Hot water, second to wood heat is my favorite luxury of living off grid. Its amazing what you find is really important when you living without most everything for 6 months. Now we have a regular toilet, running hot water, a bath tub, washing machine, a regular gas stove and propane fridge. And two weeks ago we purchased a wood cook stove I can't wait to get that home. We have learned so much after 7 years.

Ive been using that exact model for 5 years in my tiny home trailer. They do work great and are extremely hot. I have replaced mine 2 times due to freezing up while I was driving. The pipe in these are very thin. Be sure to shut your water off and unscrew the brass drain valve in freezing temperatures. I would also disconnect the water supply in those instances. I made my unit connections with braided ss supply lines so its easy to unfasten. You will like it! Just be aware of how fast and easy they can freeze and split.

I have one...but..in the winter you have to drain the water out of the unit..the pipes inside will freeze and bust...I learned from experience. My husband and I had to purchase another unit. I love them..but if it's freezing temps..drain the unit of any water. And..they will rust outside..put a little awning over it..we have a shower house over ours...love you guys..God bless..😊

Hey Danny, I have had two of these units. I live off grid in east Texas. I installed my first one in 2017. It worked great until we had a freeze. It busted my entire system including the piping of the heat exchanger inside the unit. The second one I installed has lasted almost to years now and has started to have a pinhole leak at a soldered point of the exchanger tubing. This appears to be a weak point of these units. The exchanger looks just like a common heater core from a car and the tubing that it is soldered to is somewhat thin. I may sound like I am being negative but I have enjoyed the convenience they have provided. They are economical and for the cost they have served me well. I am also running on solar so the battery powered pergo igniter is a great feature. You may want to build some kind of structure outside around your unit or shut it off and drain the water heater if you are expecting a freeze. I bult a metal siding Utility building behind my house that my unit is in. (I added a T in the feed line between the shutoff and the unit so I can drain it during a freeze.) During summer I leave mine on minimum gas flow but during the winter I have to adjust it to be comfortable. One other note on it's propane use. I had a twenty pound bottle on it originally and I was able to take between 30 to 60 showers on one bottle depending of shower length, 10 to 20 min showers. (These were taken during the summer) Love your place!! God blessings on you and Miss Wanda!!!

We have this model off grid up here in northern mn.... we've had it 3 years and works wonderful. It's inside our home because, well... northern mn lol... 5 ppl showering and dishes and such and it's never failed us nor has it been a problem w gases... Edit: yup ours goes out too if we go much past min ... I think it's because then the pressure through the hot side which is needed for the flame to stay on just isn't high enough... we just keep it on min.

I bought one a few months ago and I’m just getting around to Installing it. Mine is indoor and comes with a 3” exhaust pipe to vent outside. I’m planning to make a sheet metal spacer to mount it to with an inch gap to the drywall. The gap will be filled with Rock wool insulation which I’ll also pack into the thimble where it goes through the exterior wall. Thanks for the idea to install an inline water filter on the supply side. I have two small LP tanks, so I won’t need the gauge. I hope this 10 liter Camplux unit puts out sufficient flow for a shower. It’s supposed to, but when it gets cold outside, who knows. They always seem to overstate the capacity, no matter which brand. Thanks for the video.

When you turn the water flow on the unit up, you’re telling the unit not to ignite until there is a greater amount of water coming through. It needs to have the flow turned down as low as it goes in order to ignite with less water flowing through the pipe. I have had a tankless water heater for about 15 years that uses water flow to spin a little water wheel inside which creates a spark and ignites the flame. No batteries or electricity required. But you want the flame to ignite with the smallest amount of water flowing so you turn the flow down. That also helps to raise the temperature of the water.

@Pete-bs9kw 11 месяцев назад
Same issue with ours. It’s battery operated as well. Has to both be in minimum. Issue we’re having is that you have to have the hot water valve all the way on for it to work. If you want it warm and move the nozzle to warm setting the hot water heater gets hotter because there’s less water traveling through the hot water heater. So to take showers you have to regulate the heat on the tank. Kinda sucks. Anyone out there that has suggestions that would be rad. Enjoyed the videos Danny!

