I think Daemon was definitely being genuine when he helped Viserys up the throne. I felt like it was a callback to the first episode when he was being disinherited. Daemon tells his brother that if he were Hand, he would protect him from vultures like Otto. Now we see him come and help Viserys ascend his throne while Otto bitterly stares at them. That was beautiful.

The actor portraying King Viserys deserves a standing ovation. He did that. From young to dying and feeble. Amazing.

In the books, Aemond is described to be built bigger because of his training so that’s why he’s essentially bigger than him in the show. It’s to show Aemond’s combat abilities and skill. It almost makes him look older as a result

I got so stressed that viserys mistook Alicent for Rhanerya in that last scene 😭. I mean the whole drama would have happened anyway , but I wish rhanerya heard what he said before he took his last breath. They needa stop naming everyone Aegon.

I understand Vaemonds point but at the same time he made it seem like he wanted the driftmark throne because he was worried about the ending of the Velaryon line, which I don’t think is true. If it were true, then when he heard that his grand-nieces (daemons daughters), Baela and Rhaena, were going to marry Lucerys and Jacerys that would have confirmed that his bloodline (the Velaryon bloodline) wouldn’t have ended, seeing as Baela and Rhaena are true Velaryons. Plus Rhaenyras sons are half Targaryen, so their children would be Velaryon and Targaryen. That should have been enough for him if he was really worried about his family line ending. So I honestly think that was his excuse just because he wanted the throne for himself and tried to take advantage of the fact that his brother was absent due to injury so he thought he could go against his wishes. But he wasn’t wrong about calling her sons bastards it was just the way he went about it. You can’t go before the King trying to tell him that he can’t make decisions over your house (which he can because he’s the fucking King) and commit treason by calling out Viserys, his grandsons and his daughter in that fashion. He should’ve been smarter in playing the game/ his attempt to getting the driftmark throne. On top of that, he also called Rhaenyra a whore which was completely unnecessary and incredibly disrespectful. So his death in that moment was inevitable!! I knew Daemon was gonna kill him the second them words left his mouth. RIP Master of Complaints!!

Daemond called Viserys weak in the first episode but it was at the King's physically weakest state when he finally got to see his brother's strength.

What can Team Green defend? Alicent has no right to compare herself to Rhaenyra. Alicent is not born Royalty, she's the daughter of a 2nd son from a noble house, with no inheritance or land. Her marriage is not due to her status as she had none until she married but due her proximity to Viserys when he was grieving. All Alicent's is required to do for all the King's riches and Royal status is be a dutiful Queen and follow the rules - what else did she expect, that's the deal. However, Rhaenyra is a born Princess, Royal from birth, the daughter of a Targaryen King and Queen. She is heir to the throne, in the line of blood succession to 'Rule' the kingdom as Queen - unlike Alicent, who is Queen only by marriage and title with no powers to rule. So, of course Rhaenyra has privilege, she has been Royal her whole life, she is Targaryen the highest house in the kingdom, the Dragons. Rhaenyra is not tied to an old boring husband, they are the cards dealt to Alicent as her Father Otto is no King. Alicent is not equal to Rhaenyra and should've just been grateful for the wealth and status she has. If she wants to take her anger out on anyone, it is Otto who sent her to Viserys as a lamb to the slaughter.

Daemon baited Vaemond to say it so he could have a reason to cut him. Vaemond took the bait, thinking that no one can ever scare or hold him back, not even the likes of the rogue prince.

Daemon is messy af, but he genuinely loved his brother and always sought his approval. I hoped to see more of their relationship.

Commonly, Aegon, Alicent's son, and Aegon, Rhaenyra's son, are referred to as Aegon the Elder and Aegon the Younger. Keep an eye on the younger one, if he's anything like his parents he could end up being quite interesting. Keep an eye on Aegon the Elder as well, but for safety reasons.

Daemon set an example for anyone who would dare question the legitimacy of her children. I like how he stood up for his stepsons. Daemon laughing in amusement after confronting aemond and genuinely seemed to be intrigued like a kid who found a new toy to play with while aemond being a creep. You’re looking at things with a modern 2022 viewpoint. Alicent and Viserys weren’t sleeping together before they got married. They really *were* just talking. Well, Alicent was mostly just listening and being a sympathetic ear. Alicent was a high born noble lady. If Viserys had slept with her, he would have had to marry her right away - see the original GoT show and what happened with Robb Stark. There wouldn’t have been a question of him marrying anyone else. In addition, Alicent wouldn’t have given her virginity without marriage. No noble lady was raised that way - which is why Rhaenyra is such an outlier in her free sexuality - and Alicent, particularly, follows the faith of the Seven closely, so she would never do that.

