Rhaenys was wearing the hand of king pin in the black council meeting!

Interesting that Rhaenyra was able to comfort her grieving child, whereas Alicent couldn’t show any real compassion or provide comfort to neither Aegon nor Helaena.

I think Aegon didn't hate his father. I think he was just desperate for his fathers approval and love and he thought that with Viserys naming him his heir he finally got the approval and love he always wanted. But then Otto distroys this by saying that Viserys choosing him as king was a lie.

I think that the Rhaenyra wathcing the dust in the air ties her back to Helaena in her grief, watching the little petals that the smallfolk threw during the funeral floating in the air. Two queens who have just lost children, on opposite sides of a struggle but grappling with the same emotions.

Even though I tend to have a strong bias toward the Blacks, I have to say that I really disagree with Sean re:Aegon’s grief. I believe he is genuinely emotionally devastated, and that both his reaction here and his parenting in the past is more of a reflection of the poor parenting he received than a lack of caring for his children.

Rhaenyra being a fan of Visenya may have changed now that Visenya's dragon ate her son. May also be why she's reading up on Vhagar

Is Rhaenyra asking about Mysaria’s scar her questioning if Daemon did it? She just remembered who Mysaria was in that scene. We have seen him grab Rhaenyra by the throat before. She spent a lot of time this episode coming to realisations about him after all. That’s how I took it.

Mysaria had that scar in season 1. It's probably because of sl@ve collar she used to wear in Essos before she came to King's Landing.

That was my initial take. It just remakes of honesty and having a moment two women know what they both went through at Daemon’s hands. It’s a really well filmed undercover. For the ladies that love a wild ride, these two women are showing, not, beauty, youth, change in professional stations, marriage, or the man’s predilection need for the next model. Mind you, previous models are available in a wherehouse! I knew Toys were dark before, but damn, they’re a level too much for today’s world. I have zero time for BS anymore.

@@persephone342 Mysaria already had that scar in season 1, for example when she speaks to Otto in 1x09. It's most likely from slave collar she wore in Essos, before she came to King's Landing. I hate how they cut this scene and they didn't give an answer, so people could blame Daemon for something he didn't do. -.-

it’s so devastating how none of the greens know how to embrace or comfort each other. This is such a huge theme in the episode, and i’m glad you’ve pointed it out. Aemond curling up in the lap of the Madam shows his starvation for physical comfort. The lack of warmth for Aegon from Alicent was apparent to me from the first time we see him on screen as a baby. She doesn’t look like she wants to be holding him - she is rocking him impatiently. we never see her cuddle him or any of her children. Which is understandable, given everything she has endured, from being forced into this marriage as a young teen girl, to having to endure marital r*** ( likely how her children are conceived, which makes it even more understandable). I don’t think her loss of her mom explains this as much as the trauma she’s endured - particularly at the hands of men - as she and Rhaenyra were affectionate before she married Viserys. (also note she gives some affection to Helaena, again, the girl child. I think she harbors a ton of resentment towards men in her family due to…everything. Yet, i believe, had he just been given affection and acceptance from are least one parent and felt safe from infancy, he would be completely different and so much of this could be avoided. Instead, generational patterns repeat. (Cole, by contrast, is a man Alicent has power over. I think this is a not insignificant piece her attraction for him & an insight into her character)

Alicent endured “marital r@@*.” 🙄. Yet, she marries her daughter to her son? The daughter who doesn’t like to be touched. The daughter who told everyone, her brother/husband “mostly ignores her, except sometimes when he’s drunk.” No sympathy for Alicent. She’s a horrible mother. All of her children are screwed up because of her.

I read the Alicent not comforting Aegon scene as if she went in there to lay down the law about him demoting Otto, and then deciding to let him grieve instead of chastising him in that moment. All the scenes with Aegon in that scene remind me of Viserys III.

I only just started the video, but if it's not mentioned....I'm pretty sure Helaena has already had visions of what happens to King's Landing at the hand of her descendent, Dany. She very much does not want to be involved with or get to know the smallfolk (I think she knows what happens to them), and the visual shot of the flowers falling down around her as she stares up the sky is VERY evocative of the ash falling on King's Landing after Dany burns part of it. They held that shot for an extremely long time for a reason.
@SaneMillennial
@SaneMillennial Месяц назад
I don't want to think that they're trying to connect this more in-cannon show w/the one that went off the rails. Dany had that vision in the House of the Undying too in season 2 when it more closely followed the books, and in the books it won't be Dany that burns King's Landing but another character who will most likely go crazy given the hints in the books and his entire omission from the show. I think HOTD is trying to set the cannon right so I refuse to connect those two things as it being Dany who does it. Some say maybe they'll even redo GOT by the time they're done w/the spinoffs and at least one more book comes out if not both to finish the series before GRRM dies so we know how it's supposed to happen.
@lumer1611
@lumer1611 Месяц назад
@@SaneMillennial I understand you and agree with what you've said BUT, you cannot separate HOTD from GOT since both of these narratives are from the "show universe". I agree that HOTD is a lot more logically built around the author work, but I think that's part consequence of Fire and Blood being a multi-source historical book and NOT a novel like the main book series. I do think the runners of HOTD are trying to respect the main source material, but HOTD will still be just show universe and "show cannon" and not pure-book cannon. It can still be a lot more faithful than GOT was (at least to this point) but it is nowhere near as perfect (a lot of historical characters aren't being mentioned, some things are being changed both visually and factually, etc)
@Ring3R
@Ring3R Месяц назад
@@SaneMillennial I think the large strokes of the ending of the GoT show are probably correct...Dany going mad has been foreshadowed. Her father was a decent king until Duskendale broke him. Faegon being favored over her may do the same. I could see her destroy King's Landing if that city overtly sides with him. I'm sure the books will pull it off far, far more effectively though, however it plays out. As far as my original post....I made it prior to watching the behind the scenes for the episode. In the behind the scenes.....the showrunners revealed that Helaena had drawn her visions all over her room....and those visions do include major events from the ASoIaF books. So...yeah...I think she's seen what happens to King's Landing, and I think the flowers/ash dichotomy is correct. I wouldn't worry about GRRM not finishing the series. Winds is likely to drop soon, based on GRRM's various interviews and notablog posts. Sadly, I don't think he'll get to finish Dream of Spring, but he's got copious notes, two people who he says are more familiar with his world than he himself, and based on his success...if the last book has to be written by somebody other than him, it'll likely be the absolute best person still living.

