I am sorry to see what happened to you but GREAT JOB! Thank you for uploading this video. Hopefully this stops thieves that take advantage of access to room safes from doing this. Unfortunately, Ive heard that this is common in other tourist attraction centers as well. As with everything, dont let yourselves be fooled by the false sense of safety everyone!
This happens all the time, my parents had wedding rings stolen from the safe in New york and a maid stole my discman in minneapolis. usually broke cleaning lady
Very well done, I am from Gran Canaria and it's important that these things stop to happen and it's even more important to denounce this. But you should have directly called the 112 to talk with the police (Guardia Civil or Policia Nacional) since you never now if that hotel clerk gets aggressive and destroys your camera.

Yep- he had come into the room one night while we were asleep as euros went missing on the counter when we came back in (which is where he first goes to in the video)
Great video - if someone wants to add an extra layer of security to an in-room hotel safe, travelers can buy a special lock that allows a traveler to place their own lock on the outside of a hotel safe. This prevents an unauthorized person from accessing your hotel safe when you are away. You can see a video of this lock, called a Milockie, by searching the name here on RU-vid. Wow. I have managed a world famous Hotel desk before. There is usually one master key to every door. But only key members of management are entrusted with safe codes. It is necessary for management to have access to safes because guests sometimes forget their combination. I'm glad you bears did this. This just happened to me at the Riu Palace Punta Cana. Unfortunately we were not able to prove that we had money stolen from our wallets from the safe, and nobody believed us. Was this safe one with a key or one with a code?
Btw, what did the hotel management do afterward to express how sorry they were? I sure hope they gave you a full refund. I bet you vowed never to return there.

Was he the manager on duty? So glad you got him, awesome vid, but sorry he ruined your trip! I didn't know Mick was your husband, so sweet.
We also stayed in Gran Canaria, near your hotel, in Las Rosas Hotel. The first day we arrived there, a friend had his video camera and laptop stolen from the room. The room was opened with a key, because there were no signs of a break-in, and we are sure the maid did it. She was the only one with the key. It's a common practice. Of course no one confessed and the police could do nothing without solid proof. Next time we'll pay more attention.

@2010ISAACRODRIGUEZ The guy broke into their room, opened the safe (the safe!!!) and took the money. The evidences found in the video were enough for a judge to condemn him. Very well done Mr. Robinson.
The phone rang in the room- anyone who knows us would ring the mobile (cellphone), so we guessed it was someone checking if we were there. You suspect everything when you can see money is being taken out of the safe!
One would think a 4 star hotel would treat it's paying clients a bit better than that , good on you for catching the thieving prick ...loved the vid..hate thieves.spit ! spit !
This isn't even the worst part about hotels. They are monitored by the staff using hidden cameras and audio devices so small you would never suspect it. I would say every hotel has rooms like this.

The saddest thing is there are many honest people wishing to get a job like that and they don't have any chance. Unfortunately this kind of people trying to get advantage of tourists in different ways is the cancer we have had here since some decades ago. There are people coming from another countries stealing and doing shit to tourists aswell and I could "understand" them better because they don't give a shit about Gran Canaria and its image,etc.
This is a good thing. A lot of tourists get ripped off and stolen from on Gran Canary. At least this time the thief has been caught in the act and is punished. A lot of the Canario's are so corrupt, incl. the Guardia Civil.

I have had 5 holidays in Gran Canaria. The first couple were okay then it went downhill. You have the scratch card Anfi scammers on every street corner, the friendly male Africans trying to sell watches, the very unfriendly African women who greet people with a handshake then tie a lump of leather around your wrist. They then demand money and if you don't pay they will probably run off with a handbag. We made the mistake of buying a camcorder in Puerto Rico. A sony one for 50 Euros, seemed good, a tripod and camera case were thrown in as well. As soon as they had our money they invited us to sit down with free soft drinks. Then show us that the sony camera we had just bought was in his opinion sub standard and he pushed another unheard of camera at us. They would not budge, it was this other camera at a greater cost or get out of the shop empty handed. We got scammed, the other camera was very poor quality. The final insult for us was when we was involved in a hotel lift accident. Basically the lift went berserk, fell two floors and came to a sudden stop. There was a smell of burning wire and smoke was entering the lift. Also the lights went out. The hotel said we had overloaded the lift but the lift stated it was for 6 persons. There was 6 in the lift. They fought us tooth and nail. We successfully sued them back home. Gran Canaria no way will I go back there! I am glad you got a good result from the hotel thief but the look on the manager's face says it all. They close ranks and will not help, you would have been stuffed without that video evidence.

It´s really something that in your country happens every day. SSSSSSSORRY I'm an ex worker from that hotel, i've been worked for 3 months there and that's only a exception, it's completely stupid to do that, anyway the safes have some connector to read which one has opened, and the information of that safe card says that THAT CARD IS FROM RECEPTION. How the fuck could be so stupid that guy... I've been recepcionist and this behaviour is totally an exception... Janiel the with the same dress is my best friend, i met him there... Damn mate.Your lucky you caught that on tape. I would have busted his ass if I saw him in my room. He would have nothing to say! Hope you got your money back. Always lock the door and the safe, and answer the phone. This is awful. I'm not going there that's for sure.

There are thieves all around the world, I am not trying to justify what he did, but it hurts me when I read some coments related to spanish people being dishonest and making fun of the way we speak a foreign language. At least we try it!. I come from Spain and the only time in my entire live that my wallet was stolen was in the London Underground
@kondadotm Jumping out and catching him after he put the money in his pocket would not have affected his prosecution as it was all caught on camera. It would have given him a bloody good shock though but I can understand why they waited until he had left.
