Happy New Year everyone and welcome back to my channel and to a mini 2023 house reset and refresh.

I'm Katie, I live in the UK with my husband Jon and our 3 children aged 11, 9 and 6. I love photography, videography, generally being creative, and being outside whenever I can. We also love to travel, the last couple of years have obviously put a stop to that a little, but we are hoping to travel lots more in the future. I've been online for nearly 11 years, which is just crazy, and I am really proud of the lovely community I have built up on here and Instagram.

My brother was the same he realised if mum or dad read with him, he didn't have to put as much effort in 😂, but he reads constantly now, has 5 books on the go at any one time. This really helped when he did his GCSEs.

I always struggle in Jan and Feb so find it hard with the pressure to be more motivated/ do more exercise / eat better etc when it's a pretty shitty time of year! Great to see a video from you!

Yeah it’s a hard time of year isn’t it, just a bit meh. I think the no pressure approach is the best thing, just do what makes you happy. I like setting goals and things but equally I normally always break them. 🤣 x

1st of January is traditionally a day where you have a roast dinner with family in the uk. Like a mini Christmas Day.

Try using some elbow grease spray or bartenders secret powder on your chair, I've had a similar stain on a chair and that seemed to do the trick xx

We moved into a new house( that we’ve been renovating for 2 years 🙃) but that has been my BIGGEST goal- organizing. Those are my favorite type of new year videos! I say let’s all forget about the diet and exercise goals and get more into organizing 🤣

Loved watching your organising, maybe use those boxes and storage box in conservatory for board games. We have ours in the room we play them to make us play them more as it always brings us together and we always have a laugh. It takes so long reorganising doesn’t it but so satisfying. Katie I don’t have kids of my own but I do teach grade one and they still LOVE picture story books! I actually take a lot of my old ones from my childhood to school. It’s so sweet to watch them continue to be enjoyed year after year 😊

Thanks for this motivating video. My family and I are starting the year quite laid back. The first of January is my husbands birthday. So on that day there are no big plans besides tidying a bit after news years eve and meeting more family members for a coffee.

I did some decluttering yesterday (mainly children's toys after Christmas lol) and feel so much better 😀 You should keep the book for any future grandchildren - seems something our parents did to keep stuff from our childhoods for our kids to play with so we should do the same xx

I think boys much prefer to be read to. I was going to get rid of all our books like that as Deacon is nearly 10. But he loves them. So I’ve kept about 20 of our favourites and I’ve decided I will never get rid of those as keeping them for hopeful grandchildren one day xx

Hi Katie , my youngest son is nearly 6 and still has all the picture books . My eldest son I’m sure was Around 7 when he started son chapter type books. We have a signed copy of the Pamela butchard book she’s fairly local to us and did a reading at Waterstones a few years ago. She was really lovely x

Love a declutter/organisational video to motivate me. My son has a tall narrow Billy bookcase which footprint is about A4 but it holds a lot. I’d totally forgot I was going to get a door and they were out of stock. Must look again x

Happy New Year! Loved the video and would to see more organizational ones, restoring the plant collection and could you and Louise go out shopping please!! LOL. You got a lot done! I normally take the tree down January 2nd but this year, my son ( who has his own apt) got COVID on the Wednesday before the holiday..and...our oven broke!! They delivered one on the 30th- but the wrong one, a tiny little thing- so we are waiting on that and for my son to have a bit of a second Xmas. So I cleared up all the festive things except the tree which we will not turn on till we arrange a day he can come..and have an oven for a proper Christmas meal.Oh, and the stockings are still up.We are a small family of four, but we did have a Christmas of sorts but it was not the same with no son or traditional meal!. I don't like leaving things up too long because I feel sad and also I feel it prevents you from jumping into the new year.Glad the sofa did not fall on top of you when you were cleaning!

Katie, do your windows have tint on the outside to stop the neighbors seeing in, but look clear for the inside looking out? The open look makes the room so much more spacious than just a window and nice that you can see your whole garden. Happy New Year to you all!

They don't unfortunately, our neighbours can see in. But to be honest it doesn't bother us really, both of our back neighbours are couples without kids and their bedrooms must be at the front of their homes as the lights are never on, I've never seen anyone in any of the rooms, and you can't see over the fence if you are on the ground floor. I never feel exposed, I think I have just got used to it although I know some people might not like it. Happy New Year to you too, lots of love! x

A pink material or ribbon trim twould cover the rust marks , be quicker and cheaper then covering the whole chair just need some upholstery pins x

Katie, quick question about your dining table and chairs, we’re in the middle of a full house renovation (re_buildmarina) and are getting to the stage of thinking about what sort of dining table set we’d like. Can I ask where you got yours? And are you happy with them? Good & bad points etc xxx

We got our dining room table from John Lewis and the chairs were from Cult Furniture but both a few years ago now, the chairs are probably about 8 years old. I am sure the chairs will still be available as they are sold everywhere now. I really like them, have no issues with them at all, the chairs are still like new and the table is a great quality too. x

What made you decide to do a garden room rather than an extension? Considering what I want to do at the back

Our garden is quite small and we didn't feel like we wanted to take any more space from it. Plus there was an existing conservatory there so we didn't need to pay for building regs etc as it is classed as a warm roof conservatory and we also used the same footprint pretty much. It worked out a lot cheaper for us to go down the conservatory route. A couple of years later we renovated our kitchen and converted our garage which meant we took internal space rather than building outwards for space if that makes sense.

My son is the same age as wren they are a month apart :) and he very much still loves picture books but won’t read independently yet 😊my 9 year old daughter reads so many books can’t keep up with her haha xx

Definitely rust marks on that chair, it’ll be where the upholstery nails attach the fabric to the frame - so yes, your office is very damp. Problem is - although there are loads of things you can try on rust marks on fabric from lemon juice to white vinegar and bicarbonate - I’m not sure it’ll help here as the nails will just get wet again and may just cause deeper rust marks (you could try the solutions if all you can do is re-upholster?) or you could try a fabric dye, like one you’d use to dye shoes. What a shame
