thx for doing this comparison! I could imagine, the lights are dimmer, since you have much more lights on the mmark II with the same power going in. Otherwise i also will not attempt to roll that damn thing around :-P it will go straight in hover mode and will be displayed like this forever, as it is my fav look for this beauty

It’s definitely possible that with the additional LEDs and wiring on the Mark 2 that could affect brightness overall. But if you watched my Problems video I also found I had an inconsistency in the brightness of the hover wheels which others said they didn’t. I am thinking the rolling of the wheels could be messing with the LED connection in the wheels and possibly introducing some resistance and therefore affecting everything else!

12:00 The seat belt buckle on the Mark II is black while the Mark I is gray. And I see they took a page from the Aoshima play book and put the flying chassis on the Mark I. I guess because it doesn't fly, you shouldn't be looking under the car. Thank you for the video.

Yes it was confirmed many times and the speckling appears in Sideshow’s first look video. That, combined with other examples of weathering (the seats for instance) and the absence of anyone with a Mark 2 that doesn’t have it, says it has to be intentional. Doesn’t mean it looks good however

I wonder if the mark 2’s wheels are just the tires rolling instead of the whole wheel on an axle like the mark 1. And does rolling the mark 2 twist wires inside because of the lights and that’s why it’s resistant? Who knows it’s fine just sitting idle

I would have thought there would be some major improvements in general on the Mark 2 considering it was released nearly a full decade from when the Mark 1 was released. Little inaccuracies that add up: the tail lights shouldn't be so "dark", but more like the Eaglemoss. The bumper logo as you pointed out is not "raised" lettering but the opposite, the underbody should have looked completely different because the car was Hover-converted. I almost feel like when they designed the Mark 1 they were already thinking about the Mark 2 and didn't change much in the many years until they released it. Obviously they had the prototype since what 2015 or 2016.

Agreed! The inaccuracies were only partially corrected on the Mark 2. As you pointed out the same bumper logo and tail light inaccuracies carried over to the Mark 2. It makes little sense given the length of time between releases! Eaglemoss got the bumper logo and tail lights correct in a smaller scale. Why wasn’t Hot Toys paying full attention?

@@DeLoreanTECH The Eaglemoss is SO much more accurate in so many little ways that Hot Toys totally dropped the ball on low hanging fruit! To give you an extreme example of Eaglemoss's dedication to accuarcy, they even added the "eyebrow" effect to the front fascia. I mean that's doing your homework!

Love the videos! I think that speckled tire and undercarriage is probably Hot Toys using recycled materials. That "speckling" is commonly found on rubbers that are made of recycled materials. Probably cheaper for them to use than actual rubber. Just my guess.

Man if that's the case what a poor decision! However -- how would you explain the same speckling on the underbody? Maybe they did that to try and explain away the recycled rubber for the tires.....

@@DarthSid1138 I did realize that after the fact. I just don't think they would use that method to show weathering. The weathering found on the exhaust vents is accurate and something that we can all agree is what weathering looks like. Speckling though? Lol. Like someone mentioned here, Hot Toys had way too much time to correct things and really nail this thing. I still have my mark 2 on the payment plan and won't get it till July, but I'm still hyped AF! I never lucked out and got the mark 1.

I received mine Wednesday and finally unboxed it tonight. My lights are way brighter than yours. My wheels work fine too. I think people were folding them down before pulling them out all the way. Maybe they opened the bix too quickly after being on a cold truck..who knows. I usually let stucc acclimate to the temp in my house. I get so many guitars in the mail that it's just habit now. This thing is beautiful. I was not expecting it to be so big even after seeing the videos of it.

Just got my Mark 2 and the back left wheel is completely out . I'm so mad. They only offer 85 dollars if you choose not to send it back . So sad . I don't want to send it back but it's out the door Monday. If it comes back screwed up I'll be so un happy. The lights on the mark 2 are ok .

I am so sorry that happened to you! Just like Danoby, which suggests an inherent issue with the wheels and tires binding up, stressing the hinges and leading to breakage. Maybe we need to roll it backwards after rolling it forwards to mitigate the chances of breaking? Or not roll it at all to be safe

It is now August 2023, and I have finally purchased the part two hover version and it is on the way. From what I have viewed , I plan to put the DeLorean upside down on its roof and with the little WD-40 red spray tube, gently squirt some lube into the wheel Joint area before I attempt to transition the wheels for the first time. WD-40 does not hurt plastics, and it may prevent the plastic gouging and wearing.

