So Brightroar wasn't lost by Tywin's brother... Tywin's brother was lost looking for the sword. I want to say Tommen, a direct ancestor to Tywin went to Valyria in an attempt to plunder the ruins, and was lost to the doom along with the Family sword. That's where Tywin's brother Gerion decides to go to Valyria to find the sword and disappeared himself..

Seeing ice reforged still hits for two main reasons. One is that it’s amazing choreography between the music, lighting and Tywins super subtle smug smile. Second is the emotional impact that came from the swords symbolism for House Stark at its most broken

Shame it’s just nonsense. When you reduce any metal to a liquid state it’s completely useless for swordmaking. It becomes very brittle. They’re not “forging” in that scene, they’re essentially making cast iron.

@@pmc8451 Well to be fair, Valyrian steel is a magical alloy that isn’t actually steel/iron. But yeah, I would also like to see more realistic forging and battle tactics. The real life versions aren’t just more realistic but more interesting. (I would love to finally seeing murder/mordhau strikes , the use of crossguards as hooks, and half-swording. I don’t want 100% realistic and drawn out fights. Just some basic moves instead of the wild swinging we’re used to.)

Dark Sister will always be my favorite, because I'm a total Visenya fan girl. Other than that, my favorite sword in A Song of Ice and Fire is Dawn, the ancestral blade of House Dayne, most famously wielded by the Sword of the Morning, Ser Arthur Dayne. Not Valyrian steel, but forged from a meteorite, so even rarer and possibly stronger.

Making and even reshaping such a powerful, magical Steel overall is an awesome concept. Though I really wish there was a *Valyrian Steel Spear.* Maybe House Martell would've been the best to wield such a weapon. Dark Sister should've made an appearance in Game of Thrones, to help defend the Realms of Men. Red Rain of House Reyne coming back somehow to aid in destroying the forces of House Lannister also would've been poetic.

Dark Sister was lost when Bloodraven went north to the Wall. There are no records of him using it, which is odd when you know he became Lord Commander. Blackfyre left with Bittersteel, but none of the claimants ever wielded it in the many rebellions.

The sword Meera picks up in Bloodraven's cave has the same crossguard that Daemon's Dark Sister has, we can see that pretty clearly in a close up shot of Meera and Bran where the sword is resting against a tree. The handle isnt exactly the same, but the dragonwings cross seems too unique to be a coincidence.

Catspaw dagger is definitely up there as a fav. Belonged to a conqueror who united 7 kingdoms into one, was then the catalyst for the war of the 5 kings, was used to defeat the knight king and ultimately united the kingdoms under a new king.

Visenya used it, that might be part of the reason behind its name, she was the nastier of the 2 sisters. But it seems really light and well balanced, its blades shape is kind of unique. It also has dragonwings as the hiltguard.

Some deeper details on Dragonbinder: It's made of a Dragon's horn, banded in Valyrian Steel with the glyphs etched into the metal. It's meant to bind dragons to the master of the horn, but it will kill anyone who actually blows it. This is true for those with Valyrian blood as well. My personal tinfoil for this is that the spell that blowing the horn casts to bind the dragons requires a human sacrifice. (Like so much other Valyrian magic seems to.) This would be the life of the person blowing it for the horn's master. I can only assume to become the master of the horn, there's a different spell involved. We may find out more about how one becomes the horn's master in future books since Moccoro told Victarian that he needs to become the horn's master.

House Lannister's Valyrian Steel Sword Brightroar was not in the Dance of the Dragon Civil War. It was lost after a foolish Lannister King named Tommen the Second took it with him trying to plunder the ruins of Valyria shortly after the Doom occurred and it disappeared along with him. It is true that Tywin's youngest brother went on a quest to find it and went missing as well, but at that point, the sword was missing for nearly three hundred years at that time. It is noteworthy that the Lannister who bought Birghtroar before the Doom spent so much gold on it that it is speculated that it could have bought a large army for an equivalent price. Because of this loss of a priceless heirloom, Tywin Lannister was rather obsessed with trying to get his family another one but was unsuccessful until he came into possession of House Stark's Valyrian Sword Ice. It is also interesting to note that Valyrian Steel jewelry and daggers are much more plentiful than the swords and even Alt Shift X stated in his own video that it was surprising that Tywin just did not choose to buy up a bunch of them to be melted down as he already had a smith lined up; nevermind the fact the books mostly mentions smaller Valyrian Steel piece as nearly negligible since there are so many of them that it seems too common even for a finite material.

