Hot Wheels toy cars are some of the best cheap toys around. I investigate the 2015 Hot Wheels Advent Calendar looking for cool toy cars and the Santa Claus hot rod sleigh as seen on the box artwork. There are 8 toy cars and 16 accessories to make up the 24 days before Christmas. This Hot Wheels toy was being sold in Target Australia. My local Target did not have a price on the shelves. For this fact alone it had me curious to find out more about this Christmas season toy. As we all know Christmas can be a very dangerous time for consumers, there are unusual price spikes and even crazy Christmas specials. There are many Christmas advent calendars around, I did investigate the Thomas & Friends MINIS and it was amazing with some special Christmas Thomas characters included. Lego also do amazing advent calendars that add to the excitement of christmas. But Christmas can carry with it a ton of emotion, and too much emotion can have you spending lots of money on things you never need. Retailers know this and maximise on this Christmas spirit. To balance out this Hot Wheels investigation I also show a 20 pack of great looking Hot Wheels cars that was selling for a fantastic standard price. I ask my audience which would they prefer. The Hot Wheels advent calendar or the pack of 20 Hot Wheels cars. I also ask my 6 year old son what he prefers. To finish off I show my little toy hack to make a jet engine Sharkcruiser, that alone is some real Hot Wheels magic.
Countdown to Christmas the Hot Wheels Way! Based upon a traditional countdown to Christmas Eve, the Hot Wheels Advent Calendar will keep kids entertained leading up to the big holiday. Start the race on December 1st and see what surprises each festively decorated window on the calendar holds every day. When opened, all 24 windows reveal a secret inside from toys to 1:64-scale cars. As Christmas draws closer, there's something new to open and play with every day!
Possibly the best way to look at this Mattel Hot Wheels product is as a curious collectable. Through the years, Hot Wheels cars have been collected mostly by children, but in the last 20 years there has been an increase in the number of adult collectors. Mattel estimates that 41 million children grew up playing with the toys, the average collector has over 1,550 cars, and children between the ages of 5 and 15 have an average of 41 cars. Most believe the collecting craze started with the Treasure Hunts in 1995. Mike Strauss has been called the father of Hot Wheels collecting; he has organized two collectors' events each year in some form since 1986. The first event was the Annual Hot Wheels Collectors Convention, normally held each year in the fall. The convention occurred in various locations around the country until 2001, when the first Annual Hot Wheels Collectors Nationals was put together. Since then, the Conventions are held each year in southern California.
