I agree with the notion that Leyton Hightower is able to make use of a glass candle. Maybe lots of Lord Hightowers have. This could be the origin of the idea that you can see the Wall from the top of the Hightower. You can't PHYSICALLY see it, but with a glass candle. . .

I think they’ve moved on to being able to do it with standard quartz, too, given their collection of magics from different systems and experiments using the chopped down weirwood they had the faithful of the seven bring them. There’s way too much going on in common between Glass Candles’ phylactery AND remote viewing/dream interference function compared to the Weirwoodnet for them to not have made the leap over the millennia since the trees were cut down, the septs were erected, and the maesters whispered materialist disinformation into the ears of every learned person they ever interacted with, discounting conflicting (true) lore as wives’ tales until no one important in Westeros other than the Hightowers and their few select maesters ACTUALLY educated in magic (rather than just put in a room with a glass candle overnight with no instructions) remember any of it.

LOVE the reinterpretation of the hightower vs. targaryen struggle for power both being driven by a greater prophetic good. I've often thought, "I wonder why the Targaryens never told folks why it was so important that they rule" (Only telling your heir seemed a bit risky to lose such knowledge, especially given the relative instability of Iron Throne succession), but the idea that there are multiple families (i.e. also the Starks) feeling compelled by prophecy to seek/maintain power to save the world is really compelling!

love this video very eye opening, the maester conspiracy has always fascinated me- it makes alot of sense to me that they would do all this conspiracy because they feared the long night coming back again, but it also makes me wonder if that is the reason they kept the magical artifacts instead of destroying them just in case the long night happens and they can stop it some how.

The Hightowers not getting involved in the War of the Five Kings is interesting to me. Most conflicts they either steer clear of, or search for practical terms to come to for the sake of peace and stability. The Dance of the Dragons was a rare situation where the Hightowers actually took part in an offensive situation, but they did it for their family, so it makes sense They're a House that so many underestimate and don't know the true history of. It's a shame too, since HotD came out, so many assumed the Hightowers were a secondary or lesser house, and yet they've been the prominent power in the Reach since the Dawn Age. Well before the likes of the Starks or the Lannisters, etc

Don't forget the similarities between the Hightower and Barad-dûr: "Barad-dûr is the tallest structure in Middle-earth, standing at around 4,600 feet tall. It took the Servants of Sauron almost 600 years to build. The Eye of Sauron, known as Lugbúrz in Black Speech, keeps watch over Middle-earth from its highest tower."

He most definitely has a glass candle up there. If he communicates with people in the citadel he would definitely not write off any of the big brains there. He and Marwyn would definitely be talking the most. A general rule of thumb in this world is always listen to the one everyone calls a fool. They speak the most truth. But treat the ones shouting "fool" and their willful disbelief with the most caution. He most definitely knows. Amazing work as always. Another excellent video Amanda! I always thought that the Hightower its self looked like a weirwood with its pale stone trunk and red fire at the top (Weirwoods red leaves being described as a blaze of flame) And as you’ve said, Leyton Hightower, who is within this symbolic weirwood, might “raise an army from the deeps“ Which ties into the woods witch, who presumably worship weirwoods, claiming to be able to raise an army from the dead as well But interestingly George also mentions that Orland of Oldtown sings of “dead kings beneath the sea” while in Winterfell Which together with Leyton Hightowers idea of raising an army from beneath the sea, from within his symbolic Weirwood, could suggest the idea of an army of dead kings being raised up from beneath the greensea of the Weirwoods And it just so happens we have an army of dead kings heavily foreshadowed to rise from beneath a weirwood at Winterfell A place that is also described as labyrinthian like the base of the Hightower, and was built by Brandon the Builder just as the Hightower was Thanks again for the amazing content! And I promise to stop talking about the Kings of Winter one day sorry lol
@TheDisputedLands
@TheDisputedLands 8 месяцев назад
Yes! I noticed that too! I think it is foreshadowing of the return of Azor Ahai/Grey King/Argoth. The dead king under the sea is the grey king who descended to the drowned gods watery halls to sit at the right hand of the drowned god or said another way, azor ahai. What is dead may never die... but rises. Although I agree the place he is truly trapped is the wwnet. The Hightower will be the key to unlocking it. I did a mazemaker video, it seems the mazes are a way man was able to manipulate or harness the same magic.

