House GOP leaders sending members home for the week amid deep divisions and looming shutdown 

They might as well stay home for the remainder of their terms, since they literally refuse to do ANYTHING.

Since when do we, as Americans, pay the salaries of public servants to do nothing but spread lies, undermine our democracy, and leave with no accomplishments? This is not only frustrating but also our responsibility to vote them out of office.

These are the types of leaders we need; this is refreshing to hear; I get sick and tired of hearing from the extremist all of the time.

I am a long-time Democrat, but I appreciate the sense and level headedness of both of these men.

Trump is responsible for the BIGGEST portion of our nation's spending debt. We must not hurt families to reduce the debt. Yes, reduce spending, but also hold the very richest responble.

Repubs want to cut spending ?!? Trump dumped $270 million on Gitno, which ran up the cost of each inmate there from $30,000/day to $40,000 day. I can build 3 houses for $40,000, yet that's how much Republicans (via the Navy) spends for EACH inmate EACH day.

Simplest solution is to put up the Senate bills for a vote in the House. They would pass. But McCarthy would have his speakership moved to vacate. And, McCarthy values being Speaker more than he does the nation. The country could burn and McCarthy would not care so long as he was sitting in the Speaker's Office when he turned to ashes.

The thing about the cost of supporting Ukraine in defending its country from Russia now is that it costs Americans relatively less to stop Russia now rather than allowing Russia to win in Ukraine and allow Russia's war of conquest to spread to other countries in Europe. Countries in Europe could fall like dominoes one by one to Russia if it sees that the West do not have the resolve to stop its lawlessness. And that may result in a war that is more protracted, a lot longer to finish, a whole lot more expensive for Americans living paycheck to paycheck, and it may come to the point where Americans soldiers may have to go there to fight a bigger war. And not only that. Imagine if Ukraine falls under the control of Putin and takes control of the Ukrainian army. Can anyone imagine how that exponentially multiplies the trouble that could follow for the free world? So, it is better and relatively less costly for the world to support Ukraine achieve decisive victory now.

If no one wants a shutdown, then pass a law that prohibits shutdowns. The laws can state that the agencies will continue with their previous year’s budget until the new budget is approved.

These two Representatives are great examples of how the government used to work and needs to work again. I don't remember a time where my grandfather who was a die hard Democrat stopped talking to my father who was a die hard Republican. We debated and discussed as a family but never were so polarized as people are today. Congrats for not being a part of the "circus" and reminding people of how things should be done. America has had enough hate and polarization.

We can't afford letting the bully win ! If NATO Countries stand united, it will be done properly and send a clear message to aggressors. Otherwise, we will be perceived as all bluff.

Instead of working together to curtail government spending in order to balance the federal budget, how about repealing at least some of the tax cuts to the wealthy that have done absolutely nothing for America or the American people beyond making the wealthy more wealthy. ALL Americans prospered decades ago before forty years of Republican no-trickle-down economics (including Trump's enormous tax cuts and record deficits), and wealth disparity in America was not exploding out of control as it is today.

These new GOP Republicans don't care about anything but themselves... We must vote in better candidates and get the riff raff out...

Listening to this report is really scary. In 2012 our credit rating was downgraded from AAA plus to AAA. Now it is only AA plus. This hard to acknowledge. I don’t want the United States government to get a worse rating. These ideological differences can be resolved by creating ways to increase economic activity in different industries and by reducing waste in dying industries. For instance, there is no longer a need to keep logging wood lands when we can add bidets to bathrooms, change how we go to the bathroom form sitting on a toilet to squatting over it and substitute bamboo toilet paper. We can also find other ways to reduce packaging costs and gradually phase out packaging and the use of the printing press. The benefits that we develop changing business practices in certain industries can be passed on to others markets where there’s a demand for it.

Now that McCarthy has sent his unruly children to their bedrooms, maybe he can negotiate with those remaining republicans who take their elected positions and our Nations government seriously.

What Americans don't seem to understand is that Vladimir Putin is the reason why we have high gas prices in the first place. Just food for thought.

Why can democrats not just push the message of how much spending increased in the Trump era? The inability to message easy messages is so disheartening, over and over again. 3.9 Trillion in additional deficits during the Trump years...

We need to reduce “spending”? How about we reduce the massive tax cuts to the wealthy! That will more than make up for the money the GOP CLAIMS to be concerned about! And what about that $7.8 trillion dollars of deficit that GOP added to the debt? You didn’t have any trouble “spending” then!

I like to see bipartisan conversation and committment to getting things done, as these two Congressmen are doing. That's the way our House should work. If a few extremists aren't playing, remove their extremist riders from the Bills (yeah I've read it), and work to get a bipartisan deal that will pass in the House without them. The American people shouldn't have to pay for their folly.
