Dragons are loyal to the rider, not each other. Which kind of goes against what some what said that Dragons shouldn't have been trifled with, they are the power, and etc etc. The Dragons hold NO allegiance to one another.
Honestly I feel a little bit sorry for Aegon now. He didnt want to be King, nobody trained him to be King and now all those people that failed him (Otto, Alicent, his council) have the audacity to blame him for his shortcomings. Oh and he lost his son and is crispy now.
Don't be making me empathetic toward that psychopath. He was a growing perv and was never meant to be king he don't even know the secrets passed down to the successor
I don’t think Aegon is really book smart. I think he probably had a hard time learning the histories and studies. When he was old enough to not have to go to studies he probably stopped and that’s when he started drinking.
It’s ironic how Daemon’s plans always end up being the right ones in hindsight. Rhaenys died in a 2vs1 which is what Daemon proposed that they did to Vhagar.
Yeah, they technically have more Dragons; all they need to kill is the rider Aemond. Killing Vhagar would be too hard but if they swarm it like flies they deff kill Aemond easily. The real issue would be coordination but it shouldn't be something hard if you are preparing for war.
they could have killed Vhagar with Meleys and Caraxes together but it was still a reckless idea... Sunfyre would have joined aswell and Kings landing has a lot of scorpions... who knows how this fight would have ended...maybe they would have all been dead
Yo I'm so sick of this big ass green dinosaur in the sky catching people by surprise. Vhagar is far too large to be so stealthy. Rhaenys c'mon baby, why would you fly over a blind spot?
Would have been even smarter to fly to Harrenhal and grab Daemon and Ceraxes to jump Vhaegar like he suggested episodes ago. I guess that would be too damaging to the greens
Aemond was like "lay down Nana Vhagar. You need your strength" and later Nana was like "this is how we did it back in our throple days. Watch me now" 😂 but I am mad at them and Aemond tho.
I like how they changed the battle from aegon and aemond killing meleys together to aegon showing up unplanned. It shows how history is recorded wrong sometimes. Because you know the story everyone told was that aegon planned to be there to fight for his people.. 😂
The last 10 minutes in IMAX would have been the most memorable moments on the big screen for this year. Now it's the most memorable on the small screen.
I honestly liked the detail of the dragons open wound spewing out hot vapors/steam and its blood spilling onto men burning them like hot oil .. made sense for a beast with incendiary insides
Big picture: Rhaenys would have been much too smart to fly over the blind seacliff BUT drawing out the engagement between the (2) dragons costs money 💰
Fun Fact: Meleys was the dragon of Alyssa Targaryen, sister wife to Baelon Targaryen whose mount was Vhagar so at some point before they were "technically" partner dragons.
Watched all the reviews by significant channels on RU-vid and yours is BY FAR. The most in depth and absolute best. Also how good of a job you do explaining the stories is beyond helpful to those who just watch these shows one time. Incredible work. Keep it up
Its a whole Christmas Carol thing with Daemon. He has been visited by the Ghost of Christmas Past (young Rhaenyra), and the Ghost of Christmas Present (Aemond) - all thats left is the Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come, which will be whom, I wonder?
I actually think the animals within Harrenhal are a subtle nod towards the houses that come to hold Harrenhal afterwards. The bats for House Lothston. The goat for Vargo Hoat. The hound for House Clegane.
You guys really do your homework! I watch other explanation videos and they’re good but yours is always so in depth and your channel provides so much information/details it’s really something else. Absolutely love this channel !
Cristen Cole's "Kingmaker" title hits different when you know he impregnated both a future queen and a former queen. Any Shakespearean double entendre in "maker" in Kingmaker title?
Viserys used the term King Consort in season 1 when talking about Rhaenyra needing to marry. I know it came up a few other times too. I don't think that term is coming from Daemon.
When Daemon meets with Willem Blackwood, when he’s dazed, in the sub titles Willem says “I’m only Regent until my Nephew Benjicot becomes of age” we getting Bloody Ben
I call BS on that sneak attack, we saw the cliff before the battle. You telling me that big ass lizard was able to hide and launched itself fast enough to attack like that?
One critique I have is that Aemonds attention wasnt on Meleys. If you notice after he burns Aegon and Sunfyre he was looking for Aegons body in the sky. It wasnt until Meleys went back that Aemond was like Meleys is just another obstacle in his way to kill Aegon. Also he had his sword drawn but sheathed it bc he was going to use the kings dagger instead, so yes Aemond was planning to kill Aegon with his own favorite dagger Aegon flaunts all the time
Even after reading the book and knowing what would happen this was a heartbreaking episode to watch even hearing sunfyre get hurt was just devastating.
maybe Aemond, by saying to everyone that Aegon killed Maelys/Rhaenys, gives him a narative where Aegon is the hero in order for him to not tell that Aemond purposefully burnt him : if he doesn't say anything, he gets to be the hero and respected, if he says something, he might bring down his brother, but appears weak, doesn't help the realm and is still burnt to the crisp. With this narative, Aemond push Aegon to never reveal the truth, hence the version we get in the book
I've not read this far into the book, but watching ep5 preview and hearing them say that Aegon is the one that slayed Meleys felt like propaganda from the Hightowers and I think this is really going to wind Aemond up. And this rage and feeling of invincibility will be his eventual downfall.
