Welcome back for another Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon video. This is my review and breakdown for House of the Dragon Season 1 Episode 2, The Rogue Prince. In this episode, we move one step closer to House Targaryen's downfall, during the Dance of the Dragons. House of the Dragon Season 1 Episode 2 features King Viserys I Targaryen announcing he will marry Alicent Hightower. This leaves Rhaenyra Targaryen in doubt of her position as her father's heir for the Iron Throne. Daemon Targaryen steals a dragon egg for his mistress, and fiance, Mysaria, who also happens to be carrying his child. Ser Otto Hightower arrives on Dragonstone to retrieve the dragon egg. Rhaenyra Targaryen shows up on her dragon, Syrax, to avoid any bloodshed. Then, at the end of this episode, we see Lord Corlys Velaryon, aka the Sea Snake, and Daemon Targaryen, aka The Rogue Prince, join forces to take down the Crabfeeder at the Step Stones. Let me know what you thought about this episode. Thanks for watching!

This was exactly what I expected from the second episode. I really cannot understand why some people would expect a shocking thing to happen in episode 2. In addition to what I expected, I was very very pleasantly surprised by many aspects of this episode. "I will speak of my brother as I wish. You, will not." That line speaks volumes about how Daemon is perceived, and what how he truly is. Daemon, my favorite Targaryen!

Dude, for those of us that haven’t read the books and don’t have time for hours long videos on lore and theories, marrying his daughter’s friend was shocking and disgusting. He wants to remarry to have an heir? How about a 26 year old? That’s 10 years of good fertility and a handful extra until she’s 41. His previous wife looked like she had a late in life pregnancy. Why be so gross all of the time? FFS, age her up 7-10 years because now I can’t stand this king.

It was but in past seasons of Game of Thrones, they would have aged up the characters and showed gratuitous dialogue and nudity 😖 I am glad the showrunners have spared us from that. The scenes show Laena and Alicent's discomfort at being pawns in the game. It shows the relationships from their point of view, rather than from the men's. As it should be in my opinion.

I think it all depends on how long this show goes on. It’s already been renewed for season 2. Just think back about how slowly GOT started. Basically nothing of note happened in the first few episodes except for the short introduction of one of the White Walkers and Bran’s fall. Way more story has already been told in just 2 episodes of House of the Dragon. After the first 2 episodes of GOT we had no idea what was going on. After the first 2 episodes of House of the Dragon we already pretty much know where everything is going. Now it’s just a matter of getting there. By the way, I’m loving it.

I wonder if littlefinger has some spiritual connection with Otto Hightower. The man is cunning AF. How he outplayed Corlys Velaryon in getting his daughter married to the king rather than Corlys'. Corlys played his card straight at the king not knowing Otto was playing his card all the time behind scenes without the king even knowing it! It allowed Alicent to get intimate without anyone getting a whisper. And when the moment arrives, bam, I am gonna marry Alicent! Also the age played a big role. Laena is a sweet innocent 12 year old (could see Viserys was really uncomfortable) whereas Alicent I presume is atleast 18 in this show. It's not always about dragons, fire and action. Sometimes we must also enjoy the power politics of the show.

This episode validated my suspicion from episode 1 that the King is being poisoned by the blades of the Iron Throne. Someone is putting poison on the blades (Otto & the maesters IMO). In episode 1 we saw a festering wound on the King's back, that he said was from a cut on the throne. Now...in episode 2, we see him with a badly infected finger. That's the same finger that the King cut on the throne near the end of episode 1 when he disinherited Daemon. This is not a coincidence. I kept hearing people tell me that it was cancer and it was the throne rejecting him....but that doesn't cause wounds to fester and flesh to rot. Its a slow working poison, IMO used not to kill the King quickly but rather to accelerate the process of getting a new heir. I have other suspicions of the Maesters as to why the King's children keep dying so young as well....

@@mohabdul1 no, its being poisoned on a regular basis i think. I believe the Maesters are working with Otto Hightower. Both are from Oldtown. I believe they are aligned. I believe the Hightowers want their bloodlines tied with royalty, so they can have greater influence. I believe the Maesters fear another Targaryen king like Maegor, so they have been killing off his children. They won't do so if the king has children with the Hightower girl though. I think a major issue with Targs is that there is too much inbreeding. The King marrying a Hightower is diluting the bloodlines, which is actually better, not worse as the Targaryens seem to think.

This is the first time we are actually watching a King rule in GoT. A king who cares about the realm and is mature enough to take decisions accordingly. Stannis had he ascended the throne could have done this.

My favorite scene was the Otto, Maester, Viserys scene. They played good cop bad cop so well. The Daemon Corlys scene is exactly how I imagined it in the books as well

Great video @talkingthrones ! This is the only channel that has made quality recaps immediately after the airing of the episodes. Everyone else has shitty podcasts that are poorly done .. cough* cough* alt shift .. Thanks for being legitimately a fan! And not just chasing clout

Matt, the guy playing Daemon…..he could not look or act any better for this part. He’s really doing a great job of portraying Prince Daemon. Looks, attitudes, mannerisms, all on point.

I loved this episode... fantastic character development. But you skipped over that awesome opening sequence which was the Targaryen family tree. It should progress or fracture as the show progresses! I had to applaud the new opening!

Love your content and subscribed! I used to watch your videos all the time in the build up to this show and I’m a bit upset it’s harder to find you now that all these bandwagon channels have blow up covering the show. Definitely wanna give your channel as much love as possible! You do great! Well deserved sub.

My favorite part of the GOT series was always the power politics and outmaneuvering of each other. I love how Otto played the long game with his daughter to ensure he picked her as his next queen. That's some Little Finger level cunning right there!

Agree with everything you said. First when the intro came on I had goosebumps. WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE!!!! I really can't wait to see how the action moves. One thing that was missing on this episode was perhaps a bit of spilled blood. Also, it seems like that Sir Christian will be someone to watch as well.

I didn't like how foggy dragon stone was , i felt like they used the fog to hide the CGI mistakes , in game of thrones i felt like dragon stone was so real even they filmed in real island, but in hotd i really felt like they were in a set with a green screen behind them ... This my opinion about the look in general the story and the writing is definitely so good

It is to depict that dragonstone is a volcano, that's why dragons thrive well in dragonstone than at king's landing. They may explore it later

Otto Hightower always has a specific motive behind his every action..The only reason he went to Dragonstone alone preventing the King & knowing that Daemon has a dragon there & share a bitter relationship with him specially..because he did not want to resolve the issue b/w the brothers but only to provoke Daemon (by calling Myseria a whore repeatedly on his face) & forced him to declare a war against the throne..which he did during sword face off & as soon as Caraxes came, he calmly ordered his men to draw back because he achieved what he came for..But ultimately everything goes in vain when Rhenyra had shown up & dominated him