Great Video as Always! Indeed all the hidden identity theories about Layton and Malora have issues, plus the epithet Mad for Mallora points to involvement maybe with visions or in general deeper knowledge, and the similarities you pointed out with the Prologues are excellent and also connected them to "flying" often associating with dreams and visions! That being said Uthor to me sounds way more like Euron and Stone-Skin like Victarion wanting the most beautiful maid in the World.
@TheDisputedLands
@TheDisputedLands 8 месяцев назад
Hey thank you so much! They were likely brothers, and I dont think Uthor was innocent. GRRM prefers grey characters and AA was the king of grey meaning that he wasnt wholly evil, well at least not initially. Ive been talking about a grey transformation that occurred with the Grey King for awhile now. Similar to MS&T the Storm King wasnt always bad, it was the transformation that turned him, something happened and he was never the same and had to be put down. Ultimately there is a lot going on with the suppression of knowledge surrounding the Long Night and I think the Hightowers had a hand in that suppression. Uthor was no saint, he likely killed him and stole his woman and is just as grey. They defeated him, of that Im sure but I think the first Hightower had caused him to be the way he was. I dont think taking only two brothers to compare is the best approach because we have both Balon and Aeron's story arc and archetype to contend with and we have all these other instances to examine where we see parallels like with the Hound and the Mountain, the Dragonknight and Aegon V, bloodraven and Bittersteel, Maekar and Baelor Breakspear, even Ned and Robert if you get into the weeds of things. With each of the brotherly dynamics we are getting hints but to use only one example can close us off to the bigger picture.

@@TheDisputedLands Yes! We also see the bitter and grey, cold, steel siblings in characters that are neither second sons nor male. I had another thought that ties into one of your other videos (and then I promise ill stop lol) If the Hightower looks like a Weirwood with its red flame atop, it’s interesting that when the Hightower’s call forth their banners, or “raise an army” the fire atop becomes Green. Giving us the Hightower as a symbolic weirwood with green leaves, which, are often described as looking like hands Calling to mind the Order of the Green Men, an army of warriors tied to the weirwoods formed around the time of the long night Furthering this idea of an army waking from the weirwoods yet again
@TheDisputedLands
@TheDisputedLands 8 месяцев назад
Wonderfully put! I talk about the Grey king having this brotherly conflict with a "garth-type" figure (which I now believe to be Uthor) and I think this really illustrates the symbolism of the green hand theme as well as the throw back to the original weirwoods. I believe the weirwoods turning were a direct result of the long night conflict so having a symbolic return of the "green hand" tree is very thematic. This explains the rationale behind all the green symbolism the Hightowers have been given in the show as well as books ("blacks against the greens" is almost a neon sign waving at us).

David Lightbringer presented a really interesting theory from The World of Ice and Fire that House Hightower, Velaryon, and Dayne were all the remnants of the Great Empire of the Dawn and went to Westeros as refugees from the Bloodstone emperor. He also asserts that Asshai-by-the-Shadow is actually the wasteland left over from this emperor's blood magic which brought destruction upon his empire and brought on the Long Night.

