I LOVED this episode. I think what I loved most was A.) Aemond has consistently been a daemon foil, and now he has officially been set apart in my mind. Daemon has always been a ruthless wild card, but his one limitation was his love of his brother. As much as he disagreed with him and would poke at him, he would never harm him. Aemond has NO limitations now. He would kill his brother. B.) Cole I think finally is seeing what he created with Aegon and Aemond and he is losing control. He is responsible to a large degree for what they become. He underestimated dragons and he underestimated Aemond.

Alys Rivers being scottish made me happy as a scot ahah you just don’t hear our accents often on these kinda shows so I was really pleased

Thank you for so much common sense! Everyone keeps saying that the prophecy justifies Rhaenyra's actions when in reality, if anything, it mames her actions worse - a war cannot unite anyone, the realm is weaker and weaker by the day, and she would do much more for uniting of the realm if she gave up her claim and tried to impress upon her half-brother the importance of peace, at least tried to. Maybe that is the grand sacrifice. She keeps saying that her father's stance in succession gives her the moral right to "loose horrors", but she never once asks herself a very obvious quesion - if Viserys knew that his choice would result in dead family members, dead dragons, dead innocents and soldiers, what would he say now? She is being selfish, and the prophecy does not soften that what so ever. None of this justifies the Green coup, obviously. But we're talking about Rhaenyra, not them. They all need to go to Harrenhal. Every single one of them. And drink some potions made by Alys to face their demons - the best therapy Westeros seems to offer! Though jokes aside, I'm now so hyped to see what happens to Aemond there and what Alys's agenda is. Rooke's Rest was phenomenal. It showed SO well how when dragons go to war, no one wins. Both sides have lost massively, with Aemond being the only one who has clearly come out victorious for himself - and the shot of him when he looks down on fallen Melyes and the absolute devastation to all troops, his men and enemies both, with prideful satisfaction just catapulted him into stratosphere of threat. And we needed that to happen. He's terrifying. And seeing Christen feeling this terror when he finds him next to Sunfyre is so satisfying. They all took war to be a game, just like the audience was begging to see cool battles. This episode clarified for everyone - nah, war ain't cool or fun.

Didnt like Aegon much from just the books but the actor is doing a fantastic job at making him feel like a real complex character. Actually felt bad for him this season, he never wanted any of this.

The song of ice and fire in this story is part of the Winds of Winter. My guess is the Targaryen part of it dies with Rhaegar. It has been said throughout a Son of Ice and Fire that Rhaegar was obsessed with the prince that was promised prophesy. Which will probably be the reason Rhaegar marries Lyanna in the first place.

I dont understand why the song of ice & fire must be a secret. I really liked it tho when Viserys tells his daughter about the prophecy. It felt grand and epic but in this ep I didnt get that feeling. It felt a bit flat IMO. Surely Rhanaeyra fighting for her brithright is enough. We didnt need her ham-fisted attempt at justifying her actions. I have seen some ppl question Rhaenys' sacrifice in this ep. They are confused why she doesnt turn and flee from Vhagar. To me its very clear. She isnt going to be humiliated by Aemond. She's a warrior, she volunteered for this mission and she will see it through or die trying. RIP The Red Queen Meleys !!

i also don’t mind the prophecy justification. i understand the use of it, i just think it’s getting a little repetitive? but that might also be bc we just heard it last episode. i think the problem for me personally is that I cannot guess the direction of her arc moving into the second half of this season.

I have to say, for book readers that have a lot of info and clues about the magic of the trees, the different deities, and tons of theories about what green seers can and can’t do and their motives and possible purposes, I bet the entire Harrenhold scenes must be existing, and I think the scenes are absolutely well shot and acted. Having said that, for non book readers, whom will miss many of the possible clues, these scenes are just mostly confusing and frustrating. We want Daemon to help the blacks get some ground, even for a little bit. 😢

Well, a good reason to fight for the throne is also to stay alive. While Rhaenyra, if not usurped probably wouldn’t have hurt her half brothers, now that they have taken the throne, if she wants to live she has to win the war.

Hopefully Myseria as Mistress of Whispers will step up her game. Seems like at least one of her network would've known One Eye and his aircraft carrier sized Meemaw had left the landing. ed/Varys and/or Littlefinger woulda been ON it.

Speaking of people coming up with justifications, enters Otto, when he claims that staging his coup is for the betterment of the Kingdom, when in reality is just for him to keep power.

I do not know the book, so this thought might be a SPOILER. Anyone think Miss Rivers is feeding Damon hallucinogens? I'm sure the place has big bad curses on it so maybe I'm wrong. Keep up the great work Liene, your content and this show are an oasis in the empire of dust right now. Thanks for a great drink of water.

Outstanding episode. it had everything, epic battle, surprising betrayal, and solid send off to a amazing character. I feel that Daemon should be the king, not Rhaenyra. It feels as if Daemon has prepared for this war for decades, only for him to be relegate to the sidelines. It as if Rhaenyra taking a moment from him. Daemon would have seen the Rook Rest bait. it doesn't help that her council is starting to turn against her and I can’t really blame them. Rhaenyra reign began by sending child to negotiate alliance with the storm lord. Sneaking into King's landing to speak with queen's mother in a ludicrous attempt to stop the war. She gets baited by her teenage brother half her age. People say that Ageon should not be king but neither should Rhaenyra. She has been too slow to act. It feels as if we are missing the point in this conflict. It is not about two rulers fighting for their claims. This war is the result of two people both unworthy of the throne.The end result of the Targaryen dynasty growing too big, too soon while not establishing succession laws ended up being their undoing.

My only complaint is that there was no Helaena. Other than that, this episode was stellar.

That was a damn solid episode

Loved it, yup - Daemon the greenseer is awesome, HBO is just the best at this, to the degree that it should be illegal for any other studio to have Fantasty rights. At all. If i had a nitpick it would be more of the battle tbh and less lead up talking but, I am a man so, that's hardly surprising.

We don’t like “The Song of Ice and Fire” because it’s cheesy, and shameless fan service to justify the pointless plot twist of Arya anticlimactically defeating the Night King.
