On the bench today is a 1/64 scale Hot Wheels Custom ’69 Chevy. It’s based on a customized version of a 1969 Chevy C/K pickup truck. This casting was designed by Phil Riehlman and it debuted in the 2002 First Editions. Mine’s the earliest one from ’02 and was made in Malaysia. It got retooled in 2020, with the grill and lower bumper now being part of the base.
This is my entry into the Diecast Mafia’s Shop truck invitational build-off. They’re a build team of great guys who have all been supportive of my early efforts on RU-vid. You can find their channels here. Be sure to check them out and get all subbed up. Tell them Andrew sent you over.

C/K is a series of trucks that were manufactured by General Motors. Marketed under the Chevrolet and GMC brands, the C/K series included a wide range of vehicles. While most commonly associated with pickup trucks, the model line also included chassis-cab trucks and medium-duty trucks and served as the basis for GM full-size SUVs. Used for both the model branding and the internal model code, "C" denoted two-wheel drive; "K" denoted four-wheel drive.
Launched in the fall of 1959, the 1960 model year introduced a new body style of light pick-up truck that featured many firsts. Most important of these were a drop-center ladder frame, allowing the cab to sit lower, and independent front suspension, giving an almost car-like ride in a truck. They were branded with exciting names like Apache, Viking and Spartan. It’s when we first heard the terms Fleetside and Stepside.
Mine is a second generation truck. These were produced from ’67-’72 and designated the "Action Line" generation. The C/K body was redesigned from the ground up to improve its capability as a multi-purpose vehicle. The C/K was also offered with optional features carried over from Chevrolet sedans, including automatic transmissions, AM/FM radio, carpet, and two-tone paint. The drivetrain line underwent multiple revisions, as a large-block V8 was offered for the first time in 1968. After 1969, GM switched entirely to Chevrolet-produced engines for C/K pickup trucks.

FYI: I don't collect, display or sell the cars, and they’re certainly not competition entries. All of the Maple Leaf Matchbox Makeovers finished projects that are kid-friendly are put in custom blister packs and go to my local Goodwill store where they are given to children for free. If there are parts that can be swallowed, those cars are given as gifts to adult collectors that are fellow enthusiasts.
Note: Due to the use of paint stripping chemicals and power tools, this channel is not intended for viewing by children. Age 14+ is recommended.
