I saw Helanas choice as survival. If the daughter gets killed. King still has an heir. Kill Helana in blame etc. Now there is no heir. so we need another son. Helana now gets to live. idk.
Blood and Cheese was a let down. Quite anti-climactic. The moment didn’t live up to the anticipation. Helena lacked any if so, a fight or emotion. In a perfect world, that scene should have started the episode. Much at the start went flat. For a season with less Episodes, the pacing needs to pick up.
The blood and cheese moment was waaaaay watered down. We have seen plenty of kids get clipped in this TV universe. Why the stomach now? I was really disappointed by how they handled it. Other than that, the episode was great. Really looking forward to the rest of the series.
I get nostalgic for these NR videos with Erik. I got into this channel watching the breakdowns of the original GoT videos, so this just feels like a warm blanket. You know, except for the infanticide.
Eh cole is the lord commander. He swore an oath. Why’s it ok for him to have secret affairs and and not rhaenrya…. That’s why alicent and cole are hypocrites
you can thank the writers for that, continuosly shitting on Criston since season 1 episode 1. They also love to sexually degrade Alicents character in particular for some reason
I really _LOVE_ that, unlike *_GOT_* which was based on first person narration from an uncompleted series, *_HOTD_* is based on a fictional history, with the first person “actual” events being somewhat open for interpretation/clarification.
I wonder how things would have turned out if they adapted House before Game of Thrones. It's almost like they needed to do it this way just because of how CGI dragon heavy House is from the very start. Definitely disappointed we got an incomplete GOT but oh well.
The fact that you got all of that info from the opening sequence alone is blowing my mind. I know this series/universe is old, so there's been a lot of time to read it and theorize, but I am always amazed at the people that can remember all the characters, stories, and histories. well done
King Jaeharys seeing the dragons not willing to cross the wall and knowing Aegon’s dream, must have been a wild scene and scared him S**tless. I am starting to think maybe Aegon shared with Torren Stark the dream and thats why he knelt
Afraid not of dragons but of rats. That not just fantasy that’s real life stuff. Do be afraid of the person who comes at you straight beware the person who sneaks and stabs you while you sleep or are unaware.
@@Kidapollo92 Don't you just love those moments in life, when someone tries to correct you on something in a particularly smug way, only to make themselves look bad in the process? I've dealt with that a lot. (6/21/2024)
Yeah nobody probably fell to their death yet, meaning dragon do take protecting seriously. Also, after seeing saddles in HOTD, I'm surprised Daenerys didn't fall off Drogon while flying without saddles and just holding onto his horns lol
@@SantomPh They should still understand the concept that a dragon wing is very much like a parachute lol. Once you develop air borne travel, it's the literal next thing the inventor makes.
After rewatching the episode and considering the title of the episode, A Son For A Son, I'm almost 100% sure it means the sons are the DIRECT sons of the one's on the respective thrones ...Rhaenera lost Luke so Daemon wants them to take out Aegon's son IF they can't find/take out Aemond ...thoughts?!!
Ya im pretty sure that's what Daemon said to Cheese after they cut the camera. There would've been no other "son" for him to direct them to get that would've made any sense.
Am I the only one who thinks aegon might actually make a good king? Like his actions with the small folk he seems sympathetic. He's more a mix of joffery and tommen than just being a joffery
Hes doing vary basic shit hes being generous because he wants to be liked but that doesn't really mean he's a good king any jacksss can do what hes doing and according to otto its not vary smart because hes just giveing people what they want without s thought which is not the making of a good king, hes not a complete tyrant ( yet ) but that's ok literally the bare minimum people ask for from a king .
Yeah he doesn’t seem too bad by nature. He actually wanted to help the smallfolk until corrected by Otto. Seems like a product of his upbringing, his nature gets easily influenced and manipulated and corrupted 😮
I absolutely love your breakdowns and looks forward to them every time you cover something i love or even something new to me. The amount of time and work that goes into it is mind blowing. I just wanted to let you know how much i appreciate them from my little corner of the world.
Episode 1 was an A for me. A+ if they got B and C a little better. But just phenomenal set up and way to reorient everyone watching as to the stakes and the decisions and wars to come.
13:41 “gevie” is actually High Valyrian for “beautiful”, though it could be used in the same sense. I’ve been studying some commands recently to train my dog, and “syz” is the term used for good
What do y'all think "a son for a son, he said" means? How many other sons would be in the Red Keep if they couldn't find Aemond? I really don't think there's too much room for misunderstanding.
It makes sense that that dragon skull on dragonstone must be of maraxes. May be that's the reason why Aegon the conquerer flew to dragonstone in the books after receiving a letter from dorne. May be dornish men sent the maraxes head along with rhynes' body to dragonstone after killing it.
Blood and cheese scenes could have been up there with the Red Wedding in terms of impact… instead it was just underwhelming. They should have stuck to the scenes in the book. Would have been much better.
If they intentionally write out a third child of Aegon and Helena perhaps it is to parallel the situation of King Vicerys did with Rhaenrya while the ambitious uncles( Daemon and Aemond) looming behind the scene biding for an opportunity to take over.
I don’t think Daemon would have any problem in ordering the death of Aegon’s son, especially his heir. Because we saw how he responded when his nephew Baelon died and he joked about it in the brothels. Not to mention he killed his wife in cold blood without any hesitation. In his eyes, if they couldn’t get Aemond, then Jaehaerys was the next best target in terms of importance to the greens. Since like I said, he was the heir to the throne.
Im surprised you didn't mention Alicent violently scrubbing that arm of hers.

I love this series, I waited anxiously for the second season! I just love the characters, the story, the dragons and love the explanations at the episodes like this😂❤! Ty for doing these videos! They’re very informative to understand what the take is telling and explaining it is on point! ❤👏👏👏👏👏💯👍
3:52 the Velaryons are of Valyrian descent, but were never one of the dragon riding families. Laena and Laenor were dragonriders due to their mother, Rhaenys. There were only 40 dragonlord families in Valyria, and many more who lived in Valyria but did not have dragon connections.
What I don’t get is WHY would she send her youngest son to the more dangerous place & not her older son with a bigger dragon who probably could’ve taken better care of himself in that situation 🤷🏻♂️😂 that was bad parenting damn it lol
Like we don’t already have enough psychological brutality in OG Game of Thrones 🙄 they handled the episode perfectly well, I don’t care what anyone says.
Seriously, kicking the dog was entirely unnecessary. All it did was slightly ease the tension of the boy getting killed, which, in comparison, was far less heartbreaking than witnessing that adorable dog being kicked!
what i dont understand is that deamon mnetioned in Ep1 he "should be bending the knee at Harrenhall" which makes no sense to me since Larys is the head of Harrenhal now now what makes anyone think they would side with the blacks? I dont understand that entire plot point
I love these videos very very much it makes the experience of house of the dragon even more interesting as I haven’t read the books (yet) and I really appreciate all the time and effort put into these videos
On the changes to the Blood and Cheese scene - I wondered if they did so to spare the young child actors from any trauma. It would have been pretty extreme for them to go through - and probably more than once.
In the episode Blood (or cheese can’t remember) said Daemon wants a prince so he indirectly told them to behead the baby because there’s no other prince in Kings Landing I love Daemon tho but he definitely alluded to beheading that baby if they can’t find Aemond