Your tankless hot water heater is a blessing, we all want convenience without paying for it out the wallet, Congrats Danny and Wanda!
@eco_guardian

Yup those heaters are pressure activated and when the pressure drops from turning on the tap it kicks on, but when the pump kicks on to restore the pressure, the new pressure will kick off the heater. The regulator is the best way to do it, but will kill your pressure if you have a larger system.

How high up do you need to put your IBC tote to get sufficient pressure and flow to the unit? Also, do you need to be mindful of how high you mount the heater in relation to the faucet, shower or other outlets? Or does the 12v pump handle it regardless?

Very cool, question, so i thought when ever the heater senses water pressure going into it , it would ignite.. but it looks like thats not the case? So Its only when the faucet is turned on? So to be clear... water pressure can be hooked up to it all the time... and when it senses water flow it kicks on?

I was looking at those on line for my place also. I think I need an indoor one as we're suppose to get a few months of freezing weather. I did read that cold air in the vent can freeze the unit and cause it to break, so I'm still undecided.

When we built I decided to go with a Rheem propane tankless hot water heater. I was concerned that my young grandkids would touch the hot vent outside so I went with a sealed unit that vents out warm air. We love the water heater. It uses very little propane. My water coming in is from a drilled artesian well. It is very cold. About a month ago there was a tornado a few miles from us. It took out the power lines for the better part of a day. My whole house generator kicked on, so I told my wife I was going to take a shower. No hot water. The problem was that the electricians that originally set up the transfer panel didn't realized that the fan on the Rheem closed system has to work. Yesterday, I had the electrican out and he connected the fan up.

The higher the water pressure the higher the flow of water and less time for water to be heated before passing through heater, this may be reason it shuts off with high pressure.

One thing is to secure the propane bottle ie fit another post preferably a metal one with a chain secured to the bottle just in case bottle is knocked over by high winds or persons or bears etc otherwise the gas pipe will pull or tear off the regulator or pull off the heater damaging the water heater..and causing a gas spill..

I have an indoor unit on natural gas. Worked fine for 12 months then started flaming out due to what seemed to be a water flow issue. Two items (shower and washer) running at the same time caused it to turm off. Turns out it was a low gas pressure/volume problem. Not saying it's your problem though.

Hello Danny, Nice Video. Question: You say the manual shows a smaller propane tank, like one for a grill. Is it because the manufacturer states: DO NOT use a 100lb tank or any tank larger than a 20lb for safety reasons? Is the hose & regulator only safe to use on the smaller propane tanks and for use with a 100lb tank??
@johnabrshamsen8440

I’m pretty sure they recommend a smaller tank because of that 100 pounder tips over Rick actually tear the hose and fittings apart with the weight of the tank. I would see if you were going to use a large tank you better make sure it’s anchored Security sort cannot tip

I have been using that same unit in my camp up in northern Michigan. When you notice a temp fluctuation flush it out and all is good. If yours treats you as well as mine has treated us your going to really like it. And a 100 lb tank is going to last you along time.

Oh and white vinegar is all I use to flush it with....works good for me.

How long does the 100lb tank last with this water heater? How is your water usage/family size?

Does this unit have it's own water pump or do you need that separate? If so, what do you use for a water pump?

The tankless water heater I have works off of flow more than the pressure. Don't remember what the numbers are, but I will find the paperwork and send you the numbers for it.

Is there an off grid natural gas system that uses tanks instead of hard lines similar to propane?

Good that you put it away from the house. There have been a few cases where the whole house propane generators have leaked into the house over time.

Is there a water pump either side? How do you cool the water-is there a separate cold water tap?

Living without running water is hard work, and having to heat water for cleaning makes any job twice as long. That water heater is going to be great at your cabin.

Can you comment on the status of the propane water heater? Are you still satisified with it? I'm shopping for one now. Thanks.

Yes, we are still using ours. We cover it in the winter to keep it from freezing. Only thing we have to watch.

We completely drain it. wrap it in a blanket and put a plastic garbage bag over it and tie it. Not had a problem so far