This is a masterpiece! You are the first RU-vidr that made an intriguing, comprehensive and compelling enough content to convince me into becoming a member. With that being said I think there are some questions which are still to be theorized and analyzed. Who was this Uthor of the High Tower. Which was his real connection to Azor Ahai, for him to be the one to finally defeat the archvillain of the series for good? His name is interesting as it sounds pretty similar to Uther Pendragon, father of King Arthur. His epithet basically meant head-dragon. So was he related to bloodstone emperor? Like Azor Ahai there is an AA, character in the Arthurian mythology: Ambrosius Aurelianus, who was Uther Pendragon older brother. There is a theory regarding house Hightower that says that alongside the closely located house Dayne, they are descended from an ancient people, that had the same looks as the Valyrians, the people from the great empire of the dawn. Did Uthor, a stranger from across the Sunset Sea, married a Westerosi princess in order to integrate and gain the trust of the westerosi people, and fought alongside them against his own kin? What are the influences of the Arthurian legends if there is any connection of it to our story? Who the hell was Argoth Stoneskin, and is his name something of a reference to greyscale? Maris the maid??? Also are we 100% sure Leyton is really trying to prevent the new long night and the revival of Azor Ahai, or does he have something else planned in his hind? Maybe he is good intended tho, but as you suggested previously from another misunderstanding of prophecies in their efforts to prevent his return they will accidentally help bringing him back. There are multiple possibilities… I hope some will inspire you to bring even more light to the story in the future episodes. Which shall we expect to be the subject of the next one?
@TheDisputedLands
@TheDisputedLands 8 месяцев назад
I did a video about the grey king and Garth Greenhand. There are some pretty strong fratricidal clues beyond the slaying of the amethyst empress pointing toward a brotherly garth-like figure. It is my belief that uthor was probably the same figure as Garth gardener. I can tell you for certainty that uthor was the same guy as serwyn of the mirror sheild. The guy from the age of heroes from the reach who saved the princess daeryssa (sounds like nissa) from giants and slew a dragon. Whereas we have argoth who stole maris from the grey giant and put and end to dragons on battle isle. I discuss the Arthurian connection in my ironborn video about the grey king's mermaid wife. Company of the cat also has a video discussing this as well that I highly recommend.

Great vid as always Amanda , always look forward to each release from you. I agree with you about the tinfoil regarding Leyton & Malora potentially going about using different identities. With Leyton especially given how prominent and recognizable he is (especially locally) i never put much credence in those theories. And really ruling from the shadows is very much the HT way ; aside from the DotD which blew up in their faces its always been their preferred M.O. Especially via wielding massive influence via their patronage and interconnections with the Citadel and the Faith. Very much pulling the strings from the shadows ; smartly instead of being more figure-heads they get the power and influence with much less scrutiny or ire. Leyton may have taken it to the extreme but not being overly visible isn't something new with the HTs and in this case provides the adequate time and environment for Leyton's & Malora's magical endeavors. I really look forward to seeing how the HT arc shakes out ; Leyton & Malora will literally and figuratively have to come down from their ivory tower due to all these impending threats. More imminently and locally Euron but also the Others and the return of the dragons , just impossible to stay out of such matters. Leyton certainly seems to be dabbling in magic , including likely use of a glass candle , so surely well aware of these upcoming threats. Which makes sense he is long preparing to use magical interventions against each. Especially against Euron's fleet / forces and most importantly seeming sorcery of EG's own, surely a magical counter-offensive is required. Makes sense the HTs having similar foresight regarding and magical aids & potential solutions for the other threats (dragons and the Others etc).
@AndrewK23777
@AndrewK23777 8 месяцев назад
I also really like your theory about Uthor potentially taking out dragons at Battle Isle. Not only because of the Arthurian connections with his namesake (how Uther dealt with dragons in Arthurian legends), though that is a hint there. But also the HTs if they have GEotD lineage as many of us suspect ; they likely had inside knowledge in that respect , being the GEotD was likely the original dragon riding civilization. Even more so if the HTs were more the Velaryon role , have the look but were mariner / merchants lets say without dragons in the GEotD ; makes sense they would have such knowledge defeating dragons and potentially some built in resentment against them.

@AndrewK23777
@AndrewK23777 7 месяцев назад
@@nunyabiznes33 thats quite possible as well , certainly has a similar look / shape for one and the beacon at the top no less. And we know there is built-in magic at / in the Hightower ; between the likely GEotD fused stone base, as well as the likely magic that comes with Bran the Builder construction projects (seemingly with CotF help in that respect). So the strucutre itself is quite magical and could absolutely be viewed the way you suggest. Or at the least would certainly massively amplify any glass candle used at that location and / or any other magic used there i would suspect ; especially coupled with the sheer size of the structure. The GEotD base especially seems pertinent as being the likely original dragon-riding civilization , the other tech was probably originally developed there (GEotD) as well - like glass candles , dragon-steel etc.