More than that, by propping Rhaenyra up he's made this whole war happen (that's effectively what dream-Rhaenyra was saying with that whole "you created me" bit), so it's the blood of the realm as well. Multi-layered mucky hands!
Am I the only one that finds it hilarious that Alicent and Rhaenerya, while having many differences and disagreements, both use Plan Tea to make sure they dont have Sir Crispin's bastard.
When Aemond was talking in Valyrian to Aegon he wasn’t thinking about how it would affect his dragon riding. That wasn’t part of the plan so he had no way to know it would come in handy later. In the books it was but not here.
agreed. too many people are caught up with Aegon commanding Sunfyre in english/common speech. he's had the dragon since it was a hatchling and they have a strong bond. knowing high valyrian isn't some prerequisite.
I hope king aegon is okay , I saw him fly over kings landing in a hurry while I was getting a bowl of brown in flea bottom …he’s been such a good king I hope nothing melted him down
I feel like Daemon couldn’t understand young Rhaenyra’s high Valyrian because well it was muffled and it was a dream and Aegon couldn’t understand Aemond’s because he was too lazy or didn’t care enough to learn it.
I used to only watch alt shift X for recaps. Still love that channel but the amount of stuff you noticed paired with your turnaround time is very impressive.
I notice that when Rhænys and Meleys return to the battle the first time, they climb up from behind the castle, following the same path Æmond and Vhægar will later fly when they kill them.
Daemons red stained hands could also be from the red sap of the warewood trees. He may have sleep walked out there and thus it might be the red sap that makes the trees appear to be crying blood. It would be interesting if it somehow relates to that, especially with alys rivers involved
If Josh Brolin’s Cable thought us anything is that once you taste that first kill, the next ones are gonna be easy. This is what happens to Aemond once he accidentally kills Luke.
It's viserys that suggest rhaenyra find a king consort. That wasn't an invention by daemon. Also all the queen consorts have been called your grace so I don't really think daemon is doing anything wrong
While I do think Aemond plans on finishing off Aegon, I didn’t see it as him standing over his brother with his sword poised to kill him. I saw it as him walking through an active battle, armed, looking for the crash site. Then sheathing his sword when he found it.
Aemond definitely not trying to finished off Aegon, he probably draw his sword due to some sort of defense mechanism. He's trying to sheath it before Ser Crispin called his name.
How is vhagar getting into smaller dragons necks when its the slowest out there? Also how is it doing sneak attacks when its literally a flying fortress? Damn plot armor.
Watched a lot of recaps, you are the only one that mentions the blood in one shot on his hand and that it wasn’t there in the next scene-a remnant of the dream in his mind. I love the attention to detail. ❤
Was so happy to see our boy Mr blackwood again. He was such a badass slaying brackens back in the days of courting Rheneara and he's right back at it now even if you claims it's because of the oath his father swore
Was that sap from the Weirwood tree that shown symbolically as blood on his hands? Could explain his dreams and why the drink made of the same sap sent him in further delusions
Also I believe they are purposely leaving hints about the Maesters being part of a conspiracy. Back in season 1, it was a maester who had to interpret Rhaenyra's message to Borros Baratheon who then sides with the greens. I wonder if it's simply a conspiracy to get the Hightowers more power, or if they really do want to rid the world of magic.
Time stamp 42:55 Sunfyre did not loose a wing. Sunfyre healed awkwardly at rooks rest with the green army feeding at taking care of him. Sunfyre flew again after an attack to get Rooksrest back.
Great review! One thing I thought was interesting that youtuber Glidus pointed out is that the Darklyn sigl is inaccurate. There should only be four shields, not seven. The shields represent Darklyn's who made the Kingsguard and Sir Steffon is only the 4th, the other 3 Darklyns join the KG between this story & Game of Thrones.
Glidus is the most knowledgeable RU-vidr in this genre in my opinion (and the most hilarious), too bad he doesn’t have enohgh subs to make content more often
@@BD-cu2pg Glidus is partnering with Alt Shift X for coverage of HOT D, they've put out over 50 hours of content in the last month. Highly recommended.
This episode reminded us of the importance of our native tongue. Imagine Aegon feeling embarrassed for not responding to his brother in front of his council.
yes aemond was reading the valeryian on the dagger probably why they reminded us how well he knows the language in the small council meeting. He will mention it to alicent later on most likely after she cant find it in any of the books.
... small note, it was Lord Gorman Massey, the one pouring himself a second cup of wine, not Broome. But yeah Broome's pommel leaning up against the table near Rhaneyra's map figurine is definitely a foreshadow of his intentions made known later in the story.
