Have you ever wondered the history of Sideshow Collectibles and their Star Wars figures? Well, today is your lucky day! If you haven't already, check me out with these these figures and more on my Instagram page! / keco.collects
As you were explaining the history of these pieces it was truly taking me back to when i was 7 seeing that Sideshow Luke Skywalker in comic stores. Now I collect Star Wars hot toys and I finally got my 1/6 scale Luke from Return of the Jedi. Great channel I subbed last week.
Great summary, especially for us noob collectors! You really deserve a ton more subscribers - will be looking forward to seeing that come to fruition!!
Good Video ,, i have a few "Militaries of Star Wars" figures from Sideshow .. Stormtroopers and Sandtroopers , and on the bottom of their boxes it has the Hot Toys logo ,, what i have learned over the years is that Hot Toys in the early 2006 2007 or so did make the Armor for the Stormtroopers and later the Clones armor also but nothing compares to Hot Toys Star Wars figures even the first MMS line surpasses anything SS ever did .. Thanks for making this video and very informative 👍
The problem with many of side show figures in the past is the loose joints. I have one of their storm troopers in the figure cannot stand up without a support stand.
Don't forget, the Licensor (Disney in the case of Star Wars ) dictates to Hot Toys and Sideshow what characters they make from what movies or properties.
The only Sideshow piece I currently own is the ANH C3PO just because Hot Toys haven't got off their a** and made that version, yet. It definitely will be replaced when Hot Toys finally does get around to making him.
1:35 "Star Wars Sideshow" vs "Hot Toys [Star Wars] Sideshow" ...I've been waiting for someone to make a video about this 😁👍 I even got into a "debate" with a Sideshow collectibles employee when I pointed out that there was a difference between the two lol 🤣👍 Great video Keco 🔥
Thanks for another great video! When I was first starting my collecting I had some confusion between slideshow and hot toys. Ordered. One that I thought was a hot toy but was a side show. Luckily it's great! I love it! And it was not one that had a detailed head sculpt or anything specific. I am now more educated. Thank you for educating others who are starting so that they have a better understanding!
That 2006 SideShow Luke was actually my first 1/6 scale lol never knew he was the first original release lol I just started collecting about 6months ago I got about 8 figures right now literally just posted him up on Facebook market place for $50 to make room lol
6:56 I hope you are wrong: Kit Fisto was announced so that’s a start. If we were in the pandemic times I’ll be inclined to believe your statement. However, characters like Rey and Finn were still popular not that long ago…but NOT ANYMORE. The fans dictate what’s in and at this point what Disney discarded as LEGENDS or the PREQUELS it’s what’s popular. What’s selling more on preorder? A Hot Toys figure of Baylan Skoll or an Attack of the Clones ANAKIN SKYWALKER? A Grand Admiral Thrawn from the Ahsoka show or a Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic DARTH REVAN? There’s hope still for the fans and what they want…patience is the key 😐
@@KeCoCollects they have always had great customer service and their rewards points have saved me a lot over the years. I don’t know why these other 1/6 channels promote HK resellers so much!
I just got my very 1st 1/4 scale vader from ROTJ but sadly the pleather started to peel off when i first changing the pose, couldn't blame the seller but myself coz the figure was launched at 2019 but im deeply in love with it 😭
Hey KeCo! I was curious on what you use the clean your glass on the detolfs! I have fingerprints on mine and want to know what I should use to spray on it.
Thanks for the awesomely insightful video, man. I don't collect but I *am* eyeing a particular classic 1/6 character to occupy the driver seat of a 1/6 RC SUV I'm building. The item in question being a high-consideration pre-order, I was wondering if you'd share your thoughts on shopping at SideShow. There is one highly *scathing review on the BBB* website describing a pre-opened and dirty figure with missing parts and literature. Would that be an uncommon occurrence or a general reflection of customer experience with them?
I have several sideshow figures. Star Wars is Leigha and Mace Windu, the for Buffy I have Willow. Vampire Willow, Xander. Vampure Buffy, and Giles. as far as Hot Toys go... I only have Selina Kyle that I got on preorder.
So i'm really new to collecting sideshow/hot toys figures and I really wanted to get a Revenge Of The Sith Hot Toys Obi-Wan figure. However, it's worth so much now that I just can't afford it. I ended up buying the 2006 sideshow order of the jedi Obi-Wan and i'm very excited to get him. But I'm wondering, if i were able to get a hot toys head sculpt of the rots obi-wan head, would I be able to attach that onto the 2006 sideshow order of the jedi body? Would i just need a neck adaptor or is the body and head just not compatible with each other? Great video!
Tough to know for sure. If there is a neck adapter, that's a great start! I just don't know how they connect on those older sideshow bodies. Good luck!
I only buy from sideshow and they are wonderful with customer service. If is a third party figure like mars toys then that is a different story or if i find something from ebay at a much lower price but overall i am satisfied with sideshow.
I hope one day HT will make all the Jedis from the movies but unfortunately we might Never see an Aaly secura, Plo kun, heck we haven't even gotten Mace windu
Hot toys far better , even clones and troopers. Problems is i just entered this world and can’t find affordable price for stormtrooper/sandtrooper here in italy
I own 2 Sideshow clones, 212th and 442nd. Got them for 200 euros together what i think is good deal. I think Hot Toys Will do 212th someday but i doubt we see 442nd. They Look reallly good next To my Hot Toys clones tho
Those early SS figures are cringeworthy. But to be fair, other sixth scale figures from that time were pretty bad, too. I have bought a few to cannibalize their clothing and accessories for new figures. When I first started collecting SW I didn't know the difference between SS and HT - thought they were the same company - and I preordered the ROTJ Luke Skywalker; other than the headsculpt, I've no complaints. The body has remained "tight," and honestly I think his clothes fit him better than the HT version (I have all the HT versions, too). The one thiing HT does (which I think is cheap and easy move on their part) is they fasten all their belts in the back with a velcro tab - it looks horrible. Sideshow doesn't do that.