Alicent needs to move to The Reach after making a stretch like that, Rhaneyra also has a son named Aegon now. Did you guys notice Aemond is an anagram of Daemon :)

Vaemond got what he deserved. Corlys and Leonor accepted those kids as legitimate, Viserys sat on the throne and legitimized them as his true born heirs, and the betrothal of Luke to Rhaena put an end to the question of whether Valaryon blood would be in control of drift mark. He was a bitter Second son whose grasp could not exceed his reach.

Remember when Viserys and Alicent were by the fire on the hunt in episode 3?? He was telling her about the dream he had where a son was born wearing the conqueror's crown and he was doubting his decision to name Rhaenyra his heir.... so Alicent already has that piece of information. And now in his final moments he brings up a dream with Aegon, granted it's something totally different, but you can see why Alicent would believe he is talking about wanting her Aegon to be king.

Years before HOT D was aired, I would read how popular Daemon was among book readers. Came from both genders. A lot of females read this stuff and aren't into Twilight and Harry Potter or at least not anymore for some. I'd read how Daemon was such a BADASS Targaryen and how they couldn't wait to see him in TV form. Matt Smith crushed this role the moment we first see him in Ep 1. Daemon pulls the most gravity in EVERY scene. It's like even if he's leaning in the background, you want to know what he's doing? What's he thinking? How he's reacting? If he doesn't appear for 30 minutes into the episode, you start to ask, Where's Daemon? Where's Daemon? This is pure charisma, people. Listen, I thought Ewan Mitchell would steal scenes in this episode but I didn't see it at all. Aemond looks cool but it's not the level of charisma that Daemon carries. Matt Smith still pulls the most eyes and ears to him. We all hang onto his every word and Daemon is a man of very few words. But when he says something, it can hit you as hard and as fast as Dark Sister did through Vaemond's neck. Daemon is THE ONE. This is why in every comment section, guys and gals will say, I love Daemon! I love Matt Smith! I will defend all of Daemon's crimes! It's insanity. Book version or TV version, Daemon has a ton of fanboys and fangirls. He's a character who hasn't let me down even after reading all the hype for years. Without Daemon, I'm not sure I would continue to watch. His unpredictability makes scenes intense. GRRM and the book readers were right all along. We are starting to get it. Daemon truly is the main reason to watch. The GOAT. "He can keep his tongue." Can see the tongue attached to the neck while Daemon wipes off Dark Sister and then directly looks at Aemond. You can even see Aemond flinch the moment Daemon played Fruit Ninja with Vaemond's head. GRRM describes Daemon with the triple Ds: dashing, daring, and dangerous. He's also hot-tempered and reckless. In the City Watch, he was BATMAN with his own Suicide Squad. He gambled and was successful at it. He was very popular with women and commoners. Popular with his Gold Cloaks who were former outlaws. I know not everyone likes Daemon and that's fine. People want to be a contrarian or like the boy scouts. And Daemon is written as a grey character so he's going to be divisive. But even the haters have to admit Daemon still pulls the most attention over any other character in this show. He has "IT". He has je ne sais quoi. Four seasons of House of the Dragon. GRRM said it needs at least 4 seasons. So we got 3 more seasons of this which really means 6 more years until we finish it. Daeron, Viserys and Alicent's youngest child does exist. He's in Old Town. He's rider of Tessarion. The ending is going to be very sad because Rhaenyra and Alicent will lose almost everyone they love. RIP Viserys I Targaryen Been praising Paddy Considine since Episode 1 when he told Daemon, "Then why do you cut me so deeply?” GRRM has even stated Paddy's Viserys is way better than the one he wrote. Paddy has been the MVP of Season 1. Matt Smith, Emma D'Arcy, and Olivia Cooke will carry the show the rest of the way.

No more time jumps at this point (at least none with actor changes). I’m going to miss Viserys. People like to call him weak because he wasn’t a warrior but he was the glue that held the entire kingdom together and this episode was proof (how the family and council acted when he wasn’t in the room as oppose to when he’s in the room). Hope the actor gets an Emmy nomination especially for this episode.

The best thing the King could of done when he was on the throne after Vaemond was executed was abdicate the throne to Rhaenyra in front of everyone. Make Otto step down publicly so his daughter could choose her own Hand. That way he can make sure its a peaceful transition of power. I know he was sick and not feeling well but this needed to happen to avoid Otto and Alicent scheming to steal the throne and to avoid the war they start. He really should have never let Otto come back as hand in the first place. He probably did it just to shut Alicent up lol

Sure Rheanrya’s kids are not blood of the Velaryons but if they marry Leanas daughters and have kids there would be both blood of Velaryons and Targaryens so drifmarks blood would still be strong. If Vaemond really cared about blood he would be okay with Rhaenys and Corlys decision. That just shows that Vaemond probably didn’t truly care about blood but his own ambition.

