I bought one of these based on your review 3 years ago .....I still have it and still use it for home practice with headphones , light rehearsals and even in studio when I just cant be bothered to carry much else than my guitar . It also stays with me on gigs as a back uo just in case my main rig fails.....I have all my settings set up in this ready to go. It sounds great live. Light and easy makes it worth keeping at your side ready to step in when called to duty.

@@beeman596 yeh it's got a few of them, it has a USB so you can plug it into your computer, go to their website and update the software which usually adds more effects, amp models etc

Please, do affordable multi fx units shootout! This, the Mooer GE 100, Zoom G1Xon / G3Xn, Boss GT1! Create 3-4 patches(clean, crunch, lead, ambient?) that sound good. Everyone make a little jam with the looper of each unit, showing each patch. Or Blindfold Challenge! Pick 3 multi FX units in different price category - sub 100 pounds, ~ 250, ~ 400 pounds. Find the 2-3 best sounds in each unit and judge the price by quality of the sound.

Let me point out that affordable multi-effect pedals are not just for people starting out. I'm using a Zoom G1on as my main amp sim and muti-effect live and while recording. It's even less money than the Hotone reviewed here. I've even used it DI:ed a several gigs and people have been convinced that I used a real tube amp. (I have owned a mid-70s Marshall Plexi so I have had things to compare it to..) On top of that I have never found that I miss any single pedal. Save your money and get a multi-effectspedal.

I never use the factory patches. On any of my multi-effects. They are usually over-effected and unusable. And yes, the 505 was truly horrible. The newer Zoom pedals are quite a different story. If you need some special gear to sound good, then you're in deep trouble may I add.

I'm sitting here doing my normal, listen, watch, read stuff on the internet with this video hadn't paid much attention to the product I just saw a new video and clicked. I'm reading a web page then I noticed the guitar playing and I thought.... that guitar tone sounds like something is missing and kind of dead. You've had some great tones out of much of the equipment you've reviewed, this isn't one of those! Typing this and listening I'm hearing that digital tone I hated with some of the old multi-effects units I owned in the 90's and sold without a seconds regret. Keep up the vids, Love em!!!

If Steve Howe can use an HD500 straight into the PA for his live sound then yes multifx are pretty viable for anything you'd like. This one sounds decent enough to me :)

Awesome review!! Just an idea..... thought it might be cool to try the pedal out with gear thats relative to it. So for example someone playing through a Victory V40 with 2016 Les Paul Standard probably won't then be buying a cheap multi fx. Could maybe try with amps and guitars that are closer price range to the pedal?

+Calum Harrison the tone can ever only really sounds as good as the worst part of the signal chain. A worse guitar won't help, but it won't make all that much of a difference.

Bit crushing guitar is some of the coolest sounding shit ever, if done properly. One trick is to not dial up the bit reduction to the max, because somewhere around 5-bits, the tonal range becomes too squashed to play melodically, and at 1-bit, it's basically just a distorted tone. Somewhere around 8 to 12 bits sounds great.

I like when you two give honest opinions about what you are reviewing. Sometimes if something just isn't quite there yet or not up to snuff, it's good to get an opinion that isn't a boast filled NAMM promo piece or a shameless plug on how great something is. Things like tone, latency, and usability in real giggling or recording situations is important. I know you have a job to make us want to buy it as you are a retailer but being candid sometimes is great to get an honest view of it. Thanks guys!

I just got this in from @Andertons Music Co and for my fellow US players who want this, let me assure you, you can power this off any US guitar pedal power supply that meets the 9VDC and 500ma rating requirements. I also got in touch with Hotone and they sold me an official US power supply that will be packaged with the US units for whenever they arrive in retailers. I didn't feel like waiting and I wanted to throw some business to Anderton's. I ordered this on Thursday evening and it arrived to me in Rhode Island by Monday. Anderton's A+, wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again.

I think that the bit crusher needs an LFO where the sweep duration is set in number of beats and a tap tempo to sync it to the music. I can visualise some pretty spaced out groovy sounds as the effect cycles around the music. The Ravo sounds nice. Playing it through expensive gear let us hear what it is capable of, but as others have commented it might be nice to see a budget rig using it. Actually that is an idea for a video - budget multi-FX rigs (guitar/FX/amp) for under £xxx - a Chappers vs The Captain challenge.

One thing I see sorely missing in these sorts of units is any acknowledgement that the electric guitar is rarely a solo instrument. So many of these patches overwhelm portions of the frequency spectrum that really should be reserved for other instruments in the mix.

You guys should dance when you start playing the songs. If you can dance to a pedal is always the single most important indicator if its a good pedal or not. Start shakin what you got and dance baby -- yeah baby yeah!

One problem with these budget multi fx pedals that only Zoom seem to have addressed with their G3/G5 series is - you can't turn off/on individual effects on the fly. Want to switch on OD or a phaser within a patch mid-song? Easy - stomp on the designated OD or phaser button. For me, that's the single most important feature why the Zoom line stands out over other brands.

Sounds better than the Mooer you reviewed not too long ago. I still think some of the slightly older pedals that started out more expensive but that have come down in price (Zoom G3X, Vox Tonelab etc) will offer more bang for the buck than these built to a budget units.

Dont understand why they dont add one more knob....a tone knob! A master tone knob. Almost every effect has one and its imperative to adjust it. With that said it was amazing that it sounded as well as it did without at east on tweak. I cant wait to play my Rob Chapman signature thou it lol.

my vox vt20+ provided me with my first dive in effects a few years ago. THing is, I dont need much more than a nice distortion, reverb and some delay on top of my clean sound to me satisfied. That said, I never tried a top notch distortion or reverb pedal or any pedal. A friend of mine bought a MultiFX pedal which had a lot of crappy stuff and the occasional good one (it had like 10 reverbs and 2 of them sounded kind okay) and I think if you start with effects you really should not get that. Better get one with one type of every effect. Usually those effect are good enough for a beginner (with effects, not necessarily on the guitar) and its not as confusing as when you have to choose from 10 versions of the same thing.

damn! hotone has tone id say! if they can make atleast additional 4 assignable buttons for making your selected presets, that would be great. like korg pandora stomp/mini/px5d has
