by InArt for so long , honestly ,if I wasn’t a LOTR collector I would have lost interest by now 😅. And they haven’t even released yet ,lol. I think ,that’s what annoys me the most , the waiting … I don’t fear my figures losing market value ,to me the only value that matters is their personal emotional value for me. But the waiting …. This makes me super annoyed ,I am not patient 😅. And the lack of clear release estimate frames ,makes the waiting even worse .

Hot Toy collector since 2009. I only collect the figures I really want and in doing so I've misse out on a few figures that I wished I had. 2.0 figures kind of scratch that itch so I never overpay for a figure that may have given me FOMO in the past. Speaking of other companies, EXO-6 has been throwing out Star Trek figures left and right and beaming cash right out of my wallet. Deadpool and Wolverine may just break the bank lol. Well you only live once so just make sure you can take them all with you when you go lol.
