House Celtigar is an ancient and proud house, with the blood of old Valyria in its veins. Lord Crispian Celtigar served as master of coin to King Aegon I Targaryen. The Celtigars claim dominion over Crackclaw Point, but the inhabitants do not acknowledge their claim. When they surrendered peacefully to Queen Visenya Targaryen during the Aegon's Conquest, the people of Crackclaw were officially freed from pledging fealty to anyone but the Iron Throne. The Celtigars occasionally send men there to collect taxes. If Lord Celtigar sends enough collectors, a few come back to him. Celtigar Of Claw Isle Is one of the oldest houses in westeros and played a huge part in history in events such as the dance of the dragons and aegon's conquest being one of the firmest supporters of house targaryen before there fall and the rise of House Baratheon of Dragonstone and Stannis Baratheon.

it’s really funny how in HotD, where the Celtigars make their live action debut, they’re never mentioned as one of the last Valyrian houses to survive the Doom. It’s always the Velaryons and Targaryens that are mentioned (which makes sense since they’re the two powerful houses in the realm at the time). I doubt they’ll make an impact when Dany comes over but i really want to see how things play out when there’s a chance at a Targaryen restoration with either her or Faegon.

@thatoneblackdude3333 True. They didn't have dragons, and they didn't have a fleet the size of the Velaryons, so that left them as a rich house without much power projection. Still important legacy wise, just not on the grand scale of things I guess They are good with their coins though, like a "Lannister" version of a Valyrian house

Always thought we haven't gotten much out of this Valyrian house. Cool how they're also basically a very rich house that just keeps its wealth close to home. I've found it odd how a Celtigar was usually chosen as a Master of Coin for some time, yet they've never had any of their members married to the Targaryens or Velaryons as far as we see. Sure they didn't have the typical features, as it seems they've maybe been in Westeros longer than even the Velaryons and so had a disconnect for some time, but having some blood of the Dragon reinvigorated within them would've been a cool idea. And hey, who knows, mayhaps later when Dany arrives, a Celtigar will come to her aid. A Celtigar riding a dragon would be a cool way to make an Old Valyrian comeback. Mayhaps with a Velaryon on the other. It sounds like a fanfic but, a Targaryen, Velaryon, and Celtigar riding on Dragons as they return to Westeros for another Targaryen Conquest would be a truly epic Valyrian Dragonlord moment.

I feel like Edwel put those taxes in place to try and set up Jaehaerys to take the throne with good will think about it he could bleed the realm and get as much gold as he could and then the boy comes to power and poof all these unpopular taxes are gone like a bad dream all hail jaehaerys if that is the case it was rather well done

The Celtigars can’t get cut out from future HOTD episodes because (spoiler alert) Bartimos Celtigar’s horrendous tax policy is one of the main causes of the massive King’s Landing riots that effectively ended Rhaenyra’s reign in King’s Landing. Those riots won’t make sense otherwise!

Kinda sucks to be a Celtigar, being from Valyria and yet no dragons to their name at all..... They may have been good with money but they clearly weren't rich enough in the freehold to get a dragon... or Their's died in the Doom..... Even the Veleryons got Vhagar and Seasmoke for a time!

There's more than _3_ houses of Valyrian origin in Westeros; Targs (obviously) - Velaryons (just about as obvious) - Celtigar (d'uh) - however, you forget that the *_Baratheon's_* are also of Valyrian descent: it was an open secret that Orys Baratheon was Aerion Targaryen's bastard, & half-brother of the Conqueror- but it seems that the Valyrians didn't adopt all Westerosi customs, like the bastard names, before the Conquest. There's actually little known of traditions surrounding bastardy in Essos. I suppose the reason the Baratheons elude the conversation- despite the multiple marriages with Targaryen's, is, in part- because they adopted the arms & words of the Durrandon's, through Orys' marriage to its' end-of-line heiress - & in the other part, (possibly) because they weren't one of the 40 Families of Dragonlords of Valyria, Orys didn't possess the 'classically Valyrian looks', of pale hair & purple/ light eyes And there's also the *_Qoherys_* , who didn't survive past the first century after the Conquest- but they were *still* of Valyrian descent.

If you want to build on that even further you could also argue House Baratheon of Dragonstone, Storms End and King's Landing are a separate entities. Plus there is some suggestion there are at least a couple of Baratheon cadet houses, but they may very well be Durrandon we don't know yet. Plus i guess you could make a case that House Longwaters is both a cadet house of both House Targaryen and Velaryon which would technically mean they were of Valyrian descent even if they didn't come from there.

@@WorldOfWesteros I recall there's a Stormlands house- Wensington, I think- that has the Durrandon/ Baratheon colours reversed, in part of its' arms - I can't think of any others off the top of my head; though I think they *do* predate the Conquest, so they must be Durrandon (& thus First Men/ Andal) in origin...

@@m.williams4971 We don't actually know that- we just know that they were not dragonlords. Dragonstone was Valyria's westernmost outpost (settled for some two centuries by the time of his arrival) - it's probable that whoever was governing it, prior to Aenar's arrival (with his wives- as well as siblings, kin, children & supporters, according to 'Fire & Blood') was not a dragonlord- & thus gave way to him, because he came with 5 dragons. Because Valyria didn't have the 'bastard name' convention of Westeros, Baratheon could have been his (Orys') mother's family name- or even his mother's husband's name -- a lot in relation to the Valyrian Freehold is still all rather speculative, until GRRM reveals more - we only know like two or three dragonlord families' names, _including_ the Targaryens, out of like the 40 that there were said to be...