While I always appreciate some good tinfoil theories, if they were all true, then every character in Westeros is actually Howland Reed (or some other obscure character) in disguise. I do love some of the more obscure tidbits of the story - there are a few that stand out to me, and this is one of them. It's always a mystery which minor characters and plots will emerge as a more important player or event later on, and I do hope this is one of those tidbits that is expanded upon in Winds.

Do you think someone would know what was happening to them (like the wildling lady Varamyr Six Sinks tried to take, or is it possible they wouldn't know? And do you think there might be a hidden character (other than Hodor, or maybe Roose Bolton) who's had their skin stolen?

"Then Euron lifted a great horn to his lips and blew, and dragons and krakens and SPHINXES came at his command and bowed before him."... That's from Damphair's Shade of the Evening vision. The Citadel has two guarding the main entrance and also two guarding the bridge to Marwyn's chamber IIRC. Have anyone considered that valyrian dragons are actually sphinxes? That's a theory that just came to me searching for this quote haha I've been recently trying to spread my theory that there are actually two types of dragons: Green/natural dragons like the three wild ones or the ones whose remains are used to shut Barth's theories down by the Citadel AND blood magic dragons that are actually the ones created by valyrians to use them to gain power, now I am starting to believe that they are actually sphinxes or chimeras done mixing wyverns, firewyrms and humans..... In Sam's chapters Is said that maester Aemon asked him to read from Barth's book and he starts to talk about the "sphinx Is the riddle, not the riddler". Oh crap....

Hello, excelent video as always, I have the theory that the Hightowers will pair up with Euron (Euron and Leyton have many similarities with Sauron and Saruman), also another thing I feel is important and people keep overlooking is the title the Mad Maid, they always focus on the mad part, but why is she a Maid being the first-born daughter that is uncommon, what I am getting at is if you have read Stephen King's "The Stand" Malora and Euron give me Nadine Cross and Randall Flagg vibes

Yay, a new Amanda video that's making a boring train ride more exciting! Only loosely related to this, but I would also be interested in your thoughts about the recent Bloodmoon pilot leaks regarding Andals during the Long Night and how this fits with the Great Empire of the Dawn etc. If this requires becoming a member of your channel or a Patreon, I will do it! 😉
@TheDisputedLands
@TheDisputedLands 8 месяцев назад
You are referring to the Alabaster video regarding the Andals vs the Great Empire, yes? My two cents is that they (Alabastur & LmL) are both correct. There is a line in the world book to suggest this and it deals with when Valyria rose... 5000 yrs ago. it also mentions this occurred after the fall of the long night. Meaning that what dragonlords were left settled into what was most likely originally a great empire outpost that would became the valyrian Freehold. Although there is a large amount of suppression of knowledge from the Citadel to question the great empire's existence. With the andals we see a lot of effort has been done to push the timeline of the long night as far back as 10,000 years but there is enough evidence to suggest it was 5000 years ago (grrm has even confirmed this). But there has been a suppression of knowledge in order to dissociate the andals from any involvement in the long night. If this is the case, well then we are looking at both civilizations being contemporaries to one another and we need to figure out how the two relate. Lml has gone on record to suggest he believes the faith of the seven could be a shootoff religion from the church of starry wisdom. The Andals also have blonde hair, the andals also have house names that sound very absurdly valyrian like house Allyrion. I think company of the cat has a video on the topic of the similarities if you want to check that out. The question we should be asking is why there has been this suppression of knowledge and who was/is behind it. Ultimately we shouldn't be asking ourselves which one is correct and which one is wrong, we should ask ourselves how they can both be correct and why.

@@TheDisputedLands Thanks! Yes, I'm referring to Alabastur's video (a perfect example of German Schadenfreude btw.) and yes, these are exactly my thoughts on this topic. I think both LML and Alabastur have a solid point about the GEotD and the Andals, respectively, that they are not necessarily mutually exclusive and that you can reconcile them by solving and fixing the timeline. As a scientist, I'm used to looking at conflicting data which is nevertheless supported by evidence. If this is the case, then your underlying working hypothesis needs to be adjusted to incorporate seemingly mutually exclusive evidence. That's why I asked you in the first place, because your videos incoporate all evidence and can bridge the perceived contradictions between other timeline theories. They are definitely among the most conclusive and insightful ones out there!

