You are taking the book too literally. I see the show as what “really happened” and the book as the history that was told. Helena gave up the boy (for whatever dragon-sighted reason) but obviously had to tell everyone that she tried to choose the spare but the assailants took the heir, otherwise she could be seen at some kind of fault.

No one else is talking about the episode’s “confirmation” that Aegon revealed the coming threat to Torhen. I also picked that up from Jace’s seemingly innocent statement. You guys always have the best insight! I also wonder if, in addition to the dream, Aegon saw the glyphs left by the Children of the Forest in the caves of Dragonstone - the ones Jon Snow discovered when he was mining for obsidian (GOT S7 E4).

As someone who admittedly did not read the books, I appreciated Alicent not being in the room for the murder as it further served to highlight the contrast of motherhood between her and Rhaenyra. It feels like the show is centering all of the chaos and war around Otto's bad and selfish choices. He didn't respect Viserys as a king and decided to play chess with his daughter as a pawn. One of those consequences is Alicent being a bad mom who only values her children as part of a dynastic scheme (because Otto instilled that in her), as opposed to Rhaenyra who is a mom first, queen second. Alicent is queen first, mom second. Therefore, it makes sense to me that while her family is in danger, Alicent is not present but instead only concerned with satisfying her own pleasures. The version of Alicent so far presented I wouldn't imagine being warm grandma who says goodnight to her grandkids every night. It makes sense to me that she would have to face the effects of her failure after the fact. Just my take.

I was completely unaware of the third kid and the impossible choice laid before alicent. That makes that scene so much more heavy. At least it could have/should have been. I don’t know how it would’ve translated to television, but it would’ve been a sight to behold. Wow. I can’t imagine what reading that would’ve been like

By not showing some of the "lore" from questionable sources is telling us that it was not true.

This season MIGHT end with Rhaenyra finally taking back the iron throne & Aegon2 escaping to hide into Dragonstone. So they switcch their strongholds.

In total agreement. Blood and cheese change was a total mistake. Show is very beautiful the passion in the medium of putting all of this into premium television is super evident. Costumes, sets, acting, props, vfx all look incredible. But why do adoptions have to meddle with the one thing that was already laid out for them. The writing was already there. Blood and cheese scene was already written with the motivations and narrative purpose it needed. So why anyone involved thought to change how the characters in that scene would be put to screen is very odd.

Why after 2 long years of waiting are we only getting 8 episodes? Doesn’t make sense.

I need someone to edit that scene from the book with scenes from different movies and see how much better it was ..... 53:43 53:45 The fact that the only way it work in the book was that she used to take the kids to see her grandmother...... So that gave them a finite window of time .... Would have made it much more tense ..... The sex scenes of alicent and Ser 💩 are so sad and undignifing But then again larys isn't an option

Didn’t know the book version, but the book version is better. I thought it was bizarre that the plan seemed so improvised. Since time was of the essence I was surprised that they didn’t check, or kill them both rather than risking discovery with the choice.

Bad wigs and starks acting was very stiff. Other than that I loved it

3 minutes of dragons and phony adult scenes . How dare they use the starks. The redo of the intro shows how aimless the 1st season was

Show is boring and tv girl power centric. Not enough dragons and too many British with power trips