Anyway - what exactly has Rhaenyra done that's so bad??? She had an indiscretion in her youth with Criston, she knows it was a big mistake and regrets it. Considering the position of women who were not royalty, Alicent is very very very lucky she didn't have to have sex with Viserys when she was being sent for secret meetings with him by Otto because if Viserys had wanted it, she would have - it is only as Viserys was a gentleman that it did't happen, it was not because Alicent has higher morals than Rhaenyra as she would have compromised herself before marriage too if required. Also, Rhaenyra was instructed to marry Laenor by Viserys to strengthen the ties between house Veleryon and Targeryen against Dorne - so where is the freedom to do as she pleases and not uphold duty that Alicent is talking about? Corlys and Viserys married Rhaenyra to a gay man but she was expected to produce heirs for both house Veleryon and Targeryen. Her husband could not give her children, so she has no alternative other than to have a relationship with Harwin. That is why Viserys, Corlys and Laenor all allowed her affair and accepted the children from it, as THEY ALL required heirs for their bloodlines and the throne. Rhaenyra acted out duty and loneness as she had been married off to a gay husband who couldn't give her affection and intimacy. So, Alicent is talking s**t about duty and all that. Apart from the page put in the fire for Laenor's fake death, Rhaenyra's had done no harm and even then it was to protect her children, without marriage to Daemon she was defenceless.. Alicent however, is behind the double Strong murder, she wanted to gouge out a child's eye. she fills her kids with hate and slaps them around, Alicent is the bad person here.

The crown falling off was improvised by both the actors. They did a really great job. I am going to miss Viserys. He just wanted everyone to be happy and he was a joyous Targaryen. Gotta watch out for Aemond. I like his character, because he is smart and ambitious and everyone will have a love/hate relationship with his character. The Dance now begins. =D

VISERYS was first, THE BROTHER of DAEMON. every other person/relation came later in life. They grew up together. My book reading friend said It's because of Daemon that Viserys became king. He was ready to fight if needed when question of succession came , that is why Old king Jaehaerys called the council to decide without any fighting. They had differences yes, mostly because Viserys listens to Otto too much and snubbed daemon & daemon in return does something to get back at his bro. But when it matters, Daemon always has the back of his brother & Rhaenyra.

Vaemond was power hungry. He was always jealous and talking shit about Corlys. He was the one bitching while battle plans were being made in the 3rd episode. Laenor called him "Master of Complaints" because he wasn't doing shit to win just blaming others. As soon as Corlys was too hurt during battle to rule he jumped at his chance to steal the Driftmark throne. He even made a secret deal with his families enemies to side with them during the upcoming war as long as they gave him Driftmark. If it was about blood he would of dropped the issue as soon as he found out about the betrothal of Daemon's and Laena's daughter to Rhaenyra's son. Their child would have velaryon blood and sat driftmarks throne. Therefore keeping the house in the blood. Instead the king ruined his and the greens plans and he got pissed he lost his one chance to steal the throne. Daemon ended that traitors life

It's funny cuz Rhaenyra's kids are suppose to be well built guys, and Aemond is suppose to be short with a napoleon complex. However, Daemon picking up the crown was definitely genuine, he's always been a wild card.

a lot of people doesn't understand how crazy what daemon did here. after his battle in the stepstone, his swordsmanship have achieve such mastery that if he fights cole again, (the guy who defeated him in chapter 2) he can defeat him now without breaking a sweat. daemon was so fast, nobody even saw him move and cut the guys head. that's why everybody was so surprised.

I wish that Viserys had remembered before now that he had family other than Rhaenyra; things might have turned out differently. He's prioritized Rhaenyra and her children way beyond her status as heiress to the Iron Throne, and, by neglecting his children by Alicent, sown seeds of doubt, fear and discord that will help fuel a conflagration of fire and blood. (yes, I am a Viserys fan, and this episode is fantastic). Poor Viserys did his best; he was not, by nature, meant to be a king; he kept the peace, dealt with politics as best he could, tried to do the right thing; and was also a victim of an insidious incurable disease (very possibly leprosy - he didn't have it in the book, by the way, the TV show has made Viserys a much more interesting character).

The "blood" matter was settled when rhaenyra betrothed her son's to baela and rhaena, Luke and rhaena babies would have velaryon blood (because of rhaena) and velaryon name (Luke still a velaryon, that's not going to change) so the dude was being petty AF and also just wanted power for himself.

I think it would be really fun if someday you guys reacted to Doctor Who. Matt Smith is the 11th doctor and he is fantastic. Especially when he’s furious like he is as Damon but totally different too. The show has some really great story arcs and character development Plus it’s fun and sci-fi and generally made for kids but there’s deep stuff to. I think you’d like it.
