Not quite. The Velayrons are also of Valyrian descent, so it's not like just any random person claimed Seasmoke. You still need the blood of the dragons to be a dragonrider, but yes riding dragons is not exclusive to the Targaryen family.

@@Feanor97 For sure. I was just alluding to Seasmoke chasing Adam. Claiming a dragon isn’t about the rider per se. Also another ex is in season 1 both Luke’s dragon Arrax and Aemond’s dragons didn’t listen to them. And this is coming from Viserys who rode Balerion the biggest dragon in Westeros history. Dragons will never be fully tamed and fully mastered

I think that visual of Rhanerya’s food supply drop coming in the dead of night was my favorite visual of the episode but i also really liked all the seasmoke stuff. he’s my favorite dragon and they didn’t really highlight him in season 1. but i will say i think we need to wrap up Harrenhaal POST HASTE

The Battle at the Gullet is definitely not going to happen this season. The show already said they can only afford 2 huge scenes. One of them is the Battle At Rook’s Rest and the other is likely the “Sowing of The Dragonseeds”. The Gullet will be the opening for Season 3 and the Fall of King’s Landing will likely be the finale for that season.

The Rhaenyra/Mysaria thing, I can take or leave. I don’t have strong feelings on it one way or the other. Great episode overall. Love the scene with Larys/Aegon. Season 1 was also heavily criticized for pacing on account of the time jumps. Comes with the territory when you’re adapting lore instead an actual series. Frankly I would have complained if they shoehorned in battles just for the sake of it. I was worried with the first 4 episodes that they were going to try and cram an action scene into every episode. I’m glad to see we can still get dramatic, character driven episodes and I applaud their restraint as filmmakers. I feel season 2 is significantly better than season 1

For future reference Grace, as someone who's not a book reader, when you put "spoilers" in the title are you referring to spoilers just for the episode you're reviewing, or do you mean for the rest of the season? I ask because I feel like it's not made very clear and that type of clarity could've saved me from having the rest of the season spoiled for me within the first 2 minutes of this video. Just something to keep in mind for those of us who like watching things play out a little bit. It would be much appreciated 😊

There's no character nearly as charismatic as Tyrion, Eddard or as hated as Geoffrey. They didn't have battles, but the scenes were stressful. Remember Sansa's wolf? A lot of things happened in GoT. The last three episodes have more at a sloth's pace. Daemon was my favorite character, now he's nothing but a shell of what he was, and his wife is cheating on him, what a b*tch, she also was one of my favorites, how am I supposed to care for her when she's a cheater.

Most conservatives wont care about the relationship. The show is not lecturing to its audience at a level of a junior high student. The story comes first here. It just adds a little complexity to movtives not in the source material. Maybe they will swap notes on their relationship with Daemon 😂

GoT had its slow moments as well, but we had the Starks, Tyrion, and Daenerys from the very beginning to root for. These kinds of likable characters made otherwise slower moments more entertaining, or at least more tolerable to sit through. This is something that HotD lacks, which may also contribute to the pacing feeling much slower. Also, we’re not doing a five-year time jump every other episode like in the first season.

Stuff happened, but I was bored. Not much else to say. Funny that the critic of the Acolyte in terms of pacing is starting to seep into other shows this summer. Last episode of the Boys was so underwhelming, and I'm just waiting for something interesting to happen here in house of the dragon. The queens having fish thrown at them is not peek tv.

Genuinely the most disappointing year for TV in a long time, I really never loved anything so far. So far Boys 6.5, HotD 6/10, Bear 4/10, Acolyte 3/10. I couldn't get into Baby Reindeer and I have to remind myself X-Men 97 came out this year which is 9/10. Edit: Night Country 7.2/10

Grace, apparently the Gullet was pushed to season 3 for budgetary reasons. BUT, according to several rumors, I wouldn’t rule out that the Fall of Kings Landing isn‘t the finale this season. It will apparently be a very abrupt change of pace, so we have to see if that will work out at the end… Also the Rhaena scenes prove that Nettles indeed has been cut unfortunately

This show is a far cry from GOT, if you need Dragon's to keep people interested then you might as well give it up. Some of the best scenes of the first show took place in small rooms with just two people. Heck the first season had next to no magic in it, and only revealed the show's magical nature at the end , leaving it a mystery throughout the whole season.

I am begging grace to take literally 3 seconds to look into what the book (singular) actually is and isn’t. It is NOT a narrative story, it is written as a history book , compiled by a maester with varying SOURCES. The validity of said sources is constantly called into question in the book itself - Of COURSE it wouldn’t necessarily cover/mention every single private moment of every single character, much less a perfectly accurate retelling of these events from the future (which is when it was ‘written’ in universe. This is super basic stuff.

