The whole 2nd episode is so good. Im a little annoyed with the unrealistic coming and going in kings landing but i feel like it’s not too big of an issue, Definitely not GOT season 7-8 bad.
@@LordFleaBottom you seem to be very knowledgeable, so you are probably aware of this and are just using the numbers to clarify which aegons and which viserys you are talking about, Rhaenyras kid Aegon is "Aegon the younger" because people only gain the title of the second, third, fourth etc when they become king or queen, so alicents kid is aegon the 2nd but rhaenyras kid is not aegon the 3rd
Rhaenyra during the sowing scene was really creepy. Looking on at the fire, blood and screaming with fascination. Reminds me of Aerys II and even Daenerys. She even had guards stationed to prevent the seeds from leaving. Her own self importance is getting to her head. In the behind the episode, they compared Rhaenyra’s speech to the Dragonseeds to that of a cult leader: she tells them what they want to hear so she can use them for her purpose.
I think the dragon selecting could have better if they would have had another character built up to get one, and they just get toasted. Instead we got 2 supporting characters and 2 dragons available.
I hate how Rhaenyra was able to sneak 40 dragon-seeds out of kingslanding when Aemond closed the gates. I swear anyone can get in and out of kingslanding.
I like Jace confronting Rhaenyra on her impulsivity, ruining his life and his claim. I'm glad Jace was the one to do it. Also, House Celtigar Mentioned!™
Jace was totally projecting his insecurities onto the whole situation. I was yelling at the screen " pull your big boy pants up and grow up!" Jace is one of my faves. guess that's why I didn't like that scene.
@@heavysetmedia1904 He wasn't just projecting - Rhaenyra is weakening her son's claim and handing out incredibly destructive beasts to people she doesn't know or trust, potentially planting the seeds for another civil war. The dragon seeds could deflect, disobey orders or make their own stake for the throne as dude's with big ass dragons and silver-hair (compared to the brown-haired Jace).
@@andilezulu292 I feel for him I do. it sucks that Rhaenyra has no good options left. it feels like she has no option but to worry about the fallout after. I can imagine her saying "lets cross that bridge when we get there." its too bad she has an immediate need for riders, cause Jace will be dead if she doesn't reclaim the throne. such a dilemma.
I don’t wanna be a dick but does Dan get the difference between bastards and non Targaryens? Jace’s plan was to basically use the children of Targaryen daughters, people who are legitimate royals but not of the Targaryen name. Mysaria says to just use any bastard that got fucked by a Targaryen or other Dragonseed’s. Jace’s claim relies on the fact that people thought only true born (being of wedlock) Targaryen blood lines can claim dragons, but if any old common bastard with a hint of blood can claim them, why should the royal bastard deserve the throne over a non royal one when they both have dragons now? I get what he’s saying but I do feel like the show has made it clear on these issues being similar yet different.
You guys have quickly become my favorite HOTD pod. All the others I used to love and listen too like Grey area, Red team, alt swift x etc have all been bought out by the show and refuse to criticize it. It deserves criticism. The writing isn’t that good. They don’t properly develop these characters nor do I have a lot of feelings when they die off. It doesn’t hurt. Also taking away all of the evil decisions the book characters make and turning them into “accidents” is so frustrating. Rhaenyra and Allicent have no teeth anymore. Such a disappointment
Nah i think you read that entire scene with Daemon wrong. The look and pause on his face before making that decision “do i really have to do this” and then doing it to gain the riverlords respect gave Daemon a little insight on how it would feel like to be king. The cutaway to his brother’s hallucination was placed there for his brother to be like “You see, now do you still want to he king?” Even though he was handing him the crown it was meant for Daemon to ask himself again if he really wants crown which i believed he declined.
The impact of the Daemon scene isn’t that he cared about Blackwood. And “the politics and how much being king sucks” is literally what that Tully and the nobles scene was about. Daemon always assumed that once he was king, he’d be able to do whatever he wants. But so far he almost exclusively having to do things he doesn’t want to do. He’s learning that as King, you have to serve your vassals as much as they serve you. He’s really having to comprise his entitled nature to get want he needs, to the point where he’s outmaneuvered by a child. He’s like a boring Vegeta…
Yeah I don't think he cared about the guy so much as his own image in front of everyone, because they made it very clear they know who was behind the pillaging and he can't run from it or he loses an army. Definitely my favorite part of this season, showing that the vassals only need him if he offers protection from threats, not if he is the threat.
