Nice to get a bonus livestream on here this week. And it was great to get the teaser for HotD S2 , nothing mind-blowing or massively revelatory nor did we expect or should it be as a teaser. There were some interesting glimpses. Otto quote about "errors" made in the aftermath of Viserys I' death ; almost comical how lightly he is putting that and very much an Otto-ism of sorts , very much fits the character. I personally thought the most effective glimpses were of Aegon II , had that smug arrogant look that we would expect. And the somewhat oversized / ill-fitting crown ; really adds to the theme of him being a pretender of sorts , undeserved , unprepared and ill-suited to the role. Thought such brief glimpses really captured the character / current situation & perception around him quite well. Interesting teaser overall. Personally just excited we are at the stage of a teaser and knowing S2 a matter of months away in '24. I am curious to see how the shortened season goes , hopefully longer episodes mean less expected compromises and rushing than one might expect with two less episodes. Also, curious to see what we actually get with the big beats in this shortened season. Surely Rook's Rest as probably one of the big events of S2 , possibly near the end of the season but tbd when we get that. I am especially curious if we get the Gullet this season or not ; possibly so but as likely a near or a full episode battle not sure if it fits into a shortened season. Its possible we get it in S2 but look forward to seeing how the big beats shake out , what we get and what is pushed to S3.

When Baella was screaming I think this is Rooks Rest and she sees her grandmother Rhaenys die during the dragon battle .

30:36 I feel like its much too small to be Dreamfyre. Dreamfyre is one of the older dragons around at this point and from the brief glimpses we got of her in season 1, I feel like she should was larger than that. I think Seasmoke is a better guess. Although a scene between Helaena and Rhaenyra after blood and cheese would be very interesting 41:30 I wonder if we'll get a very different reception to that in the show. The people of king's landing will remember what Meleys did at the dragonpit (if they know one dragon from another, which is perhaps doubtful), perhaps some of the smallfolk will see it as Aegon II avenging the dragonpit massacre?

OOOH! 23:12 what if Alys Rivers was able to convince the Targaryen princes that visited Harrenhal to perform executions (or sacrifices) in front of the castle heart tree! Maybe not that important (at all😅), but those sigils visible in this shot? That's House Darklyn! This is a perfect example of how much dedication we can expect from this production crew! They are even making sure to use Houses that will have been killed off by the era of GoT! I hope we see a bunch of Reyne and Tarbeck retainers marching to the God's Eye with Lord Lefford and getting trampled into the reeds.

I missed most of the livestream, but I noticed on the trailer that Alicent said (paraphrasing from memory)" .... people will die....and the victor will take the throne". Alicent knows deep down that Aegon II will not win the game of thrones.

32:40 If Addam is Laenor son( Laenor said in season 1, he tried to be with women). The claim of Seasmoke will not be so weird. After all in the book joffrey rode Syrax during the storming of the dragonpit. And Seasmoke is by himself for many years at this point

You can tell how starved of new content we have been in recent years when this is one of the shorter trailer reaction streams out there. It doesnt really reveal much at all, mainly focused on the existing character arcs of some of the major players. Not any hints around any major lore progression from whats in the books, but hope they do build on the prophecy and really flesh out the Stark pact giving some more insights into GRMMS grander narratives. just adding a bit of depth and a few tweeks to the books will be watchable but hoping for more

What do you all think about the dragon confrontation in S1 with the two sons? Imo it was completely one sided. Was more a bullying thing than a battle. One thing I learned reading FaB is that even a few years of extra growing time makes all the difference in dragon vs. dragon combat. The s1 thing was more like a Karelian bear dog vs a lakeland Terrier

There’s a freaking dragon egg in Winterfell and Game of Thrones should’ve just waited and they could’ve used that for the last battle but they screwed up season eight instead. Very random. But I’m stoked for this and love this universe 😝❤️

When the dragon's facing off I wonder if it is Laneor returning. That was my first thought when I saw it. However, I can't tell if the dragon has seasmokes "beard" going on hahaha.

Oh, you know what? I was trying to reason whether or not it was Vhagar (obviously not because of the size) because I thought the neck looked like it has the fleshy wattle that Vhagar has. Perhaps that's the "beard" lol, because the overall body language in the scene would definitely fit with Laenor returning and he and Rhaenyra being unsure what to expect from each other.

I wonder if they’ll get to the taking kings landing in 8 episodes. Seems like there’s a lot that needs to happen. The issue is battle of the gullet is supposed to happen before that and I know there were discussions of that battle was too grand and they had to move it to season three. I suppose they could move the battle in the timeline…

I suppose they could but I’ll explain why I think it’s a bad idea below the spoiler warning *SPOILER BELOW, STOP SCROLLING* Rhaenyra losing her two eldest sons is imperative to her character development in terms of her outlook towards the Greens and the war as a whole. She becomes ruthless and hate-filled, which obviously influences her decision making and story direction. Taking Kings Landing is one of the key highs and lows in the roller coaster of her character arc. You can’t have one pivotal moment without the necessary trauma/influence of the prior pivotal moment.

I strongly believe they won't alter the timeline of the story just to fit an entertainment demand. Plot points leading from Rook's Rest through the taking of KL are crucial to thematic development. This production team is honoring the source material and trusting their audience way more than GoT., so I highly expect them to keep the important moments where they are.

I definitely hope you are both right and agree it would not be good if they changed it. I wonder where this season would end though. I don’t think they will get to takin😢of KL and I’m fairly certain that I read or saw somewhere that battle of the gullet was moved to season 3 sometime around when they announced the season would have only 8 episodes.

Four seasons sounds to me like they're planning on doing the regency. I could see them covering the war in the second and third season. And then covering the regency in season 4.

At the end of the screenshots I think the person is Nettles. The shape of the dragon's tail is not even similar to the shape of Seasmoke's tail. They seem to be 2 different dragons.

plus its very much a Reach thing , quite often the Tyrells are neutral or at most feign allegiance and go through the motions only to switch as it suits them. Hightowers often done the same ; even in the text in this era from the actual House HT they didn't give 1000% support in this conflict even with certain House members directly involved. Typical HT fashion they held some back / did not overcommit.