@@Ring3R I also felt that events & statements made in this episode foreshadowed Danys final actions. Esp when the woman Aemond sought out for comfort warned him that when princes become angry the small folk suffer. To me Dany finally lost it and burned ALL of Kings Landing and not just the Red Keep when she could no longer contain her grief over losing Jora, Myssendea and her second dragon and no longer felt supported by Jon. While it was a shock to me that Dany turned so drastically at the end, in hindsight the clues were there.

Well As far as Arryk knows Rhanerya did order the murder of a small child, plus she took his brother , old lord commander, and did bear bastards. Yeah killing her would end the war with his limited knowledge and it feels just with the previous reasoning. Rhanerya did not live at the red keep when the twins joined they know very little of her actual nature just what is said in Alicent’s court. It’s only Erryk’s observation of how team green handles Viserys death that convinces him to be loyal to Rhanerya.

Watching this episode, so many things from season 1 came back to mind. Alicent and Otto wanted Aegon on the throne so badly out of ambition and hate and they're surprised at the product of that. A big theme of season 1 was bad decisions and their unwanted consequences. It seemed like they've come face to face with the real consequences. It's hard not to feel bad for the two of them because things have turned so awful, but Alicent has learned nothing and Otto worked hard to set things in motion that led to this. Rhys Ifans did a fantastic job of conveying everything that must've been going thrive Otto's mind this episode.

Agree about Daemon. I’m team black but it is not cut and dried. Alicent really did do everything right. Was faithful, had the first born sons, cared for her dying husband, was a good mother, daughter, wife. Generally tried to be a good person. What have we got on the black side, cray cray, impetuousness, no self control yada yada yada. I think if Aegon wasn’t portrayed as so weak, vile and rapey and the Hightowers so schemey there’d probably be a more even split between the black and green fandoms.

I'm team black, Daemon isn't a good person, but god damn I love watching him. Really Rhaenyra, Jacaerys, Corlys, Rhaenys, and Baela seem like good decent people. Aegon, Otto, Larys, and Cole are shit people. Alicent and Helaena seem decent. Unsure about Aemond I'd just rather Rhaenyra sat the throne than the rapist Aegon.
@J_ads2000

@@carpediem6431 Otto is a leach that started this by asking Viserys to name Rhaenyra as the heir, Aegon is a drunken rapist in the show and book (those serving maids weren’t consenting), Aemond is a psychopath who acts robotic and Helaena is innocent and just not built to be a queen. Alicent in the show is more sympathetic yet she drags herself down with her self righteousness, they entered the game knowing Rhaenyra was named heir. Otto and Alicent both entered this game knowing full well that Aegon will be a threat to Rhaenyra. She was alive and existing way before their shenanigans. Don’t give me “Rhaenyra is a threat to your children”. They knowingly had these kids and are now pretending like they’re scared for them when they did this. Nobody forced them into the royal line.

@@carpediem6431 What it really comes down to is who ends up on the throne. Most fans know Rhaenyra and Daemon leads to Dany and Jon. Naturally they get more support because of that fact. Plus the fact that who likes the Hightowers? Team green brand themselves as the new Targaryens yet people tend to prefer the pure bred Targs like Daemon and Rhaenyra (yes she has bastards but they die and the audience knows this).
@SaneMillennial
@SaneMillennial Месяц назад
@@carpediem6431 Alicent was NOT a good mother, which is displayed clearly in this episode b/c none of her kids can get comfort from her and Aemond seeks it w/the older brothel prostitute who he clearly lost his virginity to years ago as hinted at in dialogue they had last season when looking for Aegon. Alicent treats her kids like pawns just like Otto treated her and her whole misunderstanding of Viserys' last words was dumb too and right after she made up w/Rhaenyra. She should've known better than her father but instead of comforting Aegon when he's crying alone, she goes and seeks comfort in Ser Christine Cole while he breaks his vows some more (granted she slaps him first but they still end up doing it), showing no sense of justice there. Alicent also showed how she's been a hypocrite this whole time and is only envious of Rhaenyra b/c she was so blatant w/her disregard of the law, while Alicent still breaks the law and probably was screwing Cole back in Season 1 while Viserys was still alive at Laena's funeral when Aemond got his eye cut out by the kids b/c they mention "who was watching the children?" And Cole and Alicent came in together!

I hope that isn't a thing. Its just too far from Fire and Blood. There is 0 indication of that, even from mushroom is just not a thing. If they do that it would just be out of nowhere and it wouldn't make sense since he IS supposed to be half targaryen (from his father) so he can ride Tessarion, just as Aegon and Aemond have their dragons.