There has been speculation that HT rushed the Mark2 because JazzInc had expressed interest in doing it (there was a real possibility due to connections Joost had formed since becoming an A-tier partner with WB).

Absolutely I believe it too. Usually, a sixth-scale vehicle release is accompanied by the figures. Interesting that Hot Toys didn't also reissue their BTTFII Marty and Doc. Also interesting that they announced the reissue of their Batman '89 figure last year at SDCC but only recently announced an '89 Batmobile reissue after Jazz Inc's version gained a lot of attention. Word must have gotten out that Jazz Inc bought a license with Universal and Hot Toys assumed they'd make a DeLorean first. So, they reissued (let's call it what it is) theirs, added a flimsy hover mechanic, and sold it as a new version. Joost has said that with Hot Toys reissuing their DeLorean, he won't be making a version anytime soon. So, Hot Toys' tactic worked. Little scummy if you ask me. I hope Joost does make a DeLorean at some point because I think he'd knock it out of the park and judging by how many collectors have preordered his '89 Batmobile even after Hot Toys' reissue announcement, I think it'd be very popular.

Look at the wheels on the hover mode, on the picture of the plaque that yout take out of the box, they hang below the chassis and that is´t correct (in fact that looks horrible🙂) , I remember seeing a prototyp like this anywhere in internet, but now on your model they are on the right place! I think, hot toys corrected that error after having printed the atteched material in the box.

Yes they did! And it was an 11th hour change apparently. They knew the community would be disappointed with those hanging wheels. That's probably what I like the most about it!

I absolutely love the detail in your videos. Not so sure if I like the dirty tires cause it looks more like a defect then an effect. Now lets hope for a standard DMC12 with a set of 3 different hoods;-)

Thanks for another great comparison. I think I'll be passing on the Mark II due to the lack of accuracy upgrades and QC issues (those speckled tires are inexcusable). Still solid but could be much better. I'd think I'd either go with Eaglemoss on the higher end or the Hot Wheels Elite Ultimate. Is it just me or is the shape of the rear wheel wells wrong on all three here (MKI, MKII, Eaglemoss)? Shouldn't the curve at the top be relatively flatter? The only models I've seen that try to get that right are the Sunstar and Diamond Select.

Great video ! Thank you for this comparison. I have the Mark I and the one thing that pisses me off royally is the fact that HT did not light up the the dashboard like they have with the Mark II. Especially since in the original promo shots they made it look like the dash lit up. In my opinion, except for the Flux Capacitor, the time circuits are the most important part of the car. Why the hell didn't HT think of incorporating lights for that with all the other cool lighting effects in the cab? Are there any collectors that have modified the Mark I dash to light up properly? Has anyone contacted HT and gotten a answer as to why or as to any mod correction tips? I contacted them and got nothing back but "that's just the way it was made". UGGGHHHH !, so angry about this !

Agreed, but that was then, this is now. The Mark 1 was literally their first stab at it. What irks me is they didn't take the changes far enough with Mark 2 as I pointed out in my Issues video and my Returning video. The door lights not lighting up is another recently noticed miss opportunity from Mark 1 to Mark 2. Again, the Mark 2 is literally the same model with the hovermode added, more LEDs, and correct fascia paint. They did the minimum for sure. Still love it but come on for > $900!!!

Superb video! Really hits on all the differences, but at the end of the day they really are the same model but with a few changes here and there. It's better but more of an improved version of the BTTF 1 model.

Thanks! Yes, they are the same model with redesigned wheel extension mechanisms and Mr. Fusion, not much was corrected except the fascia paint color. I would have liked to see big fixes like the propoer hood style lines, bumper logo inset instead of raised, propoer colored tail lights, you know all the things Eaglemoss got right with their 1/8 scale! It is what it is.

That “DELOREAN” logo embossed in the rear bumper drives me nuts because it looks like this -> “ DE LOREAN” as if there were a space between the “E” & “L”. What is with that?? Weird.

