“The queen who never was” was not shady towards Rhaenys, they’re basically saying she should be the queen and not Viserys. It was more of a diss towards Viserys that’s why Otto said he could take his tongue.

If you listen closely after viserys names the child, you could hear it choking.

A breach birth is a death sentence for the mother. If baby is cut out mother will die due to blood loss. If unable to birth/remove baby the mother will die a slow painful death. Its choosing to give baby a chance to survive.

The child was breached. The Queen and child was going to die no matter what because the baby wouldn’t come out. The king chose to try and save the baby. I hate that he didn’t tell the Queen.

It took me a couple of rewatches to catch Queen Aemma's predicament, but if I'm not mistaken, I do think she was going to die either way. The Maester told Viserys that he could attempt to save the baby or lose them both. I just wish he had told her of the situation before going through with it.

They evolved to have silver hair and purple eyes after discovering dragons and practicing blood magic in Valyria.

Guys the choice from the maester basically was either to try and save the unborn child, or leave it with the gods and possibly lose both the wife and the kid. There was never a choice to save just the wife. They didn't have the means to get the baby out of her without cutting her. Many women died in birth in the past, before medical science went forward. It was very common, unfortunately. This mirrors that difficulty in medieval times. It's not a decision to kill his wife. You completely misunderstood.

Remember that Targaryens practiced incest. Viserys and Aemma were first cousins. His parents were brother and sister and his grandparents. Viserys, Aemma, Daemon and Rhaenys are all grandchildren of King Jaehaerys I (the old king from the first scene). Rhaenys was the oldest. The only child of Jaehaerys' eldest son, Aemon. Viserys and Daemon are the children of Jaehaerys' second son, Baelon, and Jaehaerys' daughter, Alyssa. Aemma is the daughter of Jaehaerys' 2nd eldest daughter, Daella. Jaehaerys outlived all his children and his wife. The Queen who Never Was title isn't an insult but a positive title. They're basically saying she should be Queen. The Baratheons supported Rhaenys because Rhaenys is half Baratheon through her mother.

(as well as gold hair and purple or blue eyes in the books) Not sure if you know the lore, but they’re the only two families with dragons that escaped Old Valyria before The Doom due to a vision that a dreamer had that forsaw the distruction. They fled (and their dragons too) west to what is now Dragonstone and Driftmark. The Doom was a catastrophic natural disaster that destroyed Old Valyria (several volcanic eruptions that destroyed everything). This happened 100 years before Aegon I conquered the 7 Kingdoms. Valryian is their native language, and its so great to hear it spoken by the Targaryens! This is why their looks and language sound so unique in comparison to everyone else. There are those in the free cities with Old Valyrion heritage that also have these physical features!

One of the few people who will always have Daemon's allegiance is his brother Viserys. Daemon will offend him and annoy him, but he would never harm him or usurp him.

No.. I guess you can technically say he killed Aemma, yes, but not really. Aemma was going to die regardless, and at that point, it was only really a question of if Baelon could be saved. The Maester, who was essentially the person who filled the role of physician in the House of Dragons fantasy, gave his opinion that if the birth was allowed to proceed without intervention, both the mother and the baby would both die. It was his medical opinion that she was going to die regardless if they did the Caesarean section (cut open the womb and bring the baby out) or if they did nothing. He told King Viserys that he had to make a choice, to leave it with the Gods (meaning allow them both to die or take a chance that the baby would eventually be born) but based on his experience, it was his medical opinion that the baby was breach (coming out feet first) and was not able to pass the birth canal) or they could choose to intervene and save the baby, knowing that most likely Aemma would die from blood loss as a result of the Caesarean section. So, Viserys did not murder her, but she died as a result of his decision, his order as King. He did not order her to be killed, but he ordered the operation that led to her dying. You could argue that the Maester murdered her, under orders, but I don’t think most would see it that way. I believe Viserys made the best choice he could given the information, either way Aemma would die. there was no "save" option.

I LOVED this series so much and cant wait for season 2! It IS easier to follow because it concentrates on one major storyline with a lot of characters, but not as many as GoT. Its a littlex easier to follow.

Commenting again but it's better to watch this show without trying to apply character dynamics from Game of Thrones to this because it's more about one family here. I'm not really talking about comparing characters but as the show goes on a lot of GOT fans try to compare situations on HOTD to GOT when that show was more expansive in my opinion. There are certain things that will be tolerated because the Targaryens are the royal family here and they're also still considered foreigners by Westeros so they have to keep their kin close. They realize they're the last of their race (Valyrians and dragon riders) so it's a bit complicated when family members act out.

The names do get confusing because of time jump with different actors and these fuckers keep pumping out kids

Sophie your correct. HOTD is more "focused" and contained than GOT. Think of it like this, GOTD main focus was on the 7 kingdoms and HOTD main focus will be house Targaryan and their fall from great power. I live it because it gives me GOT but also it's own thing and don't have to live up or follow in the shadows of the OG show. It allows it to be it's own thing.

If you go back and listen carefully after they say the baby is a boy and he named him you can hear the baby boy choking.

House VELARYON (the Black man Corlys is married to Rhaenys Targaryen) the Velaryons are seafarers and the wealthiest at the moment with a fleet of ships. House Velaryon is also a house from old Valyria like the Targaryens. House Velaryon rules Driftmark and Corlys and Rhaenys has two children that you will learn by name later. Their children are also dragon riders. House Velaryon was still around during the Game of Thrones era by the way but the show didn’t really go into it. House HIGHTOWER (Otto and Alicent) is the most politically prominent house with a lot of influence. They’re from The Reach, specifically Oldtown. Oldtown is seen as the cultural and intellectual beacon of the seven kingdoms. It’s one of the biggest cities. Otto is the hand of the king and the second son in house Hightower, his older brother rules. Margaery Tyrell’s mother is a Hightower. The Hightowers also have a close relationship with the High Septon and the faith of the seven. You will come across other houses that sound more familiar like Stark, Baratheon, Lannister, etc but for now those three are the ones you have to really know about for now.

Your problem is that you talk through the beats(mini-plotpoints in a script) of a scene as they happen. Wait for the beat to drop, just like in music. You dont need to catch the entire interlude or prologue of a scene to understand what is happening. But you will miss a lot if you talk through the beat of a scene, which is one of tje few moments a piece of film tells you something instead of showing it.

The Alicent-Rhaenyra "lost friendship" aspect IS the central driving force of Hotd. It's what provides the show with its emotion, angst & tragedy. Anyone who do not understand this is because they are a petulant Targ Cultist for whom scoring Sports Team dunks is more important than the beauty of the story. They get mad that hotd dares to have substance and nuance instead of being their self-inserf silver queen warlord cosplay/targsryen apology show.