I think they hate everyone at this point lol. I was hoping they'd show Alicent actually changing or losing it after getting fired by literally everyone, so I was really disappointed with what they gave her. Considering there's a lot more interesting things that could have been on screen.
@@tobiwonkanogy2975 Hollywood business? What does that even mean? Bad shows have bad finales good shows have good finales it has nothing to do with Hollywood.
All the dragons have bolts to their neck scales, implanted when they’re young for the reins, then a strap around the shoulders and in front of the tail and then connected around the keel bone. There’s a load of saddle and rein art online about how each dragon saddle is uniquely designed.
Dragonseeds are compelling enough that they could’ve gotten their own series. Following a more traditional heroes journey as these bastards get called to service from their mundane lives is such a good hook. It could’ve been like fantasy top gun!
Hugh actually said that he was ashamed of his own mother. We know that Saera ended up living in Volantis to run her brothel business, so Hugh could have left her out of shame and went to Westeros, meeting his wife in King’s Landing and settling down there.
They made a few changes that will have big issues in the future. BOOK SPOILERS - Why on earth would Aemond leave KL soon to go to Harranhal knowing how many dragons are on Dragonstone? It would leave KL completely vulnerable. He's cocky and impulsive but not that stupid. If Raena gets Sheepstealer, will Lady Jayne be willing to let her take the dragon and still send troops she promised? The boys taking their dragons and them being too small is a problem in the Gullet. Nettles was the only female dragonseed, and they cut her. They kinda messed up that story mainly because the dragon is not where he is supposed to be.I do feel like they are kinda rudderless. Aemond is firmly in charge on the Greens, but he's a cocky lunatic. At this point Rhaenyra seems to have ditched every advisor except Myseria. Mongrels? Really Jace?? Things I like - Silverwing! Beautiful dragon!! Vermathor is a badass. I fell in love with Seasmoke last episode, but him protecting Addam made me love him more. They seem to have more personality than last season and I'm here for it. Simon Strong, Lord Tully(so sassy! ❤😂), and the Hull brothers are the best new characters this season. I'd love it if they gave Grey Ghost a rider.
I feel like they stretched out the wrong things, and omitted things they shouldn’t have. But omitted those things to give Alicent and Rhaena a scene. Or another Daemon dream scene. When there’s other things we could see. But the dialogue is so hit and miss this season too, I don’t know if I’d want them to expand to more characters. They can’t even be consistent with the ones they have now.
I’d say most dialogue has been pretty good minus Rhaenyra, Mysaria, and Alicent. The problem is centering the show around Alicent and Rhaenyra when they don’t do a whole lot once the dance starts.
I think her going to the woods with one kingsguard is because she was considering her desire to die, so yes its stupid but its a stupid choice her character would realistically make, not bad writing. Also i believe that knight is her sworn sword now so he would have to listen to her unless it is against the order of the king directly I do agree that the rhaena scene was kinda dumb, and that the past three episodes of rhaena scenes couldve been condensed into the same episode in which she claims sheepstealer
The lack of care for how much time is passing is getting to me real bad now. Aegon is just magically healed overnight. We saw him last episode as he had just became conscious for the first time, still had charring over his body, and his leg was still in need of elevated support. In the same episode,we see Alicent get slashed on her arm and escape the riots and it ends with Rhaenyra going to meet Seasmoke. Now this episode begins with Rhaenyra meeting Adam and Seasmoke on the beach, so we know not much time has passed. Then the next scene is of Alicent just now getting her arm looked at by Orwyle who tells her it will leave a scar, so we know it’s his first treatment of it because a whatever Maester said the same thing to Rhaenyra as he first mended her and this wound is a mirror to hers. Then we see Aegon now fully conscious, completely rid of any charring, and starting to walk again?!?! This is INSANE!!!! Genuinely it feels like the same lack of care that went into Arya surviving the Waif’s stabbing. Except this is 100000x worse because he was burned with dragon fire, fell hundreds of feet, and then had to stay in that condition as he was carted around for presumably days to a week until they got back to kings landing. But other characters die from infected paper cuts?! I’m just not buying it.