@@TheDisputedLands I do, because you stick to the facts, and your conclusions are always backed up by multiple lines of hard evidence. Many other theorists out there seem to be so convinced of their own ideas that they overinterpret little details, bend the facts exclusively in a way to support their conclusions, ignore alternative interpretations and even rely on very weak evidence, while your approach is far less biased (assuming that people can never be truly unbiased). That's why I finally joined your community (my first payed membership on YT btw ).

Great work as always Amanda! I can't find any glaring holes, it ties things together nicely and gives an actual real motive to the Maester Conspiracy. Hey, thanks Brennan! Its a good question, and I dont have a definitive answer, nut I will say that he definitely has a larger role as he travels to Mereen to advise Danny, this larger role may be why he is off limits. Maybe its because AA is dead in a "what is dead may never die" kind of way. If he is in the WWnet, he should be released first to be killed "really dead" this time around. So working for Euron could also be part of the plan to give him "the gift of dead" in his new AA form afterwards, and making sure the others/the ones imprisoned in the WWnet also get released to a real death or the end of their slavement to AA

I wonder if the Hightower's interest in prophecy and magic started because of Alicent's interaction with the Targaryen's and her interest in it, plus the fact her daughter is literally psychic so maybe that was the starting point of the Hightower's connection to the prophecy?

So will Euron's bride seen in the Aeron's vision be Cersei or Mallora the Mad? If it's Mallora the Mad does this mean the Hightowers switch sides over to Euron/bloodstone Emperor? Is this because of the Hightowers tendency to use schemes and appeasement to subdue their foes, the motif of the Grey King killing Garth and taking his stuff, or both?

It almost fits, except that the origin of dragons that worked with humans is Valyria, so even if the dragons originated in Ashai, they were not the companions and or magical relatives of the Empire of the Dawn people, the likely proto Valyrians. So whoever Uthor dislodged, they were not dragons or dragonriders, that's a later superimposition of Andal chroniclers writing down the legend of the First Men who did not do written language at least at that ancient time. To make matters more confusing, the First Men legends being transcribed were about not themselves but these peoples like the Daynes and the Ironmen who had invaded and settled on their coasts and islands and had only PARTLY naturalized.

I'm just spitballing here, but what if everyone's magic is stronger in those specific places because so much death has happened there? All of the magic we see actually work are related to paying the price with blood, so the more death that happens somewhere (especially soldier deaths since that really is a sacrifice-you send people out knowing some will fall), the more power exists to use. Kind of like sacrifices waiting in the ether to be used. OR those places have more (historical) involvement of the Children of the Forest, and it's their influence adding to the power available
@TheDisputedLands

They are definitely thin spaces, my guess is that you are correct about the amount of death and blood spilt being directly related.

This might be a fringe view but I don't trust the whole azor ahai dragons are the saviors of everything Considering that the Robert frost poem says both ice and fire would destroy the world but he even favors fire to do so, ironically with prophecy the three heads of the dragon may doom the world whilst trying to prevent its destruction. In zoroastrian mythology (which Martin clearly copied for rhllor [ahura mazda] and the great other [angra mainyu or ahriman]) there's a figure who I believe grrm copied the bloodstone emperor from: zahhak the son of ahriman who has two snake heads of his shoulders aka the dragon has three heads, so maybe the prophecy is evil and used to manipulate its recipients. I find it weird for asoiaf to end in a battle of good versus evil, I think the others are victims (they are otherized). grrm said that he based some of the aspects of the story in climate change, which will displace a lot of people and lead to conflicts. So I think instead the others will have to be given reparations Ned said " I cannot give you back your homes or restore your dead to life but perhaps I can give you justice in the name of your king", the I cannot restore your dead to life draws immediate attention to the others, who perhaps will have to be given back their homes to give them justice.

His sons would never take orders from her, never seeing their father for 10 years, let alone all the other officials that he/she would be ruling through. This is a very reasonable position for you to take. The rest of the theories of being other people are just as likely as substituting any other characters with zero information. I wouldn't be surprised though if Marwin is sponsored by L. Hightower. It would be difficult for Marwin to survive at the level he was at, doing what he's doing and being who he is without a powerful benefactor.