That’s actually a thing! The way John DeLorean wrote his name was “De Lorean” but over the years they lost the space. It even appears that way on the original window sticker when the cars were first sold in the 80s.

0:10 You left out the color difference that is going inside and around the front and rear bumper. The color looks gold on the Mark I to where on the Mark II, it blends well with the color of the body of the car...

Both head lights and tail lights are slightly dimmer on the Mark 2 compared to my Mark 1...I’m running both on a Soap Reactor.

Thanks for reporting back in on this! Probably a common issue then and could be attributed to the extra LEDs in the Mark 2. On the other hand I also have inconsistent brightness between the front and rear wheels. So I submitted a support request with Sideshow. Other buyers do not have that issue.

on the mark 1 in the dashboard the plutonium indicator is a sticker that you did not mount in your copy, in my mark 1 there is. Thank you for this comprehensive and interesting video.

which one of your Deloreans do you like the most? I only have budget for 1 and can't decide between the eaglemoss and the Hot Toys MK1/MK 2. I like the eaglemoss for the diecast but like the size of the MK 1/MK2.

You’ve probably already realized this by now, but… You can’t roll the Mark II because of the wiring for the hover-mode wheel lighting.

Great video. I'm torn as to whether to get the mark II. I have the first one and they're so similar. I like the hover mode and particularly the light-up dash but is that worth more than $1kAUD? If I don't get it I may regret it later when it hits the secondary market at an even higher price.

I think you should get it, as it will be worth a lot more in "mint" condition after all these early release guys have broken theirs!!! Seriously though how can you pass on this, even with the "issues"...just be very careful, heed the collector warnings and you should be okay. Price on 2ndary market will double within 6 months.

Hi, do you think it's possible to convert the second version in to the One? (Remove the platform with mr fusion and install a plutonium Chamber 3d printed). Thanks

Yes it is but I do not know how to remove the platform. Even Danoby2 tried and was not successful. Apparently it's glued on and the only way to remove it would be to dissolve or melt the glue, which could damage the other parts around it. Another option would be to Dremel the platform off in pieces but then you can't re-use it. Depends on what you want to do. If you don't plan on going back to Mark 2 mode ever, then using a fine bit or wheel on a Dremel is what I would do (NOT recommending anything here though! Do at your own risk)

Do you know if the new DeLorean will fit in your iDisplayit case with it on the stand and the doors open? If not, about how much taller is it? They say they can make an adjustment for it but they don’t know if it’s going to fit without measurements. Thanks so much

Wonder if it's possible to clean that weathering shit on the bottom and tires OFF?? And I should point out that REAL Deloreans' facias are made from a different material than the rest of the car and over time do change color. I think the bastards who managed to get a "Mark 1"(Tony would be proud) are lucky ones.

UPDATE: Just got mine in the mail. Mine is DIFFERENT AND SOOO EFFING BETTER THAN YOURS SHOWN IN THIS VIDEO DUDE. Not sure why yours does not have the same color scheme as the original Mark 1 but my Mark 2 Delorean HAS the same great "brushed metal" exterior PLUS it has the variant front/rear fascia colors as Mark 1!! Golly I so happy! Now it does still have some issues which I will list here: THE STAND: This is effing dog shit. Not only is it near immmmmpossible to set up without two people, it is flimsy and cheap as a two-dollar hooker from Beverly Hills. I am 99% sure I would come home one day to find my perfect Mark 2 broken on the damn floor. DO NOT TRUST IT. Am going to 3d print one made of metal. THE SETUP: The temporal displacement faraday cage is VERY hard to snap in place--specifically the white pegs. Hot Toys should have situated magnets for getting these pieces to fit on the car--because I came SO close to breaking some pegs, it is crazy. THE SHIPPING: UPS was nice enough. But the zipheads shipped my new fake D naked in its shipping crate--causing its cool BTTF2 graphics to be botched and probly not worth keeping. I'm pissed but nah, no. I'm good. :) BOTTOM LINE: If you love collecting super cool toys, GET THIS AMAZING THING despite its minor BS. AND FOR DOCS' SAKE, GET A SECOND PERSON TO HELP YOU SET UP. eNJOY! ...and sorry for the ALL CAPS. I been reading Jonathan Swift lately.
