House Finch Call

The sound of a House Finch calling is not going to blow you away, but they are sweet and similar to the contact type calls you hear from Goldfinches. House Finches love to raise their broods right on or around out houses and are such earnest and friendly birds.

I don't see these guys much where I live, but a few years ago, one picked my porch as it's final resting spot. He/she new where to go, because I love birds so I gave him/her a proper burial.

That's awesome!! If it was red like the one in the video it was probably male but if it was mostly browns it was female 🥰🥰

If it was red it’s a male. I have them Ravens, Crows, scrub jays, doves and chickadees that come around. The male finches will come up to me and same with the raven and crows. The raven has started to say “hello” now in the mornings when she stops by for food.

I didn't know these birds lived in our backyard until I started filling one of the bird feeders with safflower seed. Now I see these little sweethearts in our backyard all the time. Seeing them always brightens my day.

This time of year they are tearing my bird feeder up! Swarming it - driving the poor Cardinals - who have staked out their territory- CRAZY! LOL! They also have a beautiful little melodic song they will sing. My males have been so pretty this year. Love little Red House Finches!

I was walking in a park today and heard a call. I said, there's gotta be an app that identifies bird calls. I found Merlin, downloaded it. Wow. It is so cool. This finch was one that I recorded. Going to a video really helps after you see the app id the birds. So thanks.

Lovely video, BB. I have some House Finches here in SoCAL. The males are so colorful & I love their little songs! I often wonder what this world would be without birds to entertain & fascinate us. I'd say quite boring & empty! Thanks for another great video! ♥

I live in the city and have a backyard with grass and birdbath and have been feeding birds with Blackoil sunflower seeds for the past 6 months and I have seen a community of mourning doves about 12, a mating pair of cardinals, robins, squirrels, house finches, tons of sparrows and a skunk. The bird sounds are beautiful throughout the day but especially every morning and evening.

We get a lot of house finches in our back yard, but I didn't know what their song sounds like (maybe because there are usually lots of other birds around). Glad to see this little guy seems healthy - there's a bacterial eye infection that affects a lot of house finches. I saw a few birds that were affected in winter / early spring, but lately the ones around here seem OK.

I wondered if they were the same. Mine, in Ohio, we've always called purple headed finch. It never made much sense. I wonder if they are the same bird?
@bird.passion
@bird.passion 4 года назад
Purple finches and house finches are two different species but they look similar. Purple finches are slightly stockier with a larger head and thicker neck. House finches are a classic red or red-orange, while purple finches are more of a dark raspberry red color. Purple finches also have much more extensive red extending on the crown, nape, back, chest, cheeks, and flanks. The red on house finches is more confined to the forehead, brow, and upper chest.