At least on Syrax there is a bolt in the neck where the harness is attached, not sure if Vhagar was given one too. That is what I assumed Aemond was pulling on to steer the dragon.
Oh very cool! Had a look at some Reddit and they've put the bolts in on the dragon models too. Cool detail. Can only seem to find reference of them showing them on Syrax and Caraxes but would assume it's on all of them and they're just trained to react.
Also how did Larys not hear about everyone yelling about these free dragons? He really didn’t want to send any assassins over? It’s not like he doesn’t have the power, we’ve seen him deploy his own fleet of them multiple times, what, now he’s just got cold feet? He just allows everything to go on and no one questions him not doing his job?
Dan isn’t nitpicking too much at 7:50, he just misunderstood that point in the show and wasn’t willing to admit that on camera. It’s kinda a running theme and a little unfortunate tbh. Very rare when these conversations ever get him to adjust his perspective.
The Kingswood are so extremely dangerous. Its where Jaime gets knighted because he went out with the ENTIRE Kings Gaurd to defeat a pack of outlaws. Pickpockets, theives and outlaws make it their home during peace time to harass travelers on the King's Road, imagine the rif raff with the chaos of war. When Alicent went out with ONE man, I thought she was consining them both to death on a whim. Stop depriving your family of protection girl! It's like she thinks they can pull world class swordsmen out of their bums.
You say that 45 white-haired people in King's Landing would be problematic for the king, but to be fair, they don't have dragons. Hope the stupidity of the Alicent scene doesn't ruin the rest of episode as a whole though! Also, if/when Rhaena does claim Sheepstealer, you might get a Daemon/Rhaena father-daughter overdose given her replacing of Nettles. They'll have lots of time together on their frolic through the Riverlands Hunting Aemond
You guys have made some valid points. I think the show’s shot callers are keeping things kinda basic and slightly corny for the basic viewer - like me 🤓.
To be fair, there have been strikes in between the seasons, which has surely affected the writing and pacing massively. I'm sure season 3 will amend this, but we will see.
Jace kinda pisses me off. It was you’re idea for the dragon seeds, you cant have you’re cake and eat it too their Jace. I also dislike alecent like you guys do. She’s been super useless this season, she was better as a political tool. I hated the inside the episode when they said that her in the lake is meant to represent her washing away her sins, nah she’s still a horrible mother and an awful person, just because she takes a swim doesn’t reset her character back to square one
Jace’s idea was for high born relatives that were tracked by the Maester’s/scrolls, not low born side babies…at least in the show. But we can definitely see the hypocrisy, great scene!
Redemption is possible for her character. Alicent can become a better mom and person if thats where they are going. Characters are not forever beholden to their bad deeds and flaws. Be more positive mann
No Jace's idea was for high-born relatives to make claims on dragons, not low-borns. Jace's legitimacy is not solidified because of the bastard rumours and how he looks, but his saving grace was having a dragon as proof of his royalty and Valyrian blood. Giving powerful dragons to people you don't know or trust could plant the seeds for a civil war in the future or even defection and disobedience during the current war. Rhaenyra is making an incredibly risky move - with short term gains but huge potential long-term risks.
@@Meme-jo7uj Damond getting a redemption ark this season makes more sense because that has taken at least 4 episodes for him to be redeemed, that’s why them trying to redeem her without any build up to it makes it seem rushed and lazy to me, she’s the reason why aegon got severely burned, she should have known better then to spur him on after everything that happened to him in a short amount of time and how mentally weak he was after losing his son, losing control over the small council. See what I mean. She can’t be redeemed that easily in The second to last episode, it is as I said. Rushed and lazy
@@OwenGee22 it's entirely possible I'm blind but there's 2 at most! One time he jerks slightly but even in slowmo it's hard to tell if he's dodging or just jerking cause new rider. And there's ONE that flies nowhere close when Aemond mounts the horse but I'm watching Aemond look sick as fuck not the background haha
@@burgunbeerd is it though? If the writing was really that good, you wouldn’t be saying that nothing happened with each character week to week. Are you really telling me that the flowery dialogue is tricking you into thinking that there’s no need for actual plot?
