In the book its more cruel. Halaena actually offers herself and they refuse. "Wife is not a son" they say. She also had 2 sons and they force her to choose one to die. She picks the youngest because she thinks that he will not know what's going on and they say to the kid that his mother picked you to die and they kill the other son.

Honestly what wouldve made it somewhat even is if they killed both of aegons kids. Rhae lost her son and daughter because of aegon. If Aegon never took the throne, they would’ve been alive. Blood and cheese was so dull bc they didnt even show it. Its GoT man, they usually show the brutality bc it hits harder. I dont feel bad for the greens at all. They deserve worse.

No they dont, they never showed child murder on screen in GoT. The killing of the baratheon babies and Shireen actually dying from being burned was all off screen.

This isn't about showing it. It's about the viewers wanting SOMETHING more crazy since they ALREADY toned it down from the books. I don't see why they couldn't just use the same choice/savagery from the books. Which is better written first of all. Secondly has even MORE emotional weight without being gratuitous, And thirdly can be done without showing it. It seems to me the show doesn't really want to bring team black that down likability wise? Maybe cause they think the audience needs a side to root for. But if that's how they're approaching this, they're kinda missing the whole point of the story and it's messaging. Hopefully these changes pay off in the long run.
