The secret of the prophesy definitely stopped being passed down at some point... I personally think maybe it died with Rhaegar at the Battle of the Trident when he fought Robert Baratheon, with neither him nor the Mad King having time to pass it along to Viserys (the GoT version). Because Rhaegar certainly did seem to know the prophesy. Anyhow, good to see you back Sonny and glad everything has been going well for your family.

As to the knowledge of the long night not being handed down, there’s a theory that when the Mad King was saying burn them all, he meant not only his enemies, but the white walkers as well, and after he was killed by Jaime he was in no position to pass on the knowledge to Robert, if he even would do so

Certainly an effective juxtaposition, the violence we're used to seeing, that people who watched Game of Thrones likely weren't bothered by, compared to a different violence we're not as used to seeing. Sorry you had to watch that so close to your own experience but congrats to all!

Every time Viserys tells the prophecy to his daughter Rhaenyra, in the background begins the theme of Daenerys Targaryen.

The prophecy scene only happened cause GRRM confirmed Aegon foresaw the White Walkers. that opens a lot of rooms for we to interpret the Targaryens actions on the other way around. did the mad king keep saying "burn them all" cause he had dragon dreams about the white walkers and couldn't take it? did prince aerion drank wildfire cause he wanted to be a dragon against the winter? daeron would drink a lot, prob cause he couldn't take his dragon dreams aswell. Rhaegar was obsessed with the prophecy about the prince who was promised, that's why he married Lyanna. the dragon has three heads, but Elia wasn't able to have a third child, they only had Aegon and Rhaenys. Jon and Dany did have dragon dreams about the White Walkers in the books. also, it was breaker of chains playing in the background during that scene

I’m assuming The secret that was passed down would have ended when Robert won the war against the mad king.

And yeah, she found that scene pretty devastating too - felt like 'a bad omen', as she called it, for a few days. But overall, a lovely reaction, Sonny. Also this episode did so well that it got me right back into the world of A Song of Ice and Fire, which is a huge feat as most if not all our mouths are soured by that is known as Season 8 of GoT. Without any spoilers of course, we are now at Episode 4 and near the airing of Episode 5 and none of the episodes have disappointed so far.

Paddy Considine is fantastic in this. The emotion he projects is so believable. Milly Alcock is a really good actress as well. Wish they wouldn't have to replace her with an older actress even though I'm sure she is good too.

My wife is also pregnant at this time, and that scene was also tough to watch. I have told her not to watch this season for now. But yeah, I had a similar reaction. Great show, hard scene to watch

I'm a bit late to the party here, congratulations on all the positive changes Sonny, I wish all of you nothing but the best. House of the Dragon is, in my opinion a worthy successor to Game of Thrones. I've enjoyed it immensely. I have a few thoughts. I believe the prophecy of Aegon the 1st, called A Song of Ice and Fire died with Rhegar Targaryen when Robert Baratheon slew him at the trident. (If in fact he did die there... but that's another story) it adds a wonderful dimension to Aegons reign and his reasoning behind conquering Westeros. Also, the Targaryen inbreeding while icky doesn't effect them as it would normal humans. In ancient times in old Valeria they were known to have practiced blood magic with their dragons. Resulting in the Targaryen bloodline altering, which offers explanation to why some had prophetic dreams (like Aegon the 1st and Daenerys the Dreamer) or and immunity to heat an fire. (like Daenerys Targaryen, the unburt)

21:29-Indeed. Spoilers for those who haven't read the books... While I would guess that Rhaenyra would've told the story to her eldest son, Jacaerys, he died during the war trying to save his younger brother Viserys. Then Rhaenyra was so distraught by losing two of her sons in one day and having lost Lucerys months earlier at the beginning of the Dance she forgot to tell her two remaining sons, Joffery and Aegon. Something I think might happen at the end of the series, at the scene those of us who already know what is coming for Rhaenyra, she might remember at the last minute that the Song of Ice and Fire must be passed on and try to tell it to Aegon, but Sunfyre will beat her to the punch. If he had known the truth of his namesake's conquest, Aegon III might not have become the Dragonbane, and the Song may not have been lost until Rhaeghar rediscovered it. Maybe at the very end of the series, we will get a flash forward a hundred and fifty years to a young Rhaeghar finding a tome or scroll left behind by his ancestors telling of the Song of Ice and Fire.

Fine reaction. I'm sorry you had to watch the baby loss scene when Kat was expecting. I think the secret of the Targaryens stopped being passed on to the Mad King, that's why no one knew about the white walkers in GOT's time line.

On that subject, I hope you will forgive GOT for ending so poorly. I think of it this way : six seasons of unparalleled television. We haven’t seen the true ending yet because GRRM hasn’t finished the books. I think once he does, HBO will remake those final seasons, probably with new actors. The success of HOTD will make such a series irresistible to HBO. in the meantime, I think you would be surprised how enjoyable re-watching those six seasons is.

This isn't a full adaptation of all of fire of blood. Just a specific (the largest and most interesting) time period known as the Dance of the Dragons.

The teasing about that prophesy, they setting up Jon Snow show (maybe it's season 9).

I started binging GoT when it was 5 seasons deep. So I did feel the disappointment of the last season. But when I watched this episode with caution, I can only summize my feelings with the Rick and Morty meme: "You son of a b*tch... Im in"

Its very symbolic, Viserys is a weak King and is constantly injured by the Iron Throne. When Daemon sat in it, he was able to do so with ease and without injury.

Welcome to parenthood my friend, i was wondering how the birth scene would affect you. Things with your wife and kids will hit differently now. My daughter is 17 and still things with kids affect me. Anyway, It's a great series. I am loving it so far. I really hope it doesn't disappoint.

Fire and Blood is a boring book but a good outline to the show, enjoying the series.

you at least have to read the part that describes the actual war in fire and blood.

Plus it's supposedly the real story of what happened since the books were written by maesters with conflicting allegiances.

The actors in this show have won me over. The last season.... really the last two seasons of GoT, were such trash that I cannot rewatch them. I just can't, knowing what that show turned into. With only 4, almost 5 episodes out of HotD, I prefer this show over the original.

I really don’t like the reveal of Aegon’s vision about the Long Night. Just reminds me of how terribly the show went

It's a slow show... they take their time explaining things. OK. My criticism is, not that much is happening, compared to GoT season one. Also, less surprises. All is quite predictable. Still good show.