Blackfyre (Aegon the Conquerors sword) can’t be hurt by dragon fire, he was cremated with it. After the funeral was over Maegor the cruel retrieved it from the smoldering pire. The blade was a little darker, but even Balerion the black dreads flames couldn’t even hurt Blackfyre. By far my favorite sword

Big question: Who etched the prophecy into the Catspaw Dagger so it would only be visible in fire? Probably not Aegon but had to be someone he would trust with that knowledge (or else like Maegor killed the smith off when he was finished). Likely there is magic involved.

9:06 Randal pressured Samwell into joining the Night’s Watch and thus Sam was already out of the Line of Succession so Heart’s Bane would go to Dickon, granted Sam pretty much broke both his Night’s Watch and Maester oaths several times over between having a Wife and Son, and stealing books from the Citadel, and being on the King’s Court despite being part of the Night’s Watch which may or may not still exist… Everyone kinda forgot about Sam’s Oaths like Dany forgot about the Iron Fleet.

Awesome job, keep following the Valyrian Steel they are giving us clues that will continue to reveal secrets and have their own story within the story, think rings of power, also different swords and rings etc. (Valyrian steal) have more magical powers that we will discover. Each Valyrian steal weapon, ring etc. will reveal different powers some multiple powers like having a will to return to its rightful owner and only its blood line can access all its powers (Blood Magic). I do not believe this to be a stretch, Martin intending this, leaving puzzles in his stories and all the books will tie the secrets together.

I always assumed the Valyrians gave certain Westerosi Lords Valyrian Steel because of the Long Night. I mean Ice didn't need to be long enough for two swords and yet it was. New subscriber/fan here...do you have a video explaining the Fall of Valyria (the Doom)? If you don't I think it'd be cool to do one so that people just introduced to GOT and HOD understand why so many characters refer to ancient Valyria with wondrous eyes.

He does have a video about it, but it came out long ago when he was making videos for GOT S1. So you might have to do some digging to find it, but it's there. His original GOT videos is what made me subscribe way back when. Charlie has a video explaining pretty much any questions that can be answered about RR Martin's world, and it's pretty awesome 😎 haha

Not a valyrian steel sword, but my favorite was always Dawn, I think it has a cooler line of succession in that you earn it through your fighting prowess not by blood right

So basically Valerian Steele is from melting metal not with regular fire but with dragon fire. The heat produced by dragon fire changed the chemical composition of the steel to a whole new product.

Wasn't the Stark in HOTD actually Rickon and not Cregan (as you refer to him in the video). Rickon is Lord of Winterfell during Viserys' reign and who would've (theoretically) pledged loyalty to Rhaenyra. Cregan, Rickon's son, will eventually take over Winterfell during the Dance but I assume the show is going to age him up some to bypass some of the odditys and power struggle in the North.

Not sure if you mentioned it in this video but my personal favorite Valyrian Steel Blade has to be *Dawn* the ancestral blade of House Dayne of Starfall. The person who wields it is automatically called the Sword of the Morning. And that’s honestly pretty badass…

Dawn is not Valyrian Steel. It is made from a "falling star" or a meteorite. Pale as milk glass and just as sharp as V steel

So I’ve been reading The World of Ice and Fire The Untold History of Westeros. Which is essentially a summarized account of the entire history of Westeros as written by a Maester of the Citadel (I know😂) But recently been reading the Dance of Dragons section and it says that Daemon jumped from his dragon to Aemonds dragon while over the gods eye and killed him with Dark sister and then the two men and the dragons all fell into the waters below. It says his bones weren’t even recovered how would the sword possibly turn up?