I think Seasmoke chose Adam to be his rider because it can tell that Adam is the half brother of Laenor. Perhaps once Rhaenyra discovers that Adam is a Valerian bastard she will turn to the Targaryen bastards of Kings Landing instead of highborn descendents because their bloodline would be more diluted.

In the book its very implicit that Rhaenyra and Laena Velarion have a romance going on while Laena is still married to Daemon. Its even hinted at that they’re a trouple! Allegedly thats why Rhaenyra and Daemon marry right after Laena’s death

The whole season is being consumed by Daemon's Harrenhal arc. It in itself is uninteresting on top of that it has been gragged for too long.

It will be interesting to see if they "discover" that Addam has some Targaryen blood somehow, whether true or just to keep the Targaryen myth alive. But when that is the big cliffhanger, you know you've got a slow episode.

I always felt Rhaenyra was bisexual, so it felt nice to see that my suspicions were right. I'm cool with the Rahenyra/Mysaria thing, but I think it's more of a casual affair than anything serious.

I don't agree with the pace being to slow concerns.......Game of thrones last seasons were not good because the pace was too fast.... so can we please stop putting pressure on the production like we did for Game of Thrones and just enjoy the show.....for the love of dragons, please

The problem with the last two seasons of GOT was the show runners were announced to do the next Star Wars trilogy and decided it was time to end GOT instead of taking it to its logical conclusion which would’ve taken it about four more seasons which HBO was good with and GRR Martin would’ve worked with them also. I don’t know of any fans who wanted GOT’s pace sped up because it was already fast-paced and skipping over and changing tons of plot in the books from the beginning to get through that story. Fortunately due to Weiss and Benioff’s recklessness and fan backlash of season eight (along with the abysmal failure of most other Disney-Star Wars movies), the next Star Wars trilogy they were assigned to and all other Star Wars movies were put on indefinite hold/canceled.

House of the dragon doesn’t have the strong dialogue that GOT used to have. Because of this, it feels like we are playing a waiting game on dragon battles. Season one was able to counter this with moments. With the cast growing every couple of episodes it helped. We don’t have that now tho. I agree with you. It should have been 10 episodes with three dragon fights.

The kiss came out of nowhere. Alicent and Rhaynera never had a romantic relationship, not in the books and not in the series. Whenever the writers decide to stray away from the original material, they f*ck it up. Edit: also they somehow turned the most interesting character from season one into the one that most people just want to skip his scenes because they can’t stand to watch another hallucination.

I loved the scene with Alicent and Helaena escaping the townsfolk. Such a wake up call for us viewers in the fact that these people essentially have control and power to an extent

My only real issue is the stuff with Daemon is dragging on. I’m okay with the slower pacing and I think we are getting the Fall of Kings Landing this season, which is being telegraphed way more than the battle of the gullet

Just what HotD was missing. Lesbians. I felt like it came out of nowhere but whatever. Daemon going crazy/haunted Harrenhal is terrible. I wanna fast forward every time I see it. It reminds me of Rick Grimes season 3 in Walking Dead, one of the low lights for me.

I don't think there will be anymore big dragon battles this season. I think the final 2 episodes are about gathering forces. The Blacks will get more dragon riders and The Greens will get more armies of men. The season will end showing just how much more fire power each side as amassed, creating excitement for next season where it will be unleashed. I think the budget for dragon battles is a max of 2 per season with room for 2 to 3 additional dragon centric non battle scenes.

This (and last week's) was one of my favorite episodes because I feel like we finally got some much needed conversations. That's what makes it interesting and makes us care for these characters. For the first couple it felt like everyone was just a piece on the board getting moved around while we get the explanations for why at a boring council meeting. We're finally getting to know these characters better and having deeper interactions. This will make us care more about what happens during battles and when someone dies. The Harrenhal stuff is my least favorite, boring and has gone on too long. I never like dream/vision sequence stuff all that much; but the better part of a season for one of the best characters is...yeah, a bit too much.

I feel the riot scene could have been longer, and have the small folk sort of mirror the battle of the bastards scene where Jon is getting crushed to make it really claustrophobic.

Well Grace, people are complaining about this season not having that much action and pace but you know what I miss? That moment when Viserys walks into the court for his daughter Rahenyra in ep 6 probably, that’s the moment which made HOD pretty special for me, I miss that depth in this season, I miss that emotion! They could’ve have done a moment like that with Rhaenys’s death in ep 5 but they just let it go away.
