The holidays are truly my favorite time of year. They’re the one moment in the year we can put everything aside, slow down and spend time with those people we cherish most. I love entertaining and most years (minus the last two really) we play host to a large group of friends and family and a lot of the time I’m asked to be the bartend. So today on the fly we’re going to be making a simple hot whiskey punch perfect for your holiday gathering.
Blackwood’s Magazine was a British Magazine and Miscellany published between 1817 and 1980 and was named after it’s founder William Blackwood. Between 1822 and 1835 a series of articles were published titled Noctes Ambrosianae or Ambrosian Nights. These were a series of fictionalized dialogues between various Scottish intellectuals who sit around Ambrose’s Tavern in Edinburgh drinking punch and mulling over the important issues of the day. This recipe made it's debut around 1854 in the footnotes of Blackwood's Magazine. Apparently so that the public could join in on not only the lively conversation but also the punch drinking reverie.

A great way to accelerate the speed at which the oleo saccharum extracts those oils out of the peels without sacrificing any leftover flavors in the peels is to use a sous vide.

In my experience, there's no need to muddle the peels if you put the peels and sugar in a mason jar and wait 24 hours.

Love your channel and I got a request: I was wanting to make an Aviation but I could not find any Creme de Violet in town I did find Creme Yvette but it doesn’t give it that sky blue color comes out more red. Can you explain the difference and maybe offer some other cocktails to make using Creme Yvette.

Creme de violette is violets macerated in spirits with sugar and water added. Creme de Yvette is almond liqueur. Only cocktail I can think of with Creme de Yvette is a pink squirrel

@@TheEducatedBarfly I think your wrong Creme Yvette is an American proprietary form of Creme de Violette. I think it adds berries into the mix making it lose that purple blue color.

By “cap off” do you mean add a cap or keep it off :) thanks for clarifying. Also, can we use the sous vide technique to warm up mulled wine in a bottle (and should we remove the cork first in your opinion) we got access to some lovely pre-bottled mulled wine in the UK

Yeah peel of one lemon with 1oz sugar make oleo saccherum with it. Add in 2oz scotch and hot water

I beautiful recipe but there was ABSOLUTELY no need to use a not-so-inexpensive SINGLE MALT when a an inexpensive BLENDED SCOTCH (or at the very least a less expensive single malt) would've sufficed IMHO. Merry Christmas! ✌️
